I sent you guys an IG message too, hoping to get this to you, but I might have a tip for the S's oil pressure issue. LHT Performance here on UA-cam once mentioned that someone he knew found out, through using a pressure gauge, that the OEM S2000 oil filter with the larger body (part no. 15400-PCX-004) actually helped maintain oil pressure past 8,000 rpm. It might not be the full answer to your problem, but could be a part of the puzzle. It fits my H22, so I'm guessing it's as universal as Honda's regular filter.

They should do a lightweight/balanced rotor assembly and a lightweight flywheel, the RX8 would gain a lot of low-end rpm. There's lots of potential tbh
@@henrym5889 it really does. I do think something's wrong with those dyno numbers tho, given that the stock rx8 makes around 185whp without porting. With the mods that Ben has, it should be making closer to 200-210whp
The rx8 is criminally underrated. Its built off a miata chassis so its a 4 door nearly 200hp 10k rpm screamer with amazing handling. Of all the fun cars ive driven in my lifetime that dam rx8 made me smile the most
It has a longer wheelbase than the NC too so it's incredibly progressive when past the limits of grip. A hugely capable chassis - stiffer than most modern sports cars even now.

Dave Coleman talks about it. but ford wouldnt share the funds for mazda to develope two independent rwd chassis( like how can mazda produce two coupes. hence the rx8 got lengthened and made a little nicer. look at the interiors) . so mazda in the middle of making the rx8 shared the designs for the NC. the RX8 has the better rear subframe but really the roller skates are literally interchangable.
As Ive said on the last video, RX8 did surprise many people that are not very well informed about them. Superior chassis gang :D Awesome video as always!

The S2000 looks incredible...before the professionally installed PPF of course! Please keep the RX-8 a grip monster/track weapon! I'd love to see how fast it can go. Maybe a turbo is the way to go...

Isnt that one of the problems with running an inline K-series? The way the oil pan and baffling is, it can starve oil... Another YTer had the same oil problem with a K-series S2000. But they fixed it with some kind of custom pan setup.
It does sound like the exact issue. My Honda was burning oil and when it got a little lower on track, it set the oil light on and cut my RPM 500 under VTEC. Had to keep topping it up, ended up overfilling it a bit later on, so I can get more laps in. Baffled oil pan fixed all those issues
@@matejpotrusil1464 Ive never had an issue on track, but I also have used Momoso pan from day 1 and Im also not using a K-swapped S2000.. But the inline K's have big issues because they push oil to the "side" away from the feed. The f22 has the feed in the "rear", whereas the K has it more centered. It needs a special baffle that keeps oil from rushing to the rear(side) of the pan and keep it more central where the feed is.. Im pretty sure the YTer was Dustin Williams whose s2000 had this same issue.
So now we have a better look as to why tall Ben's lap was much worse. The car is technically unfinished for track duty. Hard to put down a competitive lap when you have a lot more than a spiffy paint job to worry about. Hoping this gets a rematch with the S2K having its teething issues resolved. Doesn't need to be a Driving Line collab. I will watch it. Congrats short Ben on the RX-8
Welcome to the RX8 life. I had 245 firehawks and I had to work to break them loose. A good amount of camber in the front and a overall good alignment with good suspension will make the 8 an unusually good handling car.
Alright I Gotta say I already know what the next Road trip cars are going to be. Ben Lin's S10k and Ben Thorns 11th Gen Type R. Looking forward for it.
7:35 mazda made REALLY good brakes, its a pretty popular mod to put stock FC turbo II brakes or stock FD brakes on old toyotas like ae86s, i have some on my celica and theyre amazing. you can also change pads on them super easily without taking the calipers off, theyre pretty much racing brakes with street pads from the factory
I think turbo renesis is the best way to go. Its relatable and would be a good chance to showcase the wonderful aftermarket that the RX8 has with companies like BHR, Mazdatrix, RX8Performance, etc. making almost anything you could want for the platform.

REV IT UP! When the RX-8 came out, Mazda toured the country and set up autocross circuits in parking lots for literally anyone to come drive them. I don't remember paying, I think I just showed up at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro Massachusetts, signed a waiver, and got to drive the Rx8 as hard as I could push it around a 30-45 second course all day long. Still kicking myself for not buying one but I settled on a more reliable 1st gen Rx7 years later. As for this video series, I do hope you follow up with a true track battle once both cars are sorted. Maybe give the S2000 slightly wider tires and swap drivers and average the results. This is a battle worthy of more than a single video with mechanical issues.
@@hazexo1131 Not everybody is willing to pay so much for a carbon front splitter and in competitions where a car needs to meet a minimum weight, a heavier front splitter can help lighter cars get there. It's also at the lowest point of a car.
Regarding the oil pressure: check your logs in the haltech. Sometimes the safety trigger goes off due to small bubbles in the oil feed causing it to think the oil pressure is low. You’ll see this as quick drops in pressure that are infrequent. You can change your sample rate to compensate for this.

Both cars are sick. Definitely keep the 8, they are great track cars, one of the better Mazda chassis ever. I doubt youll do it, cuz prices are sky high, but 13brew single turbo in the 8 would be god tier.
I'm currently doing a REW swap with a EFR single turbo on my 8. I've been waiting for the turbo manifold from turblown engineering for months and now I'm considering canceling the project since I'm in Cali. 24k in parts alone, only the best stuff.
The RX8 is low-key a track ready car OEM with great handling, feel and braking. It doesn't require many mods to be turned into a proper track weapon. And as long as it's cooled appropriately, it will be reliable on track: The Doritos are at their happiest when spinning fast!

Fellow car guys are the best in the world. How many people would let you take anything off of anything and put it on yours to get through the day. Almost nobody but if you're driving a car, a car guys willing to help. One of my favorite examples is the Corvette guy who randomly dropped off a car cover. The sad thing is what that s2000 makes with all that work in it.....friend had imported a stock gen1 s2k with just an apex afc to tune and trim fuel curve( car completely stock even down to original airfilter in stock airbox )put the car at 245whp .....no mods .....no exhaust .....no header .....no intake.....no itbs.....)

A turbo up to about 7psi is doable with a renesis. Otherwise they need a REW or Turbo II engine.
Engine can handle it. However, the transmission is the biggest issue, considering it's basically just a NC Miata transmission
@@SkylineLofe Engine can handle ~6PSI. After that, it's a matter of time before kaboom. Better to REW swap (easy to say that).

It doesn't require many mods to be turned into a proper track weapon. And as long as it's cooled appropriately, it will be reliable on track: The Doritos are at their happiest when spinning fast!

For the rx8... well you saw unlimited grip, may as well make it an unlimited time attack build with 3 rotors. We are laking rotary content and the civic is a gltc monster so may as well do both

Fellow car guys are the best in the world. How many people would let you take anything off of anything and put it on yours to get through the day. Almost nobody but if you're driving a car, a car guys willing to help. One of my favorite examples is the Corvette guy who randomly dropped off a car cover. The guy thought he was throwing trash on his car. He went out inspected and there was a note saying I had one just like this here's my old cover. ❤❤❤❤ Car guys are the best

The sad thing is what that s2000 makes with all that work in it.....friend had imported a stock gen1 s2k with just an apex afc to tune and trim fuel curve( car completely stock even down to original airfilter in stock airbox )put the car at 245whp .....no mods .....no exhaust .....no header .....no intake.....no itbs.....)
