Wow what a surprise I saw this morning before heading in. That truck does bring back memories of an international harvester L-170 that they had for exactly that with the exact same headache rack. They also had a 2 axle trailer (b unit from a set of doubles) that was pulled behind it when they hauling lug boxes, then bins to the cannery. They used to have a loading ramp at the home place and a ramp out in the delta to haul small tractors out there as well. We also used the large walnut sized wood bins for dry beans that had too much moisture, normally they would be in steel bins 4x4 by I think 4 or 5 feet tall. The dry wood would help draw out moisture in the right conditions. By the 1980’s Lug boxes were demoted to sitting in the back of the pickup full of hitch pins, chains and spare parts.
I’m glad you liked it. When I was a kid I remember many farmers moving tractors around on old bobtails. There are still many trucks on the road in the summer hauling bins but unfortunately the really cool old bobtails have more or less disappeared. I used to enjoy going by the scales just so I could see what was in the line. You actually have me considering scale lug boxes. I’ve made quite a few real sized ones. We will see what happens. Thanks for watching 👍🏼🇺🇸
I remember those up, and down 99 in the 80s. Around that time i hauled several loads of walnuts from Orland . California had lots of cool iron on the road. Even CHP had those those short box pickups. Thanks.
The boxes are still used all over this valley today. Back in the 90’s I really used to enjoy going by the scales just to see the cool old bobtails waiting in the line. Thanks for watching 👍🏼🇺🇸
Almost ten years into retirement it gives me something to do and keeps me off from running the streets 😂. There’s actually several things, searching for them, in some cases researching how they were originally, and shop time for the repairs. Thanks for watching 👍🏼🇺🇸
Very cool love the oily bed patina and other ideas for period correct! Excellent 👍😎👍💯
Thank you, I appreciate that. It’s often the little details that make a big impact.
Thanks for watching 👍🏼🇺🇸
They look great on there.

Morning very cool. I like the finish on the bottom. Bottom of skids get beat up anyway so I think it’s just right. Have a great day.
I don’t think I ever really thought about that but that’s very true.
