      72k miles and 3rd set of pads and rotors. Apparently $350/axle for brake service is just pads and rotors and not slide pins. Found out later those are an extra $140. The 1st brake job lasted 12k miles but was out of warranty. Unfortunately I also needed my brake lines replaced because it was leaking brake fluid.

      Spark plugs cost prob about £60 in total. All you need is a ratchet set unscrew them put new in and screw them again. Mechanics shouldn't change more than £20-30 to do spark plugs

    • @Qicnt6
      @Qicnt6 Рік тому +5

      @@youtubeyoutube-ce5ee you don't understand how to do plugs on this prius then.
      You need to pull the upper splash shield guard, you can't just pull the plugs out.
      I'm not saying it should be 500+, but you are very wrong if you think it should be 20-30$.

    Good thing I went to “ Gasket Master” saves me half the cost but most importantly They know what they’re doing …

But a used motor did fix her issue. It’s not the shops fault they got one that was on borrowed time. That’s on the junkyard which should have some limited warranty on it

    I had the exact same problem, dealership did the exact same thing to me. Had me replace spark plugs, coil packs, fuel injectors, egr cooler, egr valve, and intake manifold. When nothing worked they had me get a new engine. then “forgot” I wanted to keep the old engine and let it “go to the scrap guy”….
    Last month had a rattling coming from front driver side of engine compartment. Took it to a different Toyota dealership who tried to tell me I needed an entire new transmission “minimum $6-7k”. then tried to have me trade it in and just buy a new car. I was able to “UA-cam diagnose” it while it was at the dealership and found it to be the clutch dampener only $1.1k part $2k labor to install.
    Can’t even trust the actual Toyota dealerships anymore. UA-cam mechanics FTW.

      Sounds like you swapped an engine with another bad short block! Toyota dealers are telling customers to change synthetic oil at 10K miles. Changing at 5K would avoid the short block from getting damaged by the piston rings causing gaps for oil to escape.

  • @ronaldoquintos1675
    @ronaldoquintos1675 Рік тому

    Strong diagnostic skill is probably the most important thing a mechanic can have. I own a hybrid shop but I am careful in my diagnostics, and never do guess work and throw parts at a car to see if it fix a problem. A mechanic has to know the nature of s misfire. Things like does it misfire worst at closed loop etc. Is it a random misfire, is the misfire caused by one cylinder. Upon removing a plug does on of the plug look like it’s been cleaned? Obviously caused by coolant making it’s way into the cylinder. Also like you said a misfire after sitting for long periods of time would have had time for coolant to accumulate in the cylinder thus causing misfire but the blue liquid is very useful as well I used them in my shop to check for exhaust in the cooling system. Good job and I praise your honesty which is same policy in my hybrid shop. The difference in me is I’m actually a regualr mechanic like you who just happened to have background in electronic engineering that’s why I fix hybrid and electric car as well, but those guys have no business working on hybrid if they are that poor in diagnostic because hybrid cars are some of the most difficult to diagnose. An example is a no start condition in a hybrid car would have a regular mechanic fooled the car has a stalling problem. They might say it start runs for 15 seconds and stall when in fact the hybrid battery is actually trying to start the car. When an engine is being cranked by a 220 volts hybrid battery pack it sound like it’s idling lol. 😂It keeps cranking it about the same speed as idle for 10-15 seconds and quits if it does not start making it seem like it’s running then stalling.😂

    I went through the same issue with my Prius. They gave me new spark plugs and coils, changed the fuel injectors etc. Still the same problem after spending over $2000. Then they said I had a bad engine which would be $6000 to replace. I was not going that route. So I researched and saw it could be a bad head gasket, which would also be expensive to replace. I discovered by putting a gasket sealer in the coolant will solve the problem. So I am now kicking myself that it would have only cost me only $50 dollars to fix in the 1st place.

    It's crazy how today so many new cars go through headgaskets like brakes.

    Brother I just experience a shaking on my engine this morning after a vacation and the check engine came on. Have a misfire on cylinder one according to autozone scanner. The car was a little low on oil so I added some and it started to run smoothly. I will keep an eye on my coolant levels. If I have to replace. Y gasket, what will it cost me? Thank you.

    My coolant disappears from coolant reservoir after long 2-4 hour drive, but is fine for short trips around town. Is this headgasket related. Gen3 140k miles.

    Have you figured out why the gasket fails and how it can be avoided in the future? All of these gasket changes on 1.8 hybrids since MY 2010 resolve the issue for a short time. The problem is in the block and if you do not grind the surface of the block (not the head, but the block), then all your repairs are the same deception of the client as the replacement of spark plugs and coils.

    They’re charging my daughter a lot of money she doesn’t have. She’s on the verge of living in her car. They want to charge her $500 just to do a test to see what’s wrong. Where are you. I want her to tak her 2012 Prius V to you.

    This is a known problem.. My question is what's going to stop the new replacement head gasket from failing 75,000 to 100000 miles down the road?

      Maintain the EGR system and clean out the EGR ports in the intake manifold. A faulty EGR system (stuck open) will send too much exhaust gas back into the intake manifold for re-circulation. That will mess up the air/fuel mixture and will blow the head gasket. If you've never done the EGR system and manifold, do it now. Then do it ever 30k miles or so as a part of regular maintenance.

    I just purchased a 2012 ct200h 2 weeks ago with 150k miles I drove it for approximately 1000 miles and I started noticing that exact shaking from the video. They told me it could be bad spark plugs spark plugs and had those changed they also mentioned the same thing that it can be bad coils but they confirmed that it wasn't neither after they replaced the plugs and tested the coils. The mechanic said he's going to try to change out the cylinder number 2 because it's still showing up on his OBD scanner. As of now I have not been losing coolant. Am I being scammed? Is it going to be the head gasket and it's just in the initial stages of breaking down ?? Can someone please help I would truly appreciate it
