I actually really love this movie. It has some incredibly emotional moments and terrific performances from the cast as always. This movie gets way too much hate.
The point of all of that is to confuse you so you stop paying attention to the timeline and just enjoy 😅 because, let's face it, no one can figure out when each movie takes place and how old they are and who is/isn't alive at this point
One of the most unbelievable things about this movie is how Magneto is supposed to go from looking like Michael Fassbender to Ian McKellan in less than ten years. They could've tried to at least age Fassbender up. Give him some gray hair or something.
The girl dancing at the party with all the sparkly stuff around was Dazzler. In the comics she can absorb sound and release it in one burst. She's also a pop star in the comics.
Yep, and she was in the movie…why?! Someone earlier posted that the Fox X-Men movies are superior to the MCU films because they don’t rely on nostalgia to get the audience to care. I mean…everyone has their delusions. 😂🤣😂
I found Simon Kinberg's direction pretty solid He was able to give the movie an identity of its own, rather than trying to replicate Bryan Singer's direction Unlike Brett Ratner tried to do in The Last Stand
Yes! Finally, someone gets it! People associate direction with quality, but you can be a good Filmmaker, and the project does not work for other reasons or vice versa. Kinberg isn't a bad filmmaker at all, he's competent, but his writing on this and pacing really let him down. I think over time he can really hone his skills more.
Word was that Simon Kinberg already directed parts of Days of Future Past and Apocalypse, whenever Bryan Singer was MIA. One of the reasons why the main 3 decided to come back for this and the cancelled part 2 movie was that they liked working with Kinberg.
@@Zombie_TrooperI legitimately think that the opening NASA mission is the best the X-Men have ever been in live action. They felt like a team and it had proper tension that I think this series needs. I’m really worried the MCU will do the same tension deflating nonsense that they overuse when they get to X-Men.
A tv show that is in the Marvel universe that many skip is Cloak and Dagger. It also is the introduction of Roxxon Corp which has been an easter egg in many shows including Loki.
The movies main fault is trying to a comic saga that was built up over years in 2 hours. It just can't do justice to one of the most iconic works ever.
I don't care what anybody says, but I love this movie. All the performances were top-notch by all, and the action was well choreographed. It was well-paced, and the story progressed nicely. I think Sophie Turner did a great job in the role of the Dark Phoenix. I think she did great in her performance, showing her struggle with choosing the dark side or sacrificing herself for the good side. But that's just my opinion. I know a lot of people hate on this movie.
I loved Hans Zimmer's score so much that I made a video of the first AVENGERS with the theme "Gap" and "Reckless" And one of VENOM with theme "Deletion"
You could always watch The Gifted which was a two season Fox TV show in a universe where the X-Men are missing. It features Magneto's daughter, a new version of Blink from Days of Future Past and the brother of Warpath also from DoFP.
Meh, the acting is bad, the cinematography isn’t that good and the writing is average. It’s a waste of time, better to spend the time watching The Defender’s saga and Legion is WAYYY better than The Gifted so that is a better option than The Gifted.
Hey, Addie! The Phoenix Saga ranks among the greatest X-Men stories ever. A studio would require four complete films to do it justice! I appreciated that "Dark Phoenix" made a good faith effort to tell the Saga with as much fidelity as possible despite unavoidably necessary alterations based on the franchise's early narrative choices and the lack of cosmic build-up. A cosmic element is at THE ROOT of this story and a lack thereof in "X3" contributed greatly to mangling the tale during Fox's first pass. However, even without that background knowledge, the movie takes great pains to seamlessly integrate the more outlandish elements by carefully explaining what the Phoenix Force is, how it destroyed the D'Bari world, how Vuk's group survived and why they wish to harness this power in that beautiful starscape sequence. Rather than finding it jarring, I saw it as a natural expansion of the X universe. The single greatest correction directly contradicts the end of "Apocalypse" which implied the Phoenix Force was an intrinsic manifestation of Jean's power. The plot quickly establishes that an EXTERNAL presence bonds with Jean augmenting her telekinetic abilities. Once the writers established that, I forgave the film any flaw because I realized that Fox was earnestly attempting to give fans the story they so desperately wanted to see. Not only did they get the power source correct but then they added the shuttle incident, the planetary holocaust, an extraterrestrial presence and Jean's apotheosis. These were all accurate but risky decisions since the series had been so earthbound up until this point. However, as the license was expiring, Fox decided to go for broke and I applaud their effort. They so aimed to please that they even give us a brief glimpse of Genosha, the mutant sanctuary. Sure, Genosha looks like a refugee camp instead of a bustling tropical metropolis and Jessica Chastain is not Empress Lilandra of the Shi'ar Empire but Fox gets points for trying. Although there is less social allegory and more derivative beats, you still get the powerful duality of Erik and Charles, the same clutch of terrific actors and some extraordinary fight sequences with powers used in concert. X-Men movies may not all reach transcendent heights but they never fail to entertain. It's impossible to dislike a movie that has Jean humble the two most powerful figures we know by crushing Erik's helmeted head and by forcing Charles to stumble up a flight of stairs! The concluding train reshoots were cobbled together hastily but we see the youngsters cut loose for the first time with savage results in a brutal climax! These are the simple pleasures to be had in this film. You should see the animated adaptation of the Phoenix Saga from the '90's cartoon! It is by far the most comic accurate with Jean's gut-wrenching heroic sacrifice on the Blue Area of the Moon. The discrepancy between "X3" and "Dark Phoenix" regarding Jean's childhood is the result of this story taking place in the secondary timeline. This film should have been seen after the '80s-set "Apocalypse" and before the '00s-set "Deadpool". The last chronological appearance of the young cast is their cameo in "Deadpool 2". This movie and "The New Mutants" were meant to spawn more sequels But Disney bought Fox and pulled the plug on the X-Men franchine, so they can introduce them in the MCU They ordered multiple reshoots, like replacing the Skrulls with the D'Bari, the space battle in the 3rd act, and the sequel baits The real version is probably lying somewhere inside Disney's vault, along with the original cut of "The New Mutants"
Through your eyes and a different perspective going into watching this, I don't see this as a bad movie any longer. With each new threat the team always steps up and delivers! Especially Erik. Oh what could have been if he stayed with Charles. There's something special about seeing a chessboard between them. Take care of yourself, Addie!! I loved Ollie's bit of insight. We need more commentary and appearances from him!!
It's still a bad movie. We barely get to know Jean Grey or any of the other new Mutants in Apocalypse. Now we are expected to care about them in one of the biggest storylines in the X-Men comics. Plus, the series is jumping decades for no discernable reason. This story is not earned.
Wild to think that you've almost finished! I do pity the poor actors that have to take on the roles for the MCU - even if they're fantastic they're gonna face constant comparisons to the two exiating and much-beloved casts. Thanks as always, Addie!
The new cast isn't going to have much problems being compared to this younger X-Men cast that took over from the original older X-Men. The only ones that might be hard to recast are Prof X and Magneto but the other younger X-Men actors are forgettable.
If you want more of the X-Men universe, there are two TV shows you can watch. Legion came out in 2017 and ran for three seasons, 27 episodes. It's kind of a trippy show, but it IS set in the X-Men universe. Then there's The Gifted, a Fox show that ran for two seasons, 29 episodes. It's set in a post X-Men world where mutants are treated as outcasts and hunted down by Sentinel Services.
@@agentofchaos7456 The weird thing for me was always that in the movies she always already seem to have the phoenix power before she even became the phoenix. I mean, look at the ending of Apocalypse and also X-Men 3 where she never was to space at all to get the power.
@@agentofchaos7456 Oh really ? I must say i never read the comics, i just started with the 90s animated series, and so i thought that was also the "real" story how she got those powers.
I love all these movies because I grew up with the TV cartoon and then had to wait decades to see some of these stories. I can see how someone who grew up starting with Iron Man would have higher standards, because there are a million good "comic" movies now. But I think these X-Men movies are secretly made by and for the TV cartoon generation, and I'm here for it! LOVE EM!
The best thing about this movie was the death of Raven. She was never an X-man and definitely wasn't a leader. It's like taking Darth Vader and making him leader of the Jedi Counsel. Well maybe not that bad but you understand the analogy, lol
Simon Kinberg might not be a good writer But you can bet that he's a great producer It was because of him that we got "First Class", "Deadpool" and "Logan" And not to mention "The Martian" too
A producer is basically just a person that pays to make the movie. Sometimes they exert creative control over a movie, but it's almost always considered a negative since it interferes with the creative visions of the writer and director.
@@DragonbIaze052but Kinberg wasn't like that Also, did you know that he was the one that pitched Matthew Vaughn to direct First Class? He saw Kick-Ass and thought he was perfect for the job
@@RayMcElroy50 Even with how much terrible stuff they cut out when adapting the comic to a movie, Kick-Ass is still definitely not the movie for me. Mark Millar licks goats.
@@DragonbIaze052a producer is more involved than financing a film. They oversee every stage of making a film, including selecting a script, hiring screenwriters, finding a director if it's not a director's project/proposal to begin with, they coordinate with hiring of cast members with the director and cinematographer as well, and are responsible for pitching the movie to studios. The producers themselves aren't usually the financiers, they help secure financial backing from others. They are responsible for approving locations and getting the permissions needed to film there and the schedule. There are plenty who do less/delegate but in general this is their role
@@SJ19_998 I believe the financing is done by the executive producer They give the first call and the last call While the main producer dictates everything throughout, like the kind of approach they're gonna go with, the characters they're gonna use They give the directors and the writers these instructions
I hope you'll ignore the people who are telling you to skip "The New Mutants." Some people complain loudly about it, but I actually liked it and would love to see you react to it. I don't want to spoil anything but there's a shift in tone that makes the movie feel a bit dark and I really liked that change in mood. I have a feeling you'll enjoy it, given how you've reacted to the other movies. Those of us who enjoyed "The New Mutants" will be eagerly waiting for it. ✌🤓
I thought it was an alright movie. They could have done a lot better with it, and more with the tone/genre they choose. I didn't regret watching it, but I also see why people would recommend against it.
I actually kind of enjoyed new mutants. The only thing that felt really weird about it was that to me it felt like it was stuck in the first act the whole movie
I actually Like this Movie; Mutants vs. Aliens was an Interesting change, and this version's Phoenix is so much better (more accurately depicted) than in "The Last Stand."
I like X-men the last stand more because it's about mutants vs mutants and humans the inclusion of aliens in X-men dark phoenix felt like a jump the shark moment because it comes out of nowhere it wasn't established anywhere else in the X-Men movies
I can forgive the exclusion of Wolverine because they finally gave Dazzler her first (and maybe sadly only) big-screen appearance. I always loved her right from her first appearance in the comics.
When X-Men: Phoenix was released, it was the beginning of the Disney deal to purchase Fox assets, including the X-Men and Fantastic Four rights back from Fox. New Mutants was released during the pandemic after being delayed several times. The rumour is that the X-Men will get a bit of a farewell in the MCU, with Deadpool 3 and Avengers: Secret Wars. After which, a new group of X-Men actors will be introduced as the MCU version of the X-Men.
What I like the most about the X-Men movies is the fact that they never tried to follow the MCU's formula or its tropes, especially after it became a trend They never relied on nostalgia, the tone always kept consistent, and they always focused on the present And Dark Phoenix kept that way They kept their sense of individuality. Even the score was different in each movie
Consistency? Staying focused? Individuality? Not relying on nostalgia? PLEASE. I suppose Colossus throwing Wolverine, fastball special-style, at a Sentinel was an original idea the screenplay writers came up with themselves. And that's just one of half-dozen "nostalgia" moments from the movies I could list just off the top of my head. And of course, inserting Wolverine into X-Men: Apocalypse in his Weapon X get-up was an incredibly vital and essential part of the story. 🙄 Also, I'm not sure if you're aware, but there have been numerous published articles listing the dozens of inconsistencies, ridiculous logic gaps, basic plot incongruity, character deviations from movie to movie, and plain nonsensical decisions in the Fox X-Men movies. IGN, Collider, CinemaBlend, ScreenRant, CBR, The Wrap, ScreenCrush, and many more have all published at least one article skewering the X-Men movies for their lack of consistency, continuity, and logic. And don't kid yourself - just like the DCEU, Fox absolutely wanted to follow the MCU's wildly successful formula...but they couldn't get out of their own way, tripping thelsemves up and failing more times than they succeeded. The only really good Fox X-Men movies are First Class, Days of Future Past, X2, and Logan. The rest are middling to horrific - including this dumpster fire. Sorry Addie, I know you enjoyed it, but it's awful on so many levels. And lastly, you should be aware that film scores are different every single time. There have never been two major studio movies that have the exact same music as the other. Ever.
@@marlonclark1896yes you are right I don't understand why this guy always say bad things about the MCU🤦🤦🤦 The MCU movies are way better compared to X men movies so there is no point of arguing with this stupid MCU hater
If the timeline is confusing, there are three: 1) the original timeline, X X2 X3 2) first class timeline, FC DoFP 3) altered timeline, Apocalypse & this Specifically, Days of Future's Past at the end changed the timeline so that (1) never happens. Jean being alive etc... that erased all those events of the og trilogy. Apocalypse & Dark Phoenix follow the altered timeline where Raven becomes a hero and the professor abdicates his position.
No there are only two timelines. FC and the 1970's portion of DoFP happen in the same timeline as Dark Phoenix and Apocalypse. The future events of DoFP take place in the same timeline as X, X2 and X3.
Addie, the New Mutants were the 1980s Xmen junior team, they made a movie for the 90s one , Generation X (1995) it might be on youtube, it was the first Xmen movie made
I actually like this film. Partly because of Hans Zimmer’s outstanding score, partly because I thought Sophie Turner did a good job but mostly because I remember how awful Brett Ratner’s Last Stand was from 2006. But yeah, I concede it makes no sense for Magneto to care that much given what he tried to do to her in Days of Future Past. Other than that, it’s fine.
If you want to see more Mutant like Super Heros, you can always watch "Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.. There are characters like mutants but with a different take.. Clark Gregg asked Kevin Feige if the Darkhold's appearance on WandaVision did anything to "diminish" AoS. Kevin Feige replied, including AoS as well as the Netflix shows "I really want to see people who love those shows, I want to see it all get crossed over as much as it could, cause I think that's what the Marvel fans want" Also, WandaVision's director Matt Shakman, when asked about the different look of the Darkhold, said "It is part of the Marvel Universe though, so I would imagine it's the same book."

"Blast that thruster. Slow down the spin." That would only work if there's friction such as air resistance. In space, you'd just spin forever anyway. I don't get how difficult it is for writers and directors to understand physics - I get it's not their forte, but if you're writing a space scene, consult a physicist.
My favorite part is when they bury the surrogate mother of the X-Kids, team leader, and international hero in the back yard by the basketball court like a pet.
A lot of people are buried on private property. It's in no way a pet thing. It's a way to keep loved ones close and somewher eyou can visit daily and know that their graves are being taken care of. Professor X, Jean, and Cyclops are all buried at the mansion with memorials in place at the end of Last Stand.
I don't know why people dislike this one, I thought it was pretty solid. After this you have The New Mutants and Deadpool 1 & 2 to go. If you want a fairly good Xmen tv series, The Gifted is a good choice.
@@austingillum4807 Oh that's right she did. I could have sworn she said she had a couple more Xmen movies to watch, but the only one left is The New Mutants. Then she can start in on some Xmen to series like The Gifted.
Addie, at 3353, that is showing that Jean is alive and going into Outer Space , they can make a sequel to this, in the comic books and the Xmen cartoon from the 90s, she flies into Outer Space and destroys a star too close to a certain alien race's planet, and they declare war on the Jean Grey and send their best warriors to take the entity out, and the Xmen have to defend her on the dark side of the Moon, and in Falcon and the Winter soldier tv show, they said Steve was on the Moon.
Taken on its own, this movie is mostly ok to somewhat good level, with some decent action and valiant attempts by most of the actors, but not great. Taken in context with the whole franchise, and its flaws become more apparent, demonstrating that the script was unfinished and there was a lot of editing done to the filmed footage to get it down to a less than 2 hour runtime.
Addie at 407, in iron man 1, he asked Jarvis about the record for the highest a plane got into the atmosphere and Jarvis showed him the Blackbird, the Xmen's jet
The X-men animated series 3rd season follows the Phoenix saga between than these movies do. The movies don’t even mention the Shiar aliens or the Star Jammers which maybe for the best because the movies would probably depict them all wrong. Star jammers are like the Guardians of the Galaxy except they space pirates that are lead by Cyclop’s father Christopher Summers. Scott’s parents were taken into outer space by the to Shiar evil emperor D’Ken who kills Scott’s mother. Scott and Alex survived a plane crash because they had the only parachute that was left in the plane.
They don't mention the Shi'ar those movie is suppose to be an adaptation of the Hellfire arc. The Shi'ar were suppose to appear in the sequel. You can't tell a whole saga in a single film.
Can you add Ryan George's Pitch Meetings to the polls? For any Mcu movie you've already reacted to. They're hilarious! He basically pitches the movie, but points out all the plot holes in a comedic way!
The movie was promoted to be a dark origin story about Jean struggling with mental illness and becoming the Phoenix. It delivered on what it's selling point was promising.
Good review Addie. Now with Deadpool. There is one call (Once upon A Deadpool). It is PG-13. They try moving away from the R movie. This would make 1 more till Deadpool 3 comes out.
Only one movie left until you FINALLY complete the entire X-Men saga. However, I must warn you that The New Mutants (2020) will have more elements of a HORROR movie that may scare you. Please be brave, Addie. You go girl.
Me too. But the reason why I had to warn her about the film's horror elements is because of her bad experience in October when she watched The Silence of the Lambs (1991), The Shining (1980) & Alien (1979), with the middle film being the scariest to her.
@@DragonbIaze052 I was expressing my encouragement to Addie, who is about to watch The New Mutants (2020), an X-Men horror movie, after this one. She's NOT a fan of them and still closes her eyes and covers her ears during horror movie trailers that play in theaters.
@@HereJune A flaw in the movies is that the Dark Phoenix Saga is always condensed down into a single movie, and the 2 years worth of comics where she's Phoenix without being Dark Phoenix are essentially taken out so that she goes straight from Marvel Girl to Dark Phoenix. No movie Phoenix has ever actually learned to use her powers beyond the absolute basics. It's implied that this Jean does, but since the series ended before this movie got a sequel, we never got to see that. Remember that it is canon to the series that the Phoenix Force casually destroyed a stellar system. That is the level of power a Phoenix host is wielding, and Jean Grey commands a larger portion of the Phoenix Force than any other host in history because she's its favorite. Movie Phoenix is the equivalent of MCU Scarlet Witch during Age of Ultron in terms of power development.
Same. I actually liked "The New Mutants" and I wish people would stop convincing reactors to skip movies just because they didn't like them. There are people out there who _do_ like them, and we'd like to see reactions to them too.
IIRC this movie had to go under a bunch of rewrites and reshoots due to having a very similar plot as Captain Marvel. IMO the movie is fine but due to rewrites had to lean on generic tropes and a change up in antagonist. The one thing that Fox always did get right though was the dynamic between Charles and Erik.
Better and accurate depiction of Skrulls than they did in the Captain Marvel movie as a poor "refugee" allegory. And now Secret Invasion suffered far more from the fallout and audience apathy. I always thought Jean already had that innate "Phoenix" force from the previous movie. The power from the solar flare only exacerbated the Phoenix's hunger for power which turned her way more unstable.
Jean is the Phoenix's "perfect host" and when she's in full control of her powers, she is a multiversal being called the "White Phoenix of the Crown." In that form, Jean can make and unmake entire universes. Its power is the sum total of the psionic energy from all life that ever was, is or will be in the multiverse. It's effectively immortal and it's only surpassed by other multiversal cosmic entities like the Living Tribunal, the Beyonders, etc. As cool as the Dark Phoenix powers looked here, they really dumbed it down for the movies. She could have waved her hand and obliterated the solar system by accident, then fixed all the damage if she chose to. Turning random humanoids to dust would be such a tiny fraction of the Phoenix's total power that it's not even worth mentioning.
From what I read, basically all mutants save Deadpool will be recast for the MCU. Hugh Jackman will return to Wolverine's role for Deadpool 3, but no word after that. Explaining the next movie, New Mutants: in the comics there are several mutant teams. The X-Men are the main one, but there are also the X-Factor, X-Force (there's a joke on Deadpool 2 with those 😄), Excalibur (a British mutant team), and so on. The New Mutants is one of those teams, and is usually formed by younger mutants still in training, so its composition changes over time. So yeah, you most likely won't see any previously known character in that movie: I never saw this one, but unfortunately the reviews weren't kind with it.
That's all nothing more than baseless speculation at this point. There has been no word from Marvel Studios about a reboot. In fact, there are rumors suggests that they won't recast a number of X-Men characters.
@@agentofchaos7456 Saying that many characters won't be recast is also baseless speculation as well. I guess we will need to wait and see. For sure they'll recast Wolverine: Hugh Jackman is 54 years old now and already said that after Logan he would only return to the character if it was to be on the MCU at least once, which he'll do on Deadpool 3.
@@vinnycordeiro It's a rumor rather than speculation and one that has evidence to support it. The rumor was reported on shortly before Hugh Jackman's return was announced. It is unlikely to be coincidence since the timing is too perfect. Hugh Jackman said that he would have reconsidered retiring if he could team-up with the Avengers and that probably won't happen in Deadpool 3. He has also suggested that might not be a one and done. That said, they will probably make Laura (Dafne Keen) into Wolverine rather than recast because that is the current theme of the MCU at the moment.
@@agentofchaos7456 Until official confirmation is given, anything that we read or say is just speculation. And now that the SAG-AFTRA is on strike together with the WGA (pay them, studios/streaming services!), there won't be any official news any time soon.
This movie had a lot of potential and Captain Marvel had Skrulls on it thus this movie had to change it at last moment so the villains are of this race. And also the powerset visually looked like Captain Marvel so they had to redo the Visuals as well. It was to be the last X Men movie from Fox (except New Mutants) it couldn't be the swansong it was supposed to be but I hope The MCU will do justice with all the Xmen Materials
I'm afraid that this was a film that was derailed in part due to the takeover negotiations involving Disney and 20th Century Fox. The original plan was for the story to consist of two films, which would have been perfect, 1st one devoted to the rise of the Phoenix and the 2nd one to the Dark Phoenix. But I assume because of the uncertainty caused by the early contact between Disney and Fox, it was abandoned for only one film. Considering the length of the Phoenix saga in the comics, it meant that corners had to be cut. The Aliens in the film were originally meant to be Skrulls, but their appearance in Captain Marvel caused re-writes / re-shoots. Also the original 3rd act was supposed to be mostly in space, but it was felt that it would be too similar to Captain Marvel, so the 3rd act had to be rewritten / re-shot. So in a number of ways, this film was nowhere near what could have been and should have been. There's one cameo ar the White House dinner Chris Claremont makes an appearance, the British American writter who was responsible for revival of the Uncanny X-Men Comics in 1975 (he stayed for 16 years), Ultimately turning them into the massive success that they became for Marvel. He was also responsible for the creation of many other series including Wolverine, New Mutants, Excalibur, etc.
this is the final X-Men movie under 20th Century Fox cause at that point Disney bought the company and The New Mutants was just a leftover since it kept getting delayed for so long. Deadpool 3 is gonna be part of the MCU in phase 5, and soon after we'll get an X-Men reboot
The one thing that never made sense to me is that Jean used "the phoenix" to defeat Apocalypse in the previous movie and yet she only gets the power in this one. It's like they completely ignore earlier events
She sort of has a link with the phoenix, In the apocalypse she basically summoned a fraction of the phoenix force's power. In this one she happened to absorb the Phoenix Force's Physical form which was basically a lot more than she's capable of handling at the moment.
A quick copy paste from Wiki: Phoenix Force: As the favored and true avatar of the powerful Phoenix Force, Jean may greatly increase her powers by tapping into the omniversal life energies of those yet unborn. The Phoenix Force also allows its avatars to manifest additional powers, especially in terms of Jean as its "host, house, and self". Jean Grey is the strongest and complete host of Phoenix Force and as such, she is even capable of forcibly ripping it out of another host and forcing its status upon herself. They became the White Phoenix of the Crown and ruled over the omniverse in the white hot room.
Immortality: Jean and the Phoenix Force are one-and-the-same entity at some fundamental level, and as such Jean can never truly die and as a Phoenix Force avatar, she does not age. Upon the death of her corporeal form, Jean spends time in the White Hot Room doing 'Phoenix work'. The Phoenix Force can also restore Jean's body to life, although there appears to be some unknown limitation to how quickly it can successfully accomplish this following her death.
@@agentofchaos7456 Phoenix is a separate entity, it's the Primal Force of Life and Destruction in Marvel Universe. Charles and other X-men just don't have knowledge of the entity, so they considered it a nickname/personality in X-Men The Last Stand.
I previously commented the only good things about this movie were the score and some of the FX. After watching your reaction I remembered a couple other things. First, it's not nearly as cringe, awful, ugly, and unwatchable as Apocalypse or Origins, so avoids being the worst X-Men movie by a comfortable margin despite what some say. Second, the train fight scene was pretty cool. Finally... though none of the actors here turn in anywhere close to their best performances, and most of them weren't given much to work with... the film by and large still has an amazing cast. I just wish they had written Mystique out of the story. JLaw was so obviously not interested in playing the role anymore. She was never particularly well suited to playing Mystique in the first place... Mystique is supposed to be elegant and mysterious and sexy and somewhat elevated above everyone else, so Lawrence's "c'mon, 'sko!" delivered in her Kentucky accent is really jarring... but it's made so much worse when she's clearly phoning in the performance and only there due to contract obligations. I actually clapped when I saw her die in the movie. I wish Days of Future Past had been her last time playing the character and it could have gone out on a high note instead of like this.
As far as I know, the x-men movie francise seems to be at a dead end after the next movie, as its production had some issues as well. Who knows when or even if we will get another set of characters ready for a trilogy. Is the x-men lore still evolving or are the comics or other media at a final stage?
There's so much more X-Men story than you could possibly imagine. Almost everything in the movies is based on the part of X-Men written by one person, Chris Claremont, and it's not even all of what he wrote. This movie is the only hint we're given of the X-Men actually being heroes. The movies haven't even touched on the Decimation nor the Genoshan Genocide, let alone Krakoa. They haven't mentioned Cyclops's dad being a space pirate, or the X-Men having a retrofitted Shiar spaceship. Kitty Pryde hasn't even adopted a space dragon as a pet yet. We haven't seen Cyclops marry a clone of Jean, have a son with her, leave her the moment the real Jean came back, then send his son into the future to become Cable. Emma Frost hasn't been a member of the X-Men, and the Cuckoos have at the absolute very most been given a minor, uncredited background cameo that's out of focus. Scarlet Witch hasn't been seen at all. We haven't seen the Phoenix use anybody else as a host. The closest to the Morlocks that we've gotten are the background mutants who join the Brotherhood in Last Stand, as well as two different versions of Calliban. Professor X, Magneto, and Apocalypse still haven't teamed up to help lead a mutant nation on a living island. Mister Sinister is still nothing but a background cameo through his company's name, Essex Corp. Nightcrawler doesn't even fight with a pirate sword yet. There are too many missing characters to even count.
Only two real complaints about this movie. Jean's arc should have gone on for one movie longer. Also, rewriting the skrulls and super-skrull to not be skrulls just makes it painfully obvious that they're meant to be skrulls, but they didn't want to look like they were copying Captain Marvel that came out the same year. It's just so clear in the train scene that she was supposed to be putting up forcefields and stretching and shooting fire, but instead she's just kinda standing there and gesturing people to death. Also, it makes the "Probably just squirrels." line when the aliens first show up into a kinda-funny bit of word play with how much squirrel sounds like skrull.
Why hasn’t she done Star Wars: Andor yet? If there are any of her Patrons on here (who are the only people that reactors listen to), hopefully they can push her towards that show instead of garbage like She Hulk and so-so things like this movie. Unless the ones paying her wages aren’t into well written shows with great direction, production, and acting.
The comic storyline this movie was based on was an epic masterpiece and this film is so far from that. It's so tragic it makes you want to weep. All the writers and producers of this utter travesty of cinema should never be in charge of any film making of any kind.

😂
One of the most unbelievable things about this movie is how Magneto is supposed to go from looking like Michael Fassbender to Ian McKellan in less than ten years. They could've tried to at least age Fassbender up. Give him some gray hair or something.
The original X-Men movies were said to take place in the future.

I found Simon Kinberg's direction pretty solid
He was able to give the movie an identity of its own, rather than trying to replicate Bryan Singer's direction
Unlike Brett Ratner tried to do in The Last Stand
I agree.
@@Zombie_TrooperI legitimately think that the opening NASA mission is the best the X-Men have ever been in live action. They felt like a team and it had proper tension that I think this series needs. Roxxon was a big part of Daredevil and Iron Fist
The movies main fault is trying to a comic saga that was built up over years in 2 hours. It just can't do justice to one of the most iconic works ever.
Not true. The movie is meant to be a Phoenix origin story and it would have been a Dark Phoenix Saga trilogy had it been successful.

The strange thing about the hate is that a lot of it is based on conjecture/misconception and poorly dated reasons.
I loved Hans Zimmer's score so much that I made a video of the first AVENGERS with the theme "Gap" and "Reckless"

Sorry, legion is better and runaways too.
@@reynaldolorenzo8409yeah but not all actors were bad. And the second season many of the actors did better job than the first one.

This movie and "The New Mutants" were meant to spawn more sequels
But Disney bought Fox and pulled the plug on the X-Men franchine, so they can introduce them in the MCU
They ordered multiple reshoots, like replacing the Skrulls with the D'Bari, the space battle in the 3rd act, and the sequel baits
The real version is probably lying somewhere inside Disney's vault, along with the original cut of "The New Mutants"
Should really give James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender massages for carrying this part of the X-Men franchise on their backs 😂

It's still a bad movie. We barely get to know Jean Grey or any of the other new Mutants in Apocalypse. Now we are expected to care about them in one of the biggest storylines in the X-Men comics. Plus, the series is jumping decades for no discernable reason. This story is not earned.

That's speculation rather than rumor.
This movie gets a lot of hate but This movie was good not great but still good.
What I like the most about the X-Men movies is the fact that they never tried to follow the MCU's formula or its tropes, especially after it became a trend
They never relied on nostalgia, the tone always kept consistent, and they always focused on the present
And Dark Phoenix kept that way
They kept their sense of individuality. Even the score was different in each movie
except for the fact they partly rebooted and remade the same movie of the Dark Phoenix.
Also, I'm not sure if you're aware, but there have been numerous published articles listing the dozens of inconsistencies, ridiculous logic gaps, basic plot incongruity, character deviations from movie to movie, and plain nonsensical decisions in the Fox X-Men movies.
Ever.

If the timeline is confusing, there are three:
1) the original timeline, X X2 X3
2) first class timeline, FC DoFP
3) altered timeline, Apocalypse & this
Specifically, Days of Future's Past at the end changed the timeline so that (1) never happens. Jean being alive etc... that erased all those events of the og trilogy.
Apocalypse & Dark Phoenix follow the altered timeline where Raven becomes a hero and the professor abdicates his position.

Hey, girl. You should consider cosplaying as Jean Grey sometime. I bet you’d look fantastic, especially with those natural crimson locks.
So after you watch this Addie, who do you think would win. Jean Grey or Wanda Maximoff? 😄😏
Scarlet Witch beats Marvel Girl. Phoenix beats Scarlet Witch. This isn't even a question.
@@DragonbIaze052in comics phoenix wins but movies wanda wins
Addie only few people can defeat the Phoenix force
Here the link to that movie
The Gifted is another Marvel show that ties to days of the future past and New Mutants
Not really. That is set in an alternate universe.
You can watch New Mutants if YOU would like. No one should tell you what not to watch. I'd like to see a reaction to New Mutants personally.
Same. I actually liked "The New Mutants" and I wish people would stop convincing reactors to skip movies just because they didn't like them. There are people out there who _do_ like them, and we'd like to see reactions to them too.
@@BubblyRainbows Yeah. If you didn't notice, she liked Eternals.
Addie, hope you like the movie Generation X (1995) after the New Mutants movie
You can watch X-men animated series.
I don't think she reacts to animated shows and plus that has tons of seasons
The New Mutants was a good a comic book a long time ago, but the movie ... it's more like another log on the recent bonfire of super vanities.
this is the final X-Men movie under 20th Century Fox cause at that point Disney bought the company and The New Mutants was just a leftover since it kept getting delayed for so long. Deadpool 3 is gonna be part of the MCU in phase 5, and soon after we'll get an X-Men reboot
Rumor is that there isn't going to be a X-Men reboot and that they going to continue with some of the original cast.
And it will be awful
Just look what they did to Xavier
And not to mention what they did to Hulk and Thor

The one thing that never made sense to me is that Jean used "the phoenix" to defeat Apocalypse in the previous movie and yet she only gets the power in this one. It's like they completely ignore earlier events
She sort of has a link with the phoenix, In the apocalypse she basically summoned a fraction of the phoenix force's power. In this one she happened to absorb the Phoenix Force's Physical form which was basically a lot more than she's capable of handling at the moment.
A quick copy paste from Wiki:
Phoenix Force: As the favored and true avatar of the powerful Phoenix Force, Jean may greatly increase her powers by tapping into the omniversal life energies of those yet unborn.
"Phoenix" is just nickname for Jean. It is not a separate entity. The cosmic energy is never even called the Phoenix.
@@agentofchaos7456 Phoenix is a separate entity, it's the Primal Force of Life and Destruction in Marvel Universe.
Charles and other X-men just don't have knowledge of the entity, so they considered it a nickname/personality in X-Men The Last Stand.
You should watch game of thrones
Disney Franchise: The Love Bug 1968 and its sequels please
Enjoying your videos. Your reactions as so genuine You sound like a disappointed mom when ever you said magneto. “Magneto”. “What you do?
What do you mean you're almost done, you still have to watch The Gifted and X-Men: Evolution even if you don't record it
This movie is criminally Underrated.
Another X-Men movie is coming out next year.
@@agentofchaos7456 Thanks for the info!
They need ramsy to beat sansa . They can do this alone 😂
