Don't do it aggressively cause you will remove your enamel
I usually do that to find my social security card at 3 AM
Plaque is soft and sticky and comes off with your finger.
A soft head brush and gentle removal is best.
Avoid hard brushes or brushes with bits of plaque on the side.
If it has hardened, go to your hygienist for a scale and polish.
Can't stress this enough - never brush hard.

Pretty sure you’ve seen it several times, but brushing too hard or too long can damage or even remove your enamel. Which is very important for your teeth.
Just make sure that you keep consistency in your brushing, that you’re being mindful of what you’re using and you should be fine.
The bottom row are just bone cysts... fasinating what sugar and processed foods had done to humanity. Back inntime they didnt have this problem since sugar wasnt invented and they ate harder foods making there teeth stronger

Depression IS a mental illness. And you’d be surprised. As both a person with depression and a doctor specializing in treating it, this is incredibly accurate, unfortunately. Because depression weighs you down and constantly tries to convince you that you don’t deserve to live, you don’t deserve to look or feel good, you don’t deserve anything, and at the same time takes all your energy and motivation, it becomes more and more impossible to do simple every day things like showering or bushing your hair or teeth 😢 depression is the worst!

Yep and there is so little bone left for the denture. The person has to use a denture adhesive to make the denture stay in place.

The majority of people with severe plaque and dental health issues are either poor, unable to afford dental care, consume copious amounts of sugar throughout the day, or simply choose to not brush their teeth.

I have so much respect for you. One of the worst smells I've ever smelled was rotting flesh from a rescue cat that came to the animal clinic that I worked at. It had an abscess from another cat bite and that thing popped when we were trying to clean it. Worst thing I've ever smelled several techs puked.
yeah I have a neighbor who has an older dog his teeth are bad they can't do a dental cause he has a VERY bad heart murmur and they don't want to risk him dying during a dental. If he didn't have the heart issue they would do the dental.
There was a stray cat sitting in my garden. Looked pretty sick and salivated. Took him to the vets office onl to find out that the old untreated wound that he had in his mouth just rot up his mouth, nose, sinuses to his head. Also the smell. Moment I smelled it I knew thigs were not looking good. Rotting flesh smell is the worst

I got super lucky with my teeth. For the majority of my childhood I didn’t brush my teeth, and I wasn’t allowed to go to the dentist either. My teeth are stained, and I’ve had a few cavities as an adult (never had one as a child, except for when I was 17) that I’m sure are the aftermath of not brushing my teeth as a kid. I’ll take that over deformed, cavity filled teeth that are falling out any day.

My friend has depression and a lot of mental conditions and he hasn't brushed his teeth in three years and I understand it's hard but no matter what solutions I offer to try to help make it easier for him to do it once in a while he refuses to try. I'm very passionate about it because I have very fucked up teeth from not taking care of them and amalready missing 5 teeth at 21 years old with more still dying. I can't fix them faster than they're breaking. He's 20 and I know it's going to hurt his confidence so much more if he starts losing his teeth like I have and constant dentist appointments to fix them would be almost impossible for him because he is afraid to leave his house. He gets angry if I try to express this and my concern, so I'll leave him be and whatever happens to his teeth just happens I guess. I'm just sad I can't help him take care of his teeth because he only has them once and I don't want his confidence to suffer as a result

@mee maw It really does. I've been depressed for a while now and it really affects your ability to take care of your hygiene. I'm still really struggling with my mental health but I've started to try more.
It's been years of me brushing my teeth like once every 5 months. I always knew that I should brush my teeth but I put it off saying I would do it the next night. Somehow my teeth stayed pretty healthy except for one cavity I got a while back. I'm finally starting to do better, however.
What helped me was getting an electric toothbrush and I started brushing my teeth inside my bedroom (of course going to the bedroom to spit and wash out my mouth.) My main motivations were seeing these videos recommended to me and having a boyfriend who I cherish more than anything. He deserves the world and he deserves to be able to kiss his partner without dealing with disgusting breath.
Just a suggestion of what I would do coming from someone that was in the position of your friend. Buy them an electric toothbrush if you have the funds. Depressed people often feel like burdens to others. Getting them an electric toothbrush can make them feel guilty that you bought them such an expensive gift because you care about their personal health and they aren't going to use it. It is manipulative but i think more good than harm comes from it.
Of course this is only a suggestion. You aren't responsible for them, they know what they are doing is wrong and harmful and it's their job to overcome their habits. It's just a recommendation though

I have depression and sometimes it’s very very difficult for me to take care of myself (showering, eating, brushing, etc..) but as soon as I saw this I suddenly felt the need to do more with myself..I don’t know if I’ll even do anything, but thanks for the itty bitty ounce of motivation! 😅😂
I have the same problem, and this also helped me into making sure I brush my teeth more.

Periodontal disease. You don’t necessarily have to have tooth decay to lose the surrounding bone… nasty condition
