Great choice of music and composition, you made that monster wave looking like a quiet, lazy, liquid giant. Impressive. In the same day, in the UK, i was staring at the ocean, in Cornwall, with the impression that the horizon was moving towards me, and it was nothing compared to the power that was unleashed in Portugal and Ireland.
Hi Guys, thanks for your comments! I'm really glad you enjoy my first video, and I can't wait for the next Big Wave season ;) If you guys want to see more photos from that same historic day in Nazaré, just check out my new website www.plmiranda.com ;) enjoy!
The part between 1.45 and 2.05 is the most beautiful part, compared with the music and people. The people standing all relax looking at the waves like there is nothing happend, and then you see the gigantic waves on the background, it looks like a big War, like the world is going downunder and the people standing there and looking and talking all relax. Real nice video greatings from Holland
I was once in Nazare on holiday and was surprised by the difference in waves left and right from the big rock. But this......WOW! Never knew. Thanks for the video Pedro. Optimo!
The great thing about Nazaré is thet it is not some reef far from the cost , people can just go there and watch it unfolding at close distance. I checked your website, and i'm very jealous as a photographer.
Pedro Miranda The noise of these waves must be very impressive and intimidating! seismographs in the area can actually pick up land vibrations caused by these giants
And to know my father use to fish off these waters and to hear his story... The sea is nothing to play with and at the same time so stunning and amazing ... Great video love the mother land...
Nazaré linda praia portuguesa e que eu conheço tão bem! Mas...que medo destas ondas enormes! Como é que alguém consegue enfrentar esta força da natureza?! Admiro a coragem!.... Parabéns Pedro Miranda por este magnífico vídeo!
I had seen a still image of these waves (possibly taken from this video?) and was fascinated by it because it looks the buildings should be washed away. But being a professional photographer myself, I know how perspective and lens focal length can be exploited to compress or expand the appearance of a scene. I knew that that affect had to be possible by using a very long focal length lens for the format of the camera from a far distance but the effect was still fascinating. Then at about 3:40, the lens is zoomed back to reveal that the effect was, indeed, created using the method mentioned above. Thanks for posting this because I remember wishing I could see more of the waves after viewing the still image in fascination. Great stuff!
Of course you are right. But men, this is the only place on the planet that have 100ft (30m) waves without without a natural phenomena helping like a earthquake or tsunamis of any kind. Last week (2020-10-29) was simply the best waves in 10 years, every winter there always waves with more than 90 ft. And sometimes there one wave that can reach 100ft. We call it in Nazaré the BIG MOMMA WAVE. Is this a film technic? ua-cam.com/video/VjkPAe6mVzg/v-deo.html PS: I'm Portuguese and live at 30 minutes by car from there and one thing i can tell you when the wave "breaks" you in that fort/lighthouse fell is in your all body. How strong that waves are.
Waouh.... Congrats Pedro for the vidéo. This shows us how ridiculous we are in front of mother nature. G Mac you are a hero, maybe a little bit crazy, a real hero to ride such source of power. This vidéo is a tribute to you and nature.
Pedro o que dizer??? Fantastico!! eu adoro a nazare! Great place guys fantastic! i advise you all to go and see it for yourselfs!! Nazare should be in anyone list of places to visit before die.
Great video! It's strange to me that some people aren't looking at the wave and seem oblivious to something that's is likely to be a once in s lifetime experience.
Justin Hopkins It's the photography. The camera is incredibly far away, and there is even greater distance between the people and the water. It's kind of like how when you watch sports, you see the audience members as if they are 5 feet away in the background but truly they are hundreds of feet away. It's called a telephoto lens.
when the video goes into a reverse that is so cool to see. the waves are going backwards. my eyes had to really adjust to that one. good music too. powerful waves...super powerful!
When I first edited this clip, I used a different soundtrack ("At war with me - Instrumental" by Zack Hemsey), I've talked with Zack and he said it was ok if not used commercially. But then the video went kind of viral and I've decided to monetise it here at UA-cam and I had to change the soundtrack due to commercial use (ads), still you can find the Original cut with the Zack Hemsey music on vimeo: vimeo.com/86011562
Remarkable photography---Wonderful music. Is this an event that occurs regularly, as in every winter? The power and beauty are overwhelming. Thanks for sharing this.
AMAZING, i dont understand how those people could b so close or how could u build so close to that much POWER! wow! talk about standing beside the ocean makes u feel small! whoever filmed this was very lucky to b there & very thoughful to share it 😊 & i am very very glad of both! THANKS PEDRO pls do not troll me
Hi Chris, thanks a lot for your feedback ;) The big wave season is over, but I promise more next season, if we get lucky enough to get some powerful winter storms in the Atlantic of course ;)
Pedro Miranda Pedro, this place is so far removed from the little slice of Sunshine Coast Australia i call home, i'd even enjoy seeing some footage of an average day here. love ya work Champ.
Wow Pedro!! I follow you on IG and decided to check out your UA-cam. This video is absolutely PERFECTO!! I can't think of words adequate to describe it! Just incredible! I now have to add Nazaré to my bucket list just to see these amazing works of nature!
my god! Is this still a Sport? Death is always on your side, when u are Surfing in nazare. Australia, Hawaii, California, Teahupoo...I always thought there are the best waves of the world...strange Thing, that nazare was detected for the Scene in 2010 first...incredible waves...These are mountains!
Cool video. Loved the reversed waves. The switch to the still of the surfer's drop was nice, but I would have liked to have seen the video of it as well after the stills.
Great footage Pedro"!..I have been there when it was about 20feet..rode the shoulder a few times. Its a steep flat A frame peak that is real tricky.Liam showed its rideable at 50+..is that him gettin towed out again?..Keep going you have good eye.
Impressive work as always, Pedro. Keep it up bro, some of the most amazing pictures and footage I've ever seen and I've seen a lot. Some of those pictures on your Instagram are breathtaking.

Can you fly a drone to the other side of the building and wall? I'd love to see what was happening on that side, without the long lens effect.
Loving the sound track really goes with the waves and also has a very happy emotional vibe to it. Who's the artist as I'd like to here more.👍
Such beauty! Nazare is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. I love the giant waves.🌊🏄♂️💕💕💕
Nazare means “views” in hindi ...this sure fits the description as it has such beautiful views😍😍

Magical!! The waves and the music are perfect. It made me happy to be alive today.
That is the meanest, gnarliest looking surf spot i have ever seen. Incredible!
The undeniable power and beauty of the sea is so incredible.
How majestic. Portugal looks like a beautiful place.
Holy Christ, you wouldn't catch me standing that close! Yikers!!!

The jetski at 2:25 gives this a sense of scale. Fairly intense stuff.
CRAZY MONSTER WAVES!!!!!! What a sight to watch!!!! Terrific video. Wonderful editing and a great musical piece to accompany the video...good job
One brave surfer, at least. Most prefer beaches to rocks, I think. Those waves must have topped 20 meters. Great job, Pedro. Please do a lot more.
you da best let nobody put you down, your always one of the good ones
Just awesome! I'm terrified of the sea water. Even at a distance, but I loved this!

Love the music. Amazing video, except totally not necessary to run the clip backwards towards the end. It makes the film slapstick like.
