13:03 THANK YOU. So many people are so afraid of making mistakes, they let it stop them from learning or trying new things. New painters should be learning how to accept and deal with mistakes when they're painting their very first minis, IMO. Nice result, by the way. How much did it hurt you to have to paint the blue highlights on the armour?
Really nice! Didnt see this Video in your Overview. Thanks for painting StD! Wonderful inspiration! Thanks to your cloak Video i found it 😁 Paint shopping time!
Not sure which video to ask this question/request, but I’m currently watching this one. Could or would you make a video on how you prepare and/or thin your contrast paints from purchase of the paint to application. You have mentioned in a pervious video your paints are pre-thinned already and I cannot get my contrast paints to apply like yours. Thank you so much!
I don't thin my contrast paints when I transfer them. They are right out of the pot and poured into droppers. That's it. As for Contrast Application I made a video some weeks ago about the correct Contrast Technique, watch that if you haven't already

Thanks a lot. I'm brand spanking new to this and decided to go for Slaves to Darkness. This helped me immensely. Just wondering what glazing is? Is it just really thinned out base?
A glaze is a very thin layer of paint, that's all. It's a technique that can be used in lots of different ways, for example if you later enough thin layer one on top of the other in a staggered way, you will create a transition. But they can be used in many other ways, like tinting or filtering

Very nice vid and paintjob! I just have to ask, what is the point of using contrastpaints as basecoats on the armor and cloak? I mean, what is gained compared to using normal base paints?
On the armour actually it gets you one or two stages of Highlights out of the way, specially volumetric highlights, so you are saving time there. As for the cloak, well you can most definitely just mix a dark red and use that but to be honest, this is by far the most beautiful, intense and saturated burgundy I've ever used and with the benefit of getting to a beautifully smooth basecoat in one single coat instead of two or three with a regular acrylics. So there are benefits but not as many as on other parts. Also in the end this series is just a fun exercise, sometimes working with a limitation or a rule is fun and forces you to look for solutions and recipes that you wouldn't have ever tried otherwise and that's great to expand your knowledge and again, have fun in the process.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures OK, I get that, I was just thinking it's a lot harder to clean up mistakes on contrast paint. If you get a drop of white on the black armor for example, but don't see it when it happens, you can't just go over it with the black contrast and abbadon black has a different sheen. How would you solve something like that?
Oh super easy, barely an inconvenience. You don't make mistakes 😂 Joking aside, that's the main drawback of contrast paints, fixing mistakes is a huge challenge. If you've watched the whole video you can see me mess up pretty bad painting the leather and how I fixed it, if you are quick, you can just wipe off the mess before it dries and move on, otherwise you will have to mix a matching colour in the same way art restorers do, and correct it that way, not easy but doable.

Do you pull paint straight from the pot or do you use any medium? It might just be your technique but it goes on so well and seems so opaque compared to my results with contrast paints. Is this more due to the basecoat of mechanicus standard grey? Sorry I’m very new to painting and I love your scheme and am interested in starting a S2D army.
NEVER use paint straight from the pot, always place it in a palette first and never use your good brushes for that either. That being said, if nothing is clearly stated no medium was used at all. I have all my paints in droppers, because it's just better for me. As for the colour being more opaque, contrast paints are transparent so the colour you use underneath makes a big difference, in the case using Mechanicus which is a medium grey makes for a very much darker final colour, perfect for this particular application.
