I loved seeing Colossus’ little sister in live action but the highlight for me is the perfect depiction of Lockheed. It looks exactly like the comics.
I loved seeing lil' Lockheed as well. I'm glad they stuck to Ilyana being a magic wielder as well as having her teleportation powers.
@@jakabok4965 Well, the teleportation is her main thing. She learned magik from the denizens of Limbo. A real place in the comics not some made up realm like the movie. She eventually defeated the ruler of Limbo and became the queen herself. She's pretty awesome. I think the best thing about her is she lead to Colossus becoming the juggernaut.

Thanks for actually watching this one. My least favorite in the x-men franchise was Dark Phoenix, I liked New Mutants more. The only issue I had with this movie was they used a story line that had to show every character's back story. It actually feels like there is more backstory than actual story. It could have actually been executed better as a mini series like Legion rather than as a film.

Like Dark Phoenix, this movie was meant to spawn more sequels
But Disney bought Fox and pulled the plug on the X-Men franchine, so they can introduce them in the MCU
They ordered multiple reshoots, and removed the sequel baits
The real version is probably lying somewhere inside Disney's vault, along with the original cut of Dark Phoenix

Everything ever recorded was 100% Fox material, Disney allowed no extra filming at all and THIS is the REAL version. They called the director (who had given up after Fox screwed up the original movie plans) and told him "you have all this stuff filmed, put it together as you wish", and the man realized the original intended version of the movie
I'm pretty sure that if they released a longer version of Dark Phoenix that could get them charged with crimes against humanity.
With Doctor Strange Across the Multiverse, and 'The Marvels' , the X-Men have been teased.
The kids' fears broke my heart. Illyana was raped repeatedly and I'm guessing by the 18 men she killed. She's a very powerful Marvel mutant btw. She goes on to be "Magik". Then there's Rahne. She was abused and tortured by the church. All the kids' stories are awful. The movie could have been better but the stories are compelling.
but i thought that shadowcat (kitty pryde) had lockheed, not magik. but i haven't read the comics in ages, so they might have retconned some things since then.
@@skapunker21Kitty did have Lockheed, but in some of the more recent ones, they gave him to other people. Though he is more an independent than anything. I believe the latest person he attached to was the baby that Jubilee has taken possession of.
Illyana is Colossus' little sister. The Rasputin family is full of powerful mutants. The storyline when he went looking for her was pretty good. The boy scout turned berserker.
The boys had it marginally easier, Sunspot being racially abused as mixed-race black in Brazil's upper class (his mother is a red-headed American).
Sam merely rescued people from a substandard mine, was recruited by the mine's criminal owner, and left him to join the New Mutants.
Rahne had been violently abused for years, and mentally abused by a blood and thunder preacher, and even by her 'friends', as the X-Men put her on a team of the blade-wielding psychoes, which caused her to be mentally scarred again.
She became a mother, was separated from her baby.
Then she was suddenly beaten to death by teenage boys at a bus stop moments after leaving a team to start her own life.
The character of Roberto Da Costa aka Sunspot also appears in Days of Future Past played by a different actor.

Moonstar (Marage) Started off in th comics making illusions of peoples fears. Roberto is Sunspot, Rhan is Wolvesbane, Illiana is Magik, Sam is Cannonball. Magiks mutant power was only the teleportation disks but her teleporst force her to move though a sub daimnstion called Limbo (a suberb of Hell). She got traped there for a few years and learned magic from a demon lord and then overthrew him. The sword she makes is the soul sword. It is her soul manifested as a weapon.

also one called The Gifted which ran for a couple of seasons on Fox. It's actually not bad imho, although certainly nothing special

Wolvesbaine is probly the weakest of all these characters the others can be almost unstoppable when cannonball is im blast off mode he's impervious and sunspot can melt steal with his energy

No it really isn't. The first volume of New Mutants is still one of my favorite comics, with the Demon Bear Saga being one of the early highlights. This movie completely butchers that story. This is yet another case of Hollywood writers taking a storyline that works and instead of just adapting that, trying to recreate the wheel by doing their own thing and failing horribly. Bad characters, bad writing, bas plot, bad setting. This was just a giant disappointment when it came out, because Illyana has been my favorite character from the time I was 4-5 years old.

The power set of the New Mutants are well known to anyone who has picked up an X-Men comic in their life as the characters are very popular. They were the third generation of Xavier pupils moodily illustrated by Bill Sienkiewicz.
The first generation from 1963 were the classic five: Jean 'Marvel Girl' Grey, Scott 'Cyclops' Summers, Hank 'Beast' McCoy, Bobby 'Iceman' Drake and Warren 'Angel' Worthington.

The basis for this film is the 'Demon Bear Saga', a famous arc from the comics.
Cecilia Reyes, played by Alice Braga, is actually an X-Men ally in the comics.
It's a good companion piece for "Logan" revealing the kind of institution the children were fleeing. Although the Essex Corporation was first shown in the "X-Men: Apocalypse" end-credit scene, one infers that it exists in both timelines explaining how it could be linked to the events of "Logan". Essex Corp. was also featured in "Deadpool 2".
Essex Corp. refers to the classic villain Nathaniel Essex aka Mr. Sinister, a long-lived 19th-century geneticist obsessed with the Summers bloodline.

@@user-le6ex5rc1s This movie was a total mess and Lockheed was Kitty's pet but Anya Taylor-Joy brought this film to life with her performance easily stealing the show, her soulsword looked awesome and I was happy to see Lockheed. I applaud the film for taking a big swing even though it failed spectacularly. My biggest gripes are that they left out Karma, made Reyes a baddie and woefully miscast Dani who looks nothing like her tall, long-legged, Dutch-braided comic counterpart! As a spooky lead-in to "Logan", it does its job but it's the least of the X films.
You clearly didn't read what I wrote. I said the movie is a mess, the least of the X franchise and that it failed spectacularly. Did you not read that? I very much enjoyed Anya Taylor-Joy's performance, the look of her soul-sword, seeing Lockheed and the connective tissue to both timelines. Great reaction Addie, and while I am probably even less fond of horror movies than you are (no, seriously, only my lifelong best friend could get me to watch a real horror movie with her, and thanks to her I've seen two of them) I enjoyed this movie because I was 14 when I started reading the New Mutants comics when they came out, and I read each new issue within a couple of days of it hitting the racks at the convenience store I'd walk past in the morning on the days when I "accidentally" missed the city bus that went right by my school and was late to school because I had to catch the next bus that ran a nearby route so I'd walk from the closest bus stop two miles away. 😀
Danielle's "Demon Bear" storyline in the comics is the very loose basis for this movie, and I enjoyed it. The way they turned the movie into a horror style of storyline did fit in with a lot of the early New Mutants stories. The New Mutants, while part of the Xavier School for Gifted Youths, did play to a lot of darker but very good storylines. They're still my favorite group of comic heroes, and I'm trying to pick up the collections of the storylines I read between when I was 14 and 19, and the ones I missed before I started reading them.
As I said, the movie diverges significantly from the original story, but it also has to introduce the characters and develop them, which often makes kind of a jagged, cluttered story. As scary as a lot of the elements were (and the smiling men were the worst for me having worked with survivors of childhood abuse of the most horrific sorts earlier in my life) they were true in many ways to the feelings I remembered from some of the comics I read. I absolutely get and understand your very negative reaction to it, and I don't blame you one bit for that, but I liked the movie, partly because the comics helped shape my youthful development.
The line at the end is very true too. Which one wins depends on which one you feed. I fed the bad one too often when I was younger. Glad I outgrew that.
I come to Addie's channel and 80 percent of her content is stuff I've never watched or been interested in watching. But that's life under the Addie influence 💯 🤷🏿♂️

Let's give Addie a round of applause for surviving The New Mutants (2020) and for completing the entire X-Men saga. 👏👏 This was the first movie that my girlfriend & I saw in IMAX, after the theaters reopened during the pandemic, and we both actually enjoyed it, due to the film's horror elements, in spite of its quality slump. Like I said before, she & I are horror fans. Those creatures that attacked Illyana & Sam are known as the Smiley Men. To be honest, I actually enjoy Deadpool (2016) & Deadpool 2 (2018) a lot more. BTW, perfect timing for the film's third anniversary.
Another horror movie that features slasher smiles as a horror element is Smile (2022). My girlfriend & I saw it in theaters last September and it was very scary but we did enjoy it. However, I do NOT recommend that movie to you for Halloween because it WILL scare you, like... a lot. A lot more than The Shining (1980) did. A 40-second trailer for Smile (2022) played before Top Gun: Maverick (2022) and if you saw that movie in theaters, you would've closed your eyes and covered your ears when that trailer played.
That you decided to see this in theaters is more problematic for me than the movie itself.
It is a different kind of film than Deadpool 1 and 2 the only thing that is the same is that it is a comic book film l enjoyed Deadpool 1 and 2 and the new mutants

I legitimately don’t know what’s so wrong with this movie. People always say stuff like this but never give specific criticisms. I for one thought it was better than Dark Phoenix and Apocalypse

I remember the reaction when a character said "What a woman knows". I want to see her reaction to discovering Magik's backstory.
While I'm not terribly keen on Magik in this movie, nor in many of her appearances in the comics, I've always found her story to be really cool. Like, in terms of character arc and narrative.
Illyana (Magik) is Colossus' (Piotr) little sister around age 8, who fell through a teleportation portal (her mutant power) she created into a demon plane called Limbo, she was trapped in & then trained to use magic for spell-casting which she barely had any skill with, but she discovered she could turn the magic into a Soulsword & armor to accompany it. She eventually became powerful enough to overthrow Limbo's existing ruler & gained the ability, as ruler in her own right, to return to the world she grew up in moments after she left but now around age 13. (They really should have made her movie first.)
Illyana was lured away from the X-Mansion while visiting Piotr her brother while about 8, she was rescued instantly, but years had passed for her.
Her mutant power of 'stepping discs' that move her in space and time was in effect (she was then physically about 14), but she had studied and learned magic while away.
The complexity of her involvement with Kitty Pryde's pet Lockheed, her soul-sword, the alternative X-men who came to rescue her, her younger self being returned home to Russia, and her death and replacement by an alternative time-stream version, as well as the demons she met in limbo has still to fully play out.
Congrats on finishing this universe.

Cecilia Reyes was a slightly different character when first introduced in the X Men comics.
However!
Her mutation, look, and job choice is identical in this movie, as is her motivation.
I can accept it, as Cecelia never really wanted to fight, only to help.
This placement would be the most logical for her.
A decent teenage horror take on kids not understanding their body changes due to mutation and hormones and how they could be dangerous to the public at large.
It's not teenage Jean Grey with a bad attitude making cars float or Scott accidentally blasting a hole in the ceiling before rapidly gaining control of their powers.
These kids have severe mental and physiological problems that need overcoming.
And the movie went in a unique direction of presenting it as a horror movie from their perspective.
Something you need to know about Dany is that she is able to know evertyone's deepest darkest fears and make them come to life and that is why the bear attacked them because that is her own fear showing it's self. As for Illyana she is the sister to Colossus the one that can change his entire body into metal and he showed up in xmen 2 for a moment. Any way the smilie demons represent the men that took her from her home as a child and forced her into human traficking so they are also the men that forced themselves on her as a child. She is in fact a very powerful mage and even replaced Doctor Strange as the Sorcerer Supreme. Basically the place she goes to is a realm her mind created as a child to escape the horrors and teleport there and the more she stayed there the more she became apart of it and got magic and also the queen of the realm as well. I do like this one despite all the hate that it got from those who have seen it also it was the first time that I saw Anya Taylor Joy acting she plays Illyana here any way it was interesting to see the actress of Arya from Game of thrones here too and again as a character that I liked haha.
I actually forgot that you weren't a fan of horror movies, Addie. Sorry about that. I was hoping you would like this one, but I get that it's not your vibe. I still appreciate you for watching and reacting to it. Several reactors listened to the naysayers and skipped it entirely when doing the X-Men series, which is sad for fans like me. I love that you at least gave it a chance, even after finding out it had horror elements. I'll be here for whatever comes next! ✌🤓
There was so much drama surrounding this movie when it was made and delayed 4, 5 times. I actually liked it more than Dark Phoenix which was unbearable to me. New Mutant to me was just an incomplete movie, missing half its 2nd and 3rd acts. A shame, should and could have been so much better. Actually thought the casting was great. Anya Taylor-Joy has actually expressed interest in playing Magik again. FYI, Magik is Colossus’s little sister from the X-Men and Deadpool movies.

Let's also shout out to the New Mutants comics for giving us Deadpool
- and Domino and Gideon? in the same issue, by Liefeld, though, so in better hands we got two good characters out of it.
Don't forget Legion also comes from the New Mutants book. He got two seasons by himself.
You need to watch 1996 Generation X the movie is the first live action X-Men movie. Generation X is a television pilot directed by Jack Sholder that aired on Fox on February 20, 1996. It was later broadcast as a television film. It is based on the Marvel comic book series of the same name, a spin-off of the X-Men franchise. It was produced by New World Entertainment and Marvel Entertainment Group.

SO much backstory that the producers just ASSUMED all the X-men movie fans would know because...comic nerds, BUT...not the case. I know several X-men comic fans that didn't read New Mutants. I read them month by month in the 80's and LOVED the original storylines.
Big character point...Illyana Rasputin is Peter Rasputin's (Colossus) sister. Her powers are amazing but they come with a price.
So much good backstory but they chose to half-a$$ jump into the middle of them.
They hint at Essex Corp but have yet to show Mr Sinister. Deadpool 2 had Shatterstar, who mentioned Mojo World but not Mojo.
Just a big bucket of missed opportunities.
I think we would have seen Mr. Sinister if Disney didn't scrap the sequels to the ongoing X-men films after acquiring Fox. There was a script that was going to introduce him in the main X-men movie that never came to fruition. Would have been a good big bad for a crossover between the main movies and New Mutants.
I would classify it as tele projection and telepathic. She can read minds and project that from her mind into physical objects. I've never seen this one... but I'm a little shocked at how accurate it is to mutants learning about their powers.... their story arc's however are lacking imo. If you're looking for similar stories I'd take a look at "Inhumans" unless you plan on watching cartoons. There's a ton of stories and content there as well. I did like the Logan nod.

Addie, in the comic books, is the next movie Generation X (1995) it was the first movie made but it comes after this movie following the adventures of Banshee and the White Queen after the movie First Class, and after they inherit the school from the professor

There is one other X-Men live action called Generation X a TV Movie/pilot from 1996 featuring another group of junior X-Men.
So disappointed in this. I was excited for an adaptation of the Demon Bear storyline, and Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams - Anya Taylor-Joy especially - were PERFECT casting choices. And then it turned out to be...this. My fault for getting my hopes up.
Same. I read New Mutants month by month in the 80's. SO different than the regular X-men storylines. I was happy when they merged the teams...then the 90's came and messed it all up.
Essex Corp is headed by Nathaniel Essex aka Mr. Sinister, a villain obsessed with genetics and eugenics. He thinks using mutant DNA he’ll be able to make a perfect humanity.
Essex/Sinister also got referenced in the stinger to X-Men Apocalypse, but the setup was never paid off.
These characters meant a lot to me growing up and I was told to avoid this film because of that. My curiosity has finally gotten the better of me with this reaction tho

In the comics, the character Illyana, is the little sister of Colossus.
While this isn’t a great movie, it is better than most of the other X-movies.
Hahaha. 2 hrs later Addie still siking herself up for a 1 1/2 hr. movie. Like the mutants, you have worked through your fears and survived in the end.
I love most things Marvel, but couldn't make it through this movie. I'll let this play in the background though, for the algorithm. 😁

Warlock;'s remnant from early script drafts is in the film as a black and gold version of Illyana's arm and soul-sword hilt. That's all that's left of him.
Karma was supposed to be there, too, and Juliana in the pool scene. Not enough budget.

Williams is colosus sister and is the reason he joined the xmen in the first place, most people associate Lockheed with kitty pride, and Williams sword is called the soul sword

I was perfectly OK with this being a horror movie, but I really didn't like the reveal of what was going on. The setup was weird and creepy, but the explanation felt kind of lame to me.
BTW, if you want more, non-scary, mutant action, check out the series, The Gifted. It's set in the X-Men universe, but follows every day mutants who are being persecuted because of their powers. It lasted two seasons on Fox.

In 1982, Marvel wanted a second X-Men book, and it was so good it out-sold the X-Men. Then it was ruined and cancelled. Some remember the glory days.
This movie is horrible, definitely the worst Fox has made with mutants. But to clarify what Dani's powers are, she can create real images of what's in her mind and other people's minds, not just their fears. In the comics, she also communicates with animals and can generate psionic energy weapons.
Originally she seemed able to create illusions of future events as well (the murder of her grandfather), but perhaps she was reading her grandfather's own knowledge.
Then her power was illusions of greatest fears and heart's desires (famously she distracted a guard with visions of women and another with the Easter bunny); then with a boost from a mad scientist, she could create one 'real' object, usually a spear-shaped necklace, but once a Porsche speedster, then a fake driving licence when a cop stopped her.
She also made a real mare, which made her winged horse dump her and chase the mare (his heart's desire).
All in the same issue of the comic.
There's a fan theory that she re-made her parents as well, but...

Illyana? Those of us that have read the comics know her well, but the movies don't mention his last name. He barely got called Peter in X2.
This wasn't one of my favorites. Seemed disorganized or something.
There is a short lived series that was called The Gifted. Also with a new generation of mutants. I enjoyed it, was really sad it didn't last longer. If you can find, it could be good for reacting
If you don't know anything about The New Mutants characters from the comics, this movie is bad.
However, if you know the characters and enjoyed the comic, then this movie is ruttin' awful.
There's literally one decent thing about this movie: Anya Taylor-Joy's casting as Illyana (Magik). Her attitude and look is spot-on. However, the dialogue and direction she had to convey...not so much. Illyana is short-tempered and standoffish, but the movie portrays her as outright murderous...and also weirdly racist, which are both ridiculous.
Everything else was a gorram dumpster fire.
Anja is about two feet too tall to be Illyana, but I get your point. ;-) Blu is about a foot too short, and Henry is about a foot too tall. ;-)
I feel all the X-Movies since First Class have been a parallel where Moira McTaggart never helped Xavier make it all a success, as she does in the comics.
I actually enjoyed this one. But I am a big New Mutants comic fan. It's not a great adaptation, but I think they did fine with what they had to work with. This movie was a casualty of Disney buying Fox, which definitely hurt it with the reshoots. Anya Taylor Joy is fantastic in this though.

Disney did not allow reshoots at all. They considered a small session, but never executed.
Everything ever recorded was under Fox management and Disney actually HELPED this movie, for Fox ordered an almost COMPLETE rewriting after not liking where the movie was going (and had filmed already). The help arrived by calling back in the original director and telling him "you have all this footage, put it together as you wish", and we got the original and intended version of the movie

This wasn't the best movie, it was decent but could have been way better. The only character I was familiar with before seeing it was Sam Guthrie aka Cannonball. To be entirely honest, this didn't feel like an Xmen movie to me at all. It was more horror than comic book.
Next franchise is the DCU universe

It is made from the new mutants horror comic, most horror movies are under 2 hours, i would like to see you react to actual horror movies, which I always think that people like you. Not very good horror movies but want to try for their subscribers on UA-cam should watch slashers like , Scream first
'The New Mutants' comic, bask when it was the most successful comic Marvel published, was many things; a school story, a superhero team, a teen romance, it was copied by DC as 'The New Teen Titans', it was Science Fiction, Horror, Urban Fantasy, a parallel to an anime named 'Urutsukidoji', and even a simple vehicle for Liefeld's 'amazing' new characters like Deadpool, Domino and Gideon shortly before cancellation.

I don't see any sequels here, but maybe some of these characters might appear in future X-Men movies. I do like some of these characters, but the movie was... not good.
Personally I only liked the character Magic (the queen's gambit actress) in it...they can do a whole movie only about her and I would see it. The rest was like meh....
This movie wasn't nearly as bad as some people say. Could have been better, sure, and I really wish they had committed more to the horror thing and just tried to lean into it, giving us an actual horror movie, instead of this... comic book... kinda superhero movie.. with horror elements. However, it's still a better film overall than Apocaylpse, Dark Phoenix, or X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
I actually doing mind this film to much, it's not great by any means, but given the delays / reshoots I was expecting something a lot worse

A sequel would have really helped and it looked like that was their intention...but ticket sales due to the delays did NOT help this movie.
This movie didn't get good reviews, but I enjoyed it. Probably because I read the comics. I wish they had cast someone other than Maisie Williams. I don't think it was a good role for her.
All of the actors, in my opinion, are not physically similar to the comic's characters, except possibly Charlie Heaton (and he needs much bigger ears to be Sam Guthrie).
But these characters are variants anyway, as Xavier prevented Moira McTaggart from being involved back in X-Men: First Class, which distorted the movies away from the comics in an enormous way.

Feel so sorry for her. When she started this X-Men journey, there was so much optimism and excitement. There were some highs and some lows, but the fact of the matter is, she ended it not with a bang, but with a whimper 😢
This was the 13th and final X MEN movie Fox produced after they were bought out by Disney. It was a box office and critical disappointment msking $37 million dollars against a $60 million dollar budget, killing any chances of more X MEN movies, yet they will mske an appearance in the MCU.

1- This movie wasn't produced "after" Disney bought Fox, Disney simply allowed this movie to EXIST at all by calling back the director (who had given up after Fox ordered a massive re-writing and reshooting session as they didn't like what the original version was going to be like) and granting him full freedom on what to do with the footage left from Fox's filming. That's how we got the original version of the movie instead of an horror-free version like Fox wanted!
2- "Box office bomb"... this was one of the FIRST movies released in EARLY COVID ERA, you have any idea how many cinemas in the world were working at all, and how limited the rooms were, in term of public?? OF COURSE it could not be a success... 😑
3- The X-Men franchise was over just from Disney buying Fox, this movie's box office had ABSOLUTELY ZERO influence on the decision. Disney had bought Fox SPECIFICALLY (among other things) to get the Mutants back and make their MCU versions!!

I normally don't watch reactions to films I haven't seen. But I figured I would use Addie to finish the FoX-Men films. And halfway through the reaction I remembered that I had actually seen this one before. I just forgot all about it because it bored me and there's nothing worse a movie can be than boring.

X-Men tie in, Illyana's brother is an X-Man Piotr Rasputin is Colossus . I thought this movie was okay, nice to see the characters portrayed. They did a fairly good job with Dani, Illyana, and Rahne, but fell far short on the two male characters. Both needed more screen time esp Sam, who as Cannonball will end up as team leader. They give no hint of him being leader material here. And the concept of making this into a horror movie is very questionable.
This is one of those bad adaptation movies. Didn't like it either.
Now you know all about the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men. There's one more team that I recommend: Fantastic Four
