  • Brook Trout Ice Fishing Ontario - Sight Fishing Trout on Early Ice
    In this episode of The Average Joes Fishing show, Brendan and Lyle grinded hard for two days of fishing, in hopes of landing some first ice Brookies through a big sight fishing hole.
    On day two of our adventure we had a couple of our UA-cam friends tag along with us for the second half of the video. Mr. & Mrs. Freak of Nature, Teunis and Brittany. If you're interested in seeing their take on Day 2 of this video, I highly recommend it. They make amazing content and record and edit the BEST content. Nice fish guys. I like the first lake because it is always a walk to get on the ice. Keeps most people away while the second is too accessible. It is a nice part of eastern Ontario.

      I was surprised, the first lake we could’ve almost drove to with the lack of snow! Second one was also easy to get to also! Definitely beautiful country!

      Thanks a lot Rod!! Ice is thickening up lots! Hasn’t been a great year for consistency on the cold though!

    Great fish! You should probably have some pliers or hemostats on hand though.

      We do normally have them on us, but with stocked trout it’s not as much of a worry because if they’re hooked bad we just eat them 👍🏻 The first one would’ve been a goner with pliers either way, it inhaled the rattle bait! Definitely a good call though to have them handy, always is added help with unhooking fish!

      These were all stockers, fishing the previous year stock. They tend to stock every other year and we were targeting 2 year old fish!

      nice... normally where we fish, 1 of the front pectoral fin is usually snipped off for stockers@@TheAverageJoesFishingShow

    Brookies and bows are extremely shallow feeders in winter

  • @aaronsturgeon8899

    Being that its not January 1 yet I’m guessing that’s an “open all year” lake for brookies? Or is this last year content?

    • @TheAverageJoesFishingShow
      @TheAverageJoesFishingShow  8 місяців тому +2

      These were both “open all year” lakes yes! There’s probably over 50 of those lakes or more in zone 15.

    5” honeycomb 🫤

    • @TheAverageJoesFishingShow
      @TheAverageJoesFishingShow  8 місяців тому +1

      It was definitely not 5” of solid black ice sadly, this year has had a lot of freeze and melt cycles. It was about 3” of white ice and 2” of black below. But it was plenty safe for walking, wasn’t cracking below us at all actually. And we make sure to always check when moving around the lake. Plus it helps that we were fishing in sub 5ft of water. Definitely just have to fish on what you’re comfortable with and each guy will be different in that sense. I appreciate the concern though!
