nobody influences you more than YOU, because nobody talks to you more than YOU...you are in constant dialogue with yourself. This scene is a great example of that. Genius.
I love this scene and watch it often. It has very deep meanings within it. You have three versions of Ruben. The part that is still full of anger and rage which is his ego. Then you have the regular part of him which is just him and then you have the little scared boy inside. Each facing each other. Ruben is seeing the different parts of himself collide and yet he finds the strength to embrace that scared boy and face his anger. All portrayed beautifully by Denzel. Beautiful. Just beautiful.
What? An intelligent black man and outstanding actor who never wore a dress, kissed a white woman on screen (except for Malcolm X) or acted like a buffoon. They didn't want to show him in the ring boxing, fighting like a black man would. He was great in that film, and, the boxing scenes were incredible. Hell no, they didn't want that! However, he did win an Oscar for his lead role in "Training Day".., they really loved that shit.
@@skineyemin4276 Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that. The missed on the movie he should have gotten the Oscar for. Definitely should have gotten it for The Hurricane, and not Training Day.

Every time I watch the scene it makes me cry because I've been here before and I know exactly what it feels like to be torn between three parts of yourself while trying to fight them all!!
Ive had 3 different versions of me argue in my head. They’re all me, they’re not different personalities just different reasonings of myself. The angry me, the sensible me, and the sad/weak me. I usually contain it by pacing back and forth or staying busy. But when you’re alone they all come out. Basically to comfort your loneliness. It gives you someone else to talk to and three’s a crowd. I think it’s a defense mechanism

Hurricane was/is the best performance of Denzel Washington's career!!! I also enjoyed him in Training Day but that Oscar win was more of a consolation prize
I don't think Denzel Washington deserved an Oscar/Academy award for Training day. However I do feel he deserved an award for this movie and this scene. Just an amazing job as an actor.
Trying to hold your sanity while controlling your anger and accepting your vulnerability. Smh it pains me to watch a grown man cry. @xnow thelastmc I've been there a time or two.

I love this film. One of the many times I dealt with depression I use to watch this every night and fall asleep to it. Watched it daily. It helped me thru those days and still helps me. (Call me crazy🤷🏾♂️) to me it’s empowering, motivating. Definitely Oscar worthy. More so than “act” it I think Denzel Lived it. He’s been to “that place” mentally. Felt that way. Human. The scene is deep.
Every man has gone through this, sure. In the darkness of a maximum security prison cell, the battle within rages in a way no free man could ever understand.
This is what happens when all those personalities and strengths you use out there to survive in this world are finally all alone and fighting and turning on each other. Not only is he in the hole, his life has been one big giant void and hole and just when he is starting to make it in life the devil comes for him just like he told will Smith, to come and take it, Ruben hurricane Carter is a honest lion and hard as steel....and a true warrior.
This was truly Denzel Washington's most Greatest Powerful performance of his entire career! In fact Denzel Washington's Phenomenal performance in The Hurricane might even surpass his performance in Malcolm X. He should have won a Oscar for this movie but instead they gave him a Oscar for Training Day to make up for his loss for Malcolm X! They owe him another Oscar!
It's literally all three dimensions of his character in one scene.
Denzel is unreal.
Spot on bro❤
This is... in my humble opinion. The most accurate depiction of the void between clarity and despair. The choice of sanity.
