Thanks you for appreciating our country. I really think the way we come together as a people in support of institutions like our life-saving clubs , sporting clubs and volunteer firies is something I really cherish about my homeland. Even having a democracy sausage to support the local school when one goes to vote. I'm glad you noticed it too.
"Ute" is an abbreviation of utility vehicle - one which could be used by a tradesman (and they were only men then) through the week, but still be able to take the family to the beach, go camping, do the shopping on the weekend.

Glad you enjoyed Australia so much. A wonderful place that most people don't go in Australia is Perth. I can understand why they don't since it is so far away from all the other major cities in the east, but I absolutely loved it there. Nice people. Interesting and accurate observations. Come back ☺. A New Yorker visited me at Chapel Hill in Brisbane. He was absolutely astonished by the abundant bird life and diversity as we sat out having lunch the back deck. Some info. Australia is one of the most urbanised countries with about 70%+ of the population in 5 city agglomerations. So it is really populated like an archipelago. Anyway great video guys and so glad you loved our beautiful country…it certainly is a special place ❤
Loved this so much. It was balm to my soul after a friend here got back after 3 months in Oz, saw only Brissie south to Sydney and the Blue Mountains, and hated it - racist, awful politics, etc etc. Also talked as if she now knows more about Oz than I do. Grrr. You guys are my heroes - you know how to have fun!

I think you are both right utes are sedans only with a tray back just like your Camino. They no longer make proper utes since GM and Ford stopped manufacturing cars in Australia a few years ago.. all the light trucks have basically inherited the name. Glad ypu enjoyed your stay we travel the country for at least 4 months every year with our caravan there is a whole lot more for you guys to see including the incredible west coast. Take a road trip in a camper from Esperance in the south all the way up to Kununurra in the Kimberleys then across to Darwin next time that you have at least 3 months to fill in.
Glad you enjoyed our country. But I think you have only scratched the surface of things to see here. Definitely need to come back. Get away from the cities and see the beautiful country areas and towns of NSW, Victoria and Queensland. BTW "ute" is short for utility vehicle. Popular with tradesmen and families to go travelling.
Yep she is right it’s a Toyota hilux Ute , they can be either a tray or single or duel cab Ute but all are a Ute . Also AC/DC originates from Fremantle Western Australia . Their iconic video for long way to the top was filmed Melbourne .
Gr8 hearing travellers perspective on things it's quite interesting. As for the concentration of the population, I would say Australia is similar to Canada , in that it too is a big country with a relatively small population considering its land mass and there too, most of the population is concentrated to a particular area.
Great stuff! Glad you love our country. We’re a pretty relaxed bunch. Funnily enough, a lot of Americans and even British say they would love to come here but haven’t because they think it’s over 100 degrees everywhere all the time, and that they’re going to be killed by venomous snakes or spiders! It’s crazy how these myths perpetuate! Also, the echidna is a monotreme- an egg laying mammal. Echidnas and Platypus are the only egg laying mammals in the world. Hedgehogs on the other hand give birth to live offspring. ❤ 🇦🇺
She's right on the utes, technically an LV or light vehicle. Whether they are a drop side ute or well tray, like a RAM. Trucks are LR, HR, HC or MC. First time seeing one of your videos. What a delightful couple. My son’s a tradie (sparky) and I consider his Toyota hilux a Ute. Not sure if he does. Did you see any panel vans on your travels?
There are a couple of million people living a hundred kilometres or more from the coast. Canberra 400,000, Ballarat, Bendigo, Albury-Wodonga, Blue Mountains all 100,000 or more. Many more 50,000 like Wagga Wagga.

ya can spend 6 months here in tassie alone and still not experience all of it...we moved here from the mainland 23yrs ago and we've seen bugger all lol
There is a BIG difference between what we call, a "UTE", and a "Forbie". A Ute is short for a Utility, it is a single cab sedan with a rear bay or tray. A Forbie is like you said, a Toyota Hilux for example which can be a tradie's work truck or a pleasure vehicle. Just depends on why you bought it. A "ute" is typically a tradie's work vehicle or a private vehicle used to move something from A to B etc.
I said to my wife I will drive her across the US for a vacation, got plenty of time. She said she would love to go to Disneyland. My response OMFG. Should have come West it's the best.
I do like the country side forests and beaches are better than the city's ...l live on the west side of Melbourne last suberb then it's the country side n forests surf beaches about a 1 hour drive ...l ride dirt bikes in the forests in the morning then lazy around on the beach's along the great Ocean road in summer ...almost everyweek is a holiday ...winter is cooler but we only wait a few days and the rain will go away..Melbourne rainfall is way less than Sydney or Brisbane .
Glad you enjoyed us, and the birds 😁 but the bit about where the population lives is kinda misleading to non Aussies. 20km west of Sydney centre is still Sydney. Same with Brisbane and Melbourne.. Theres more to the country than just beach living. Once away from the cities yes theres miles of country but theres also hundreds of small towns everywhere that are rural support centres for the regions farms. So its not just empty. Plenty of people plenty of life plenty of stuff happening. Just not close to the beach. Trucks haul heavy freight food timber and live sheep and cattle cross country. Anything smaller with a tray back or tub is a ute. Even the American versions that seem to predominate these days. Thems the rules. . Not panda melons paddymelons
Haha, thanks for the corrections. Do note that I mention it's 10k except around the big cities. But yes, there are tons of rural towns we didn't even scratch. We especially missed the SE corner (capitol region and south). We did drive a bit inland on Gold Coast, but certainly we didn't see everywhere! Aren't the big trailers called rolling trains?? Paddymelons. Got it
@@EatWalkLearn 😁 I didnt pick up how long you were here but like the US and like you mentioned you cant fit in everything at one time. But you missed my end of the country around Canberra and the. Southern Tablelands. Where it does get cold (frosts fog snow) in winter. And a couple of hours to ski fields. Different again from where you went. Snow gums brittle gums (google them) Vineyards truffles open fires more meat pies and great coffee. Maybe next time. Big trucks with 2 3 or more trailers are called road trains. Our life blood cos distances are too big and conditions too poor to have rail lines everywhere.
No, you're wrong lol... ALL things you call a TRUCK is a UTE here. A tradies ute is just another ute! We have them for practicality only. A TRUCK here is an actual truck, that you mostly need a special licence for. You know, big square closed in box on the back! We have specific words for everything so we know exactly what people are talking about. No blanket terms! Lol
We call them Utes, Not Trucks, Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton, Trucks are Semi Trailers and big freight vehicles and most don't say G'day, we say How are you going.
The origin of the artwork you are talking about is not actually Aboriginal. the dot technique was actually started by a white guy but is has become very synonymous with Aboriginals who embraced it very quickly and now are recognised for it. Also, true aboriginal cultural artwork that goes back thousands of years is from rock art which uses a technique of creating the different colours by crushing certain rocks and mixing with water to create the colours of ochre, red brown etc. The painter then puts the mixture on his/her mouth and sprays in on to a rock wall while placing their hand on the wall. Taking the hand away leaves the coloured outline of that hand etc.
I don't believe this comment is accurate regarding aboriginal dot technique, as this technique is common in outback northern South Australia where I come from and the Northern Territory where I have aboriginal relatives. This techniqe is common among aboriginal culyural artists throughout these regions in remote communities.
They are utes not trucks. AC/DC is not from Melbourne they are from Perth. Bon Scott and the young's all went to school together near Fremantle after immigrating from Scotland. it is thought that highway to hell was written about the travels to school along the canning highway. Bon Scott is buried in Fremantle cemetry palmyra.
Tim Tam's went on the market in 1964. They were named by Ross Arnott, who attended the 1958 Kentucky Derby and decided that the name of the winning horse, Tim Tam, was perfect for a planned new line of biscuits. Pepperidge Farm, a sister company of Arnott's, began importing the Tim Tam to the United States in 2008.

If you want to see it properly you will need 1 month to see Perth, 3 months for the South West and about 4 to 6 months to see the North West. Perth, spring. South West, summer and the North West in the winter for the best weather. Bowie.

Ute is short for utilities
Thanks
No, you're wrong lol... ALL things you call a TRUCK is a UTE here. A tradies ute is just another ute! We have them for practicality only. A TRUCK here is an actual truck, that you mostly need a special licence for. You know, big square closed in box on the back! We have specific words for everything so we know exactly what people are talking about. No blanket terms! Lol
Thank you
We call them Utes, Not Trucks, Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton, Trucks are Semi Trailers and big freight vehicles and most don't say G'day, we say How are you going.
I love it! Thanks for your comments. Keep watching!
Thank you for the info
Thanks for the clarification. We learned so much and can't wait to return.
@@EatWalkLearn not a problem hope you enjoyed your time hear in Australia. Next time come and visit us on the west coast.
Mate, they’re utes not trucks. Trucks are much bigger.
Gotcha!
@@EatWalkLearn
We like yanks like you two.
My daughter lives in Brooklyn….she married a yank ….really nice guy.
Safe travels.
Toyota Hilux and the othe US style monsters are not utes. They are trucks.
Thanks
Tim Tam's went on the market in 1964. They were named by Ross Arnott, who attended the 1958 Kentucky Derby and decided that the name of the winning horse, Tim Tam, was perfect for a planned new line of biscuits. Pepperidge Farm, a sister company of Arnott's, began importing the Tim Tam to the United States in 2008.
Well how about that! I can't wait to get another dark chocolate one in my mouth!
@@EatWalkLearn He was a mighty champion and sire! He won two legs of the triple crown and finished second in the third leg, The Belmont Stakes, after fracturing a sesamoid bone. Tough as old boots. Cheers.
Glad you guys had a great time. Just a little thing I picked up on, AC/DC is from Perth in WA, not Melbourne.
But other than that ‘Don’t be strangers’ and your welcome back anytime. To Americanise it ‘Y’all come back now’ 😁👍🏼🇦🇺
Thanks for the info! We've now gotten corrected several times! Ooops :-)
You missed the best part the West Coast. Bowie.
We can't wait to return and explore the West Coast.
If you want to see it properly you will need 1 month to see Perth, 3 months for the South West and about 4 to 6 months to see the North West. Perth, spring. South West, summer and the North West in the winter for the best weather. Bowie.
"Young's family moved into a semi-detached house at 4 Burleigh Street in the Sydney suburb of Burwood.[2] Young attended Burwood Public School from 1960 to 1966 and in 1967,[11] attended Ashfield Boys High School"
Both are school's in my home town of Sydney.
Whoever told they formed in Melbourne is wrong.
