Thank you for this class. My knife sharpening has been with traditional belly shaped knives. This class opens up the possibility of a whole new set of knife sharpening skills.

I have Boker Fox Trapper bush knife and was wondering how to sharpen it on my T8. Great explanation and this helps immensly!

Not sure if you still do the training videos anymore. But an idea for a show I would be interested in would be a tour of the Tormek campus. Showing the different departments involved in creating tormek products.

Hi Bob! We do, it's just a bit more difficult scheduling them now that our experts are back on the road again. Did you see our latest episode on specialized tools? :)

I purchased a T-8 this year and exclusively use diamond wheels for sharpening turning tools. I use the water mixed with corrosion preventing fluid provided by tormek as instructed in a spray bottle and just spritz the wheel as I sharpen. Do I need to worry about freezing issues in the winter when it gets down to well below zero Fahrenheit in my uninsulated shop at night? Could I add an antifreeze fluid or alcohol to the mixture to prevent freezing? Should I not use it at all when it’s that cold?

There is a jig originated by Curtis Buchanan (Tennessee chairmaker) for sharpening drawknives that works well for these blades. I made my own version for my T-8 that is very simple but works well. If you are interested in pictures, let me know.

Is there a way to sharpen recurves using a diamond wheel?

    • @magtour

I would also like this answer. I’m certain there’s a way without using a chamfered wheel edge.

Hej, well, you'll need a rounded edge or a very small diameter sharping wheel.
If you use the edge of a diamond wheel it will worn out very fast and your blade's edge has not an even and nice bevel.

Why not make an attachment knife jig like the t2 for the t8???

      Hi Phao!
The main reason is that the Angle Guide for the Tormek T-2 Pro Kitchen Knife Sharpener and the Tormek T-1 Kitchen Knife Sharpener limits the sharpening to mostly only kitchen knives. The KJ-45 Centering Knife Jig and the KJ-140 Wide Centering Knife Jig lets you sharpen almost any type of knife. The "edgy" answer: the Tormek T-8 Original is not a knife sharpener, it is a water-cooled sharpening system for most edge tools 😎
      Stay sharp!

would like to see something on convex edges with the new jigs.

Thank you Ron for the request! We will look into the possibilities of that. Meanwhile you can have a look at this part of the KJ Demo-episode where Wolfgang shows the convex sharpening: ua-cam.com/video/JFHqQg5wZEg/v-deo.html (starting at 28 min and 40 seconds in).
      Stay sharp!

@@TormekSharpening I saw that one, so is it safe to say that the convex bevel is a fixed width based on the distance between the stops at a given sharpening angle? I would love to see the effectiveness of such a method on sharpness. Does this make the burr more difficult to create or feel? Does this impact the ability to remove the burr effectively with all the up and down motion? I have a chris reeve knife that I would love to sharpen effectively with a convex edge, the method perplexes me as to how effective it would be.

Glad I had some old recurved carpet knives to practise on. Initially, what a mess. Looked much better after subsequent attempts. This was not easy. Muscle memory. If one is a young, unmarried man then the odds are better. After marriage, the both the "muscle" and the memory deteriorates. Excellent videos. Thank you! 🍁🍻

    Good morning,
First of all, thank you very much for your products and company spirit.
I have a T4 Bushcraft and ask you for some help for my new knife because it has a convex blade: a mix of "U shape" and "V shape" (Fallkniven F1 pro COS). I believe the design (but please correct me if needed) is more for "linear sharpening" not " for "round sharpening".
Well, before I make "trials/mistakes" with my new knife I prefer to ask pros; so I ask you for advise and maybe some other viewers might be interested too.
Thank you in advance and have a great day.
Eric (enjoying sharp knives in France).

а сделать нормальную FVB что бы не собирать конструктор из 2 торцевых модулей, нельзя было?

Not quite sure if I understand what you are asking for. As Wolfgang mentions in the sharpening class you get a more flexible solution with two MB-100 Multi Base, especially if you have Diamond Wheels in your sharpening setup. Stay sharp!
