Thanks guys. This truck has a Mack AI-350 engine. I've always lived front loaders since I was a kid, so yeah, this is like clocking in to have fun for me :-) Front end does pay very well, not so much for DeKalb, because we're government, but the potential is good at a private hauler to bring home 900 or better per week. We however have tons of sick and annual leave, something you won't find at a private hauler so in some ways, it kinda balances out. I just have to be smart about my money. Right now, I have over 1000 hrs of sick leave and I was recently out for about a month with a broken hand. If trucks are your thing, especially these, I say go for it.
Miram Tang most front end drivers avg. 16-20+/an hr. Here at the county I make close to 16/hr but we hv tons of annual/sick leave that the private companies do not offer.
Good job bro! I too am a front loader driver here in Hawaii. Been doing this for over 37 years! Currently driving a 2019 Peterbilt with a Whittke box, with a tag axle, in Waikiki. Have a scout truck who works with me, being a lot of my bins are under buildings, as well as a number of pull outs that I have to push out myself, and a few stabbers here and there.Gotta do what we gotta do! Yessah!
Damn that MACK runs like a beast. Especially when the fan kicks on. You're a boss of an operator by the way. After almost a 20 year run as a truck driver I'm ready to move into refuse collection to end my driving career. But I want to run residential side loaders. That's my favorite garbage truck. Not a big fan of FL and I would never do manual RL. Hahaa. Hope I can get on at Republic Services in Vegas.
Erik Caldwell ours don't. Most guys will have their own personal GPS or use their phone. Waste will train you before letting you go out on your own, still a good idea to have your own GPS though.
Ha ha. You said They train you before sending you out on your own. We have a swing driver going out on Monday to do a route he’s never seen before with no training. He’s done comm. frontload before but has never seen the stops. Gonna be a long week for him.
I drive front end in Toronto..That guys a good driver only thing I noticed is he leaves his forks tilted down a bit when he puts his forks up..should tilt them back all the way when he raises his arm up above the windshield..other then that he's a good driver
J Flo I personally have a Class A, some companies do require it for front loaders, however, most municipalities only ask that you have a Class B to drive them. We have 6speed automatic Allison's in the trucks here.
I personally I'm a 35 year veteran driving my experience tell's me to just chill easy goes it be safe oh plz. Bring in the fork's while driving on the road .and brake gently over the bumps easier on the truck suspension.
I’ve been trying to get my dad to do something like this he’s been slinging trash since 80’ been on a front loader since 92’ republic still won’t give him a new truck
What's the flashing light? That would drive me nuts!! I drive FEL for about a year had a 07 Mack / Mcnelius. There are days I miss it. But went back to driving charter bus.
This is a pretty neat view. I didn't get through the whole video, but what I did was quite enjoyable =] You are quick, in and out like a pro! haha Looks like a lot of your work is pretty close together seeing this video - not a hell of a lot of driving, unless this doesn't show the average area. Also do you always drive with the forks lowered or sometimes folded against the arms? I like where the back-up camera is located.
great job...How do you deal with the noise of dumping the bins and operating the compactor? Besides earplugs Do you sometimes hear the noise in your sleep? Have you accidentally dumped anyone in your truck?
Hey ThaThunderStorm, what's the process like for getting employed as a front loader driver? Is it the type of position that you have to work your way up to/based on Seniority, or is it merely based on your commercial driving experience? I currently have a CDL-A. Thanks :)
Nothing but love for you. I grew up with rear loaders but switched to automated which I personally love. You make front loads look easy like I'd be able to give it a try but I think they are just a little too big for my liking.
Over here in Australia in Canberra I do rear lift recycling and I’m on $37/hr casual plus penalty after 8hrs and double time after 10hrs. Do about 12 hrs a day 5 days a week. Front lift guys are on $31 hr full time plus penalties
I was thinking about getting my cdl just because there are so many things you can do with it for jobs. And I thought about driving a garbage truck like you bro. What kind of cdl class do you need
I got hired on right out of CDL school, but got let go because I could not learn the route fast enough because they used route sheets. Any suggestions?
Sorry to hear that. If a route sheet isn't sequenced correctly, it can greatly slow you down on an unfamiliar route. My advice learn your route as best you can in regards to business names and addresses. It aeems like a lot at first, but it gets easier as you become more familiar with where you are going. Look for a company that is more new driver friendly as well, sounds like a pretty unfair reason to let you go. Most haulers will train you thoroughly on equipment, routes and paperwork before they turn you loose on your own.
It was a small family owned company with a lot of turnover and I could see why. He did not even let me give my former employer a full 2 weeks notice and they were upset about that so that should of been the first red flag. Secondly, he said in the interview that if I did not get it within the first 2 weeks then he did not know what to tell me. I'm thinking, yeah that's really supportive of you! The company was ran by the son and the two parents owned it. I interviewed with Republic and they seemed more thorough with their training which is more like 6 weeks. Hopefully I land something soon. Thank you for your advice brother. God bless.
It’s not easy to get the hang of in just 2 weeks. If you’ve never driven frontload before then I’d say you won’t show signs of being comfortable working the truck until your 4th week.
WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR!?!?!?! on your own driving around town and doing your job! nice vid man, keep up the great work

Thank you kindly :-)
Wow, amazing video big bro! The sound of the Mack taking off was music to my ears! Such a talented front end driver!!!
That engine is beast! Sounds better than my favorite Cummins! WOW!

i love this mack truck keep up the good work
Do those trucks have gps? How do you know your way around if your a new driver?
I have a phone interview with waste management on Monday is why I ask.
Erik Caldwell ours don't. Most guys will have their own personal GPS or use their phone. Waste will train you before letting you go out on your own, still a good idea to have your own GPS though.
Erik Caldwell btw, hope all went well on the interview

I'm about to get an interview for hire next week. I'll have 90 days to train get my CDL. What class CDL is it and is this truck manual or automatic.

I was thinking about getting my cdl just because there are so many things you can do with it for jobs. And I thought about driving a garbage truck like you bro. What kind of cdl class do you need
I greatly apologize for the lateness of my response Nicholas. Most companies just require a class B for straight trucks.
Nik s I am female and I have an a and b endorsement, I drive a garbage truck and love it..
What happens when you gotta use the shitter?
I got hired on right out of CDL school, but got let go because I could not learn the route fast enough because they used route sheets. Any suggestions?

Cool thanks so how noise is the garbage truck and have you checked out trucker josh
The older diesel Macks were pretty loud. Before I left I had a CNG powered Peterbilt, it was a lot quieter. I don't think I have seen his vids.
Ok I think you should and you spelled it wrong video
