Storybook Cottage By The Sea

- This small fantasy cottage by the ocean is one that you have to see to believe. Located directly on the shoreline of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, this fairytale tiny home is built from natural materials using old-fashioned techniques to deliver a home which looks as though it has fallen from the pages of a storybook.
Inside, the home is surprisingly contemporary, making this not only a visually stunning architectural marvel, but also a practical dwelling designed to include all the creature comforts.

how do you not have an oven in a house like this??? how then do you bake pies and cakes and biscuits as you sing to the forest creatures who are cleaning your house???
can always have a bbq grill to bake, or an outside kitchen with an earthen stove, etc,
Love your comment hahaha
The cottage needs a witch 🤣
how then do you bake hensel and gretel?
and eat all those children... ha ha... amazing!
I’d love to see an entire village like this
There's a place in my community that would be perfect for a community like this!
Which place? Which country?
Me, too!! It reminds me of Marie Antoinette's *petit trianon*
Theres a madly beautiful Village in Wales UK where 'The Prisoner' was filmed.
Portmerrion.
Same thought came into my mind....🥺
OMG this is the most gorgeous tiny house in the most gorgeous location ever. He should grow a beard and say he is a wizard. Straight from a fairy tale. Absolutely enchanting!
🤣🤣
Exactly right 😇♥️⛈🌟🍁
Totally agree, and wear a long robe, sit outside, look out at the sea in a very wise and patient manner.
But he hasn't got an oven so where will he put hansel and gretel?
🤣🤣🤣
Bryce is the best host so humble and engaging.
Amazingly beautiful.💙💙💙
Agreed... i love his energy and passion
Love this Absolutely Gorgeous......
Maybe because he's always technically the guest; and the guest the host.
I agree his passion and sincerity of heart comes through as a very genuine authentic caring narrator.
So charming, but I don't think I could live with the eternal disappointment that the forest creatures were not coming in to clean my house, though.
lol! You will just have to invest in some "fairy dust", Kellie
gotta practice on your singing....
Lol good one
Hahahhahahaaa :D
Everybody's greedy these days... even the garden gnomes want $15/hour to just stand there.
FORGET ABOUT THOSE LARGE MILLION DOLLAR HOMES. THIS IS PHENOMENAL.
This is a million dollar home...
@Friendly Neighborhood Moron Same as the U.S.
@Friendly Neighborhood Moron - Not a lot of people aware of things!
@Jake Sangria - You serious? LOL
@Jake Sangria - *BIPOLAR MUCH?* 😂❤️😂❤️😂❤️😂❤️😂❤️
I live on Mark Lane, just across the water from where this home is built. It was fantastic to learn more about it as I've been by it many times in various boats. Thank you!
Gary, you're so lucky!! The view must be spectacular.
What country?
Canada
Imagine being lost and coming “upon this cottage in the night.
....when you are high.
@@johnware6272 😂
My mind would instantly go to the witches home in Hanzel & Gretel !
@@johnware6272 lol haha now that would totally flip you out!🤔😭😰
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It needs a garden with flowers and a garden growing food. Grow your own veggies and fish, bake your own bread and your set.
You can grow fish?
He can't do any baking because he doesn't have an oven.
That's what I was thinking. I would hsve some pretty little flower garens and i would put some pretty little light fixtures in it . Maybe some different colored ones made out of glass . Purple, green , and maybe yellow light fixtures would be so pretty at night .
@@hahap2644 No oven. How can you cook Hansel & Gretel?
@@Bob-jm8kl He still has a stove top for that lol
That really is phenomenal, and the stonework at the front is adorable. The interior is.. an actual living space, and a very attractive one at that. "So disappointed in the interior" -- oh please! Do you expect the guy to live his daily life perched on a toadstool?
Precisely. The interior is just fine, nothing wrong with it at all. I'd move in tomorrow.
Nobody said the man had to live on a toadstool, you sour thing. They're just saying that the interior is so different from the exterior.
Evakatrina a Yes. We really wanted to see that.
Beautiful home in and out. The owner loves it too.
@Marten Dekker wonderful home inside too.
He never install an oven as he was scared the witch from hansel and gratel would bake him in the oven 😂
😄
A house made out of split wood surrounded by pines . . . just a microwave please, and no sented candles ! :-)
Jaaa😂😂 ich musste auch sofort an Hänsel und Gretel denken.👍👍😍
@@SeaJay_Oceans Seriously. I would be terrified of an oven in this home
@@bonniehowell4259 Ok, how about a toaster oven / microwave ? :-)
This is the first video I've ever watched on this channel, but I have to say that the host does a spectacular job. He's very enthusiastic about the house and articulates his observations really effectively. Makes for a great watch!
I want one. I am a Fairy Godmother. Have been for decades. It's time.
Lynda True haha cute!
Awe I need one of those lol
Yes!! May that happen!!
Awwww, wish I had one of those
Yes Lynda
That roof must have been absolute HELL to shingle.
First thought!!
Well its not shingle its shake so yeah
@@brainwashingdetergent4128 either way.. You go do it and tell me it didn't suck lol.
Because of the pitch of the roof, I cannot even begin to imagine the cost. $$$$$
True craftsman welcome the challenge of creating something unique.
The practicality of the inside perfectly balances the whimsical exterior. It's all about the Yin and Yang. Easily the world's best tiny house!
I would build an outdoor, Stone pizza oven. Would be perfect.
I was thinking about that to
Yes I need an oven.
It's kind of weird how on one end he's living in a tiny cottage but on the other end he's clearly a multi-millionaire. That is some *prime* real estate right there.
Nik Murphy I thought that too. Nothing frugal about it.
Sometimes you just want to downsize, regardless of means
For someone rich, it's a novelty, like going camping. It's fun to be simple, but they know anytime they really want something, they can go buy it. It's an option, not forced.
Even the Palace of Versailles had the Queen's Hamlet, which Marie Antoinette used to go to and pretend to be poor, but in an idealistic setting. It's a thing.
For a price of 170 000 Dollars you don't need to be a multi millionaire. 😂
In Romania, near the city of Sibiu, we have a lovely place that resemble this. Is called the Valley of Fairy. It is an amazing place.
I just checked out the Clay Castle of the valley of the Fairies, because you got me curious. It is a really pretty place.
Eww...I would love to see it in person . Love places like that !!
@@bettieowl7895 I just did the same thing! It does look amazing! Would love to go there one day! Thanks for sharing other lady 🤗
Yes, it almost looks like the village in The Lord of the Rings.
Yes very beautiful place. Thank You for the info.
This is the best tiny house that I have seen! Small in size but certainly isn't short on character, style, whimsy and charm. Absolutely magical!
Whimsical and magical on the outside, practical and functional in the inside. Such a lovely house!
Never been so disappointed to see the inside of a fairy-tale cottage before.
I feel bad but I agree 😬
Im with you 100 percent. Bilbo would never live there.
That's because you grew up in the Disney World
Needs a “woman’s” touch. 🙌🏼
@@cynthiaragan4806 you mean a dirty filthy witch ?
I would wrap fairy lights around all the trees in different colours and all over the house exterior. It would look like a fairy cottage at night. Great cottage.
I'd also add more plants and flowers a veggie garden, a couple milk goats and 6 or so chickens, but then he probably wouldn't be able to have it right there on that particular lake.
@@lisasaunders4381 it's not a lake, it's the ocean. To grow veggies you'd have to use boxes. The land in this part of the island is pretty solid rock and what soil there is, is pretty salty. The Arbutus tree is a sign that the soil isn't particularly great.
@@lisasaunders4381 not really room or the conditions for milk goats, or for chickens.
When i saw this thumbnail, i had to go “click”
Me too,fascinating! 😁👍
I love the creativity each homeowner/builder puts into their home. This is my favorite by far! I love the appreciation, wonder and delight you show in the homes and in the work done by the people who create them!
I just think the bedroom should have big windows with that stunning view of the river it would be awesome
Nicole Silva exactly I think so too
Nicole Silva i was thinking the same thing.
It's at the ocean
He prob doesnt linger in bed in am..
agreed. a window in the bedroom would be incredible!
$175,000 is a phenomenal price for such a labor intensive design. Lovely. I am envious.
I love how simple the house is in the inside despite how fairy tale-like the exterior is. Definitely can see myself living there.
Darling little house. Using natural, local materials really adds to its beauty.
In a day and age of deplorably utilitarian architecture, it is a joy to see the improvisation and creativity that went into this home.
And my president is one who loves building those monstrosities the most yet he got elected in this day and age people had the gall to even act surprised that he pulled us out of the Paris accord so it made it a bit easier on him to say coal is good buy it from my friend Robert Murray.
And called being rich as FUCK
This is not 1960, there are LOTS of less than utilitarian buildings going up weekly. And regarding this fantasy cottage, look up online "Cinderella Cottage," I guess you'll be shocked at just how many have been built throughout the U.S..
Oh I wanted big comfy chairs around the fireplace. With cozy blankets and hot cocoa. And big old books. And plush rugs. And a kettle with a hearty corn stew. Come on dude.
that would be nice, if he had a wife to share it with..🌹🕯🖤
edit: tea and surtido cookies..
He does have a wife, but hes a boring money type.
I love that interior. He's a man not a grandma.
Gladys Mba He’s a grandpa
*You're not the only one UTTERLY and COMPLETELY disappointed by the interior. Come the fuck on, dude. Holy shit.*
By the comments I was expected to be disappointed by a cold inside but no I think it's great! The wide natural floor boards, the green and wooden kitchen, stone and iron elements with warm lighting I love it!
I was very disappointed with the inside. It was not whimsical at all, it looked actually quite boring, unimaginative, and datable.
T'was a dream cottage of everyone including myself. Just like a cottage in a story book. Love it
This biggest feature of this house is actually the scenery and the architecture. The inside is comfortable and modern. I like it.
Ever so charming! I actually like the clean lines inside. I think I would grow tired of a whimsical interior. Best of both worlds; perfection, I say! Cheers!
It really needs some enchanting flowers and ivy growing around it.
@7:28 it looks like there is ivy on the light fixture.
Not the same I know - but something!
I lived 4 years without an oven but the electric roasters work great. I’ve made bread, pies, everything in mine during that time. Even hosted a thanksgiving dinner for 20 with no oven and all the fixings
A big smile broke out on my face just seeing it. It's a precious home.
Likewise just seeing this has made my day
I’m kind of disappointed that the inside isn’t as whimsical as the outside. What a shame that there aren’t more windows to enjoy the beautiful view.
I thought the same thing! I would have windows on every wall.
Walk outside😜
You couldn’t have big windows and have the charming exterior
What windowns are for ,IF U JUST CAN STEPP OUTSIDE LOLLLLLLLL
spent evrything on the outside style and really over did it on the roof. inside looks like an outdated mobile home .....
Omg... Just seeing this home makes me have a feeling of euphoria!! It makes me think of sugar and spice and everything nice. To open the front door every morning to see this peaceful yet tranquil view is beautiful!! To be in such a place of beauty should make anyone want to get rid of everything or anyone that is toxic in your life. You can go sit on a yoga mat and meditate, pray and feel the breeze. There is nothing wrong with being a minimalist. I love it!!
I love it! As far as people riding by, they're just enjoying your lovely home! I love it !!
The mix of whimsical and practical makes this house an interesting one, indeed. There have been many fairy tale sorts of structures on this channel that look incredibly impractical to the point that it wouldn't age well or one might get annoyed by the styling long term.
If I ever went for something this fantastic I, too, would want something with an everyday livability to it.
Like the Yin and the Yang, there is a balance to everything.
Bilbo approves this house!
Bilbo would want an extended pantry for sure.
I want a Bilbo house lol :p
Bilbo would prefer a hole in the ground.
The dwarfs and elves in the woods around are surely very satisfied with this building...
Love it!
Thanks for sharing
Was out paddling this aspect of the inlet yesterday and this home really put a smile on all our faces. Lots of giggling and appreciating of whomever dreamt this up and to those who actually built it. It looks like a cob house, but obviously is not according the the owner. Paddling our shorelines, we often see tasteless mansions that cause way to many trees to be destroyed and much reshaping of the mountainsides. Too often ugly homes that are built by people with no appreciation for the land, too much money and no taste. They are built for the view out their windows, with no consideration of what they look like from the water, which is usually an ostantatious cancerous growth on a once vibrant living old forest. This was a most pleasant surprise. A real classic to say the least. Congratulation to the owner and builders who did such a great job.
OMG I want to live there! I am baffled at so many dislikes on this video. This house is spectacular! The view, the fireplace, great kitchen.
You would................
My Opinion! ???
Jealous people.
@@TwistedArtdesigns: I think he means that because of your name, you're probably and 'artsy' type of person, so of course you'd like the 'artsy-looking' house!
I agree!
He's such a lovely man with such a lovely home. Breathtakingly beautiful setting ❤️
So fortunate to live in this location in such a divine original home like this. ❤️
This house is so awesome!!! I wish I could move in!!!! It's so beautiful what an amazing job to the people who built it ❤️!!!!!
I just haven't the words to describe how beautiful your home and location is.
Paradise achieved my friend.
I wish you rainbows.
Love rainbows....🌲🌲🌲🌿🌿
I missread that as eyebrows.
I love the outside. At least twice he said about the inside, "not whimsical, but practical". If I were going to build a house that looked like a fantasy on the outside, I would do the same inside. It loses the magic in the stark transition.
If you have never heard of Comstock Cottages, Google it. They are beautiful, whimsical small houses mainly built in Carmel-By-The-Sea.
💯
Not when you get older, you want comfort, at least I do and I'm old!
At least hes aware of it and acknowledged it beforehand.
I guess that's why it is not your house.......
Add a counter top toaster oven or a souvee (all in one cooker) if you want a 1-2 serving oven bake/cook food. I’d been using toaster oven and microwave forever, I have a oven but barely ever use it, maybe 1x a year and don’t miss it. Solution!
I see you. have stovetop burners, I do use those on my oven. Love how you blend the environment and use local crafts people for building such a lovely charming home! Thanks for inviting us into your home, just lovely and great views!
That location is everything. What a beautiful view to wake up to everyday.
I need more light personally. More windows!
Amelia McGee Yup, I’d need WAY more light than that...
The price you pay for a fancy roof!
"I've never lived in a structure of this size before"
*watches from 259 sq ft studio apartment*
I'd love to have a cottage just like that, both in size (I currently live in a 208 s.f. studio) and style. The island would be a bonus, but I'd be just fine living in the woods, too, loving trees as much as I do :-)
someone who knew proper cooking uses stove as a oven.....life hack 101

What a beautiful magical tiny house..just love it...the place is so stress free.ty Bryce for having this.
IT'S TRULY LOVELY !!! BUT SOOOOO DARK !
I love these tiny homes. I'm remodeling my single wide mobile home and get many awesome ideas from these videos. I may live in a box but it's my Fairy Tale box 😍
The house is soo adorable, but it kind of looks like a Disneyland cottage. I ant believe the location tho! What it needs is a very small scale Frank Lloyd Wright creation,
One of my favorite childhood places was a single-wide mobile home, which was full of amazing treasures: arrowheads, sparkling geodes, venus fly-trap plants, goldfish in bowls, and baby goats outside. I LOVED these people & this place. I'm 40 now, & was 8 when they were in our lives, & never forgot them.
Just in case you ever wonder if it's worth it to continue transforming your trailer into a fairy tale. ❤️
You go gf!
I love your positive attitude
Im planning on converting a mobile home into a witches cottage on my property away from our main house here in Georgia about 45 mins away from Atlanta.

I keep coming back to this video, a labor of creativity, vision and love....
It's really cute, but to dark inside for my liking. But as long as he is happy with it, that's the main thing :)
I thought the home would be light, light colours, light furniture like a fairytale. The real inside is a huge disappointment.
It's a darling cottage, but it's too dark inside for my liking, especially with the spectacular exterior views.
Just mesmerizing! The view, the lake and the house itself. You can just keep looking outside all day. Space is well crafted to make it practical. It is a beautiful combination of Fairy tales and real world :)
Well said, it has all the fantasy elements on the exterior while remaining a wonderful and practical home.
@Darlene Sjostrom The Malahat!
I know. I'm from Victoria. Finlayson Arm is the southern part of Saanich Inlet and this cottage is at the bottom of Aspen Road, about 4 km up from the northern boundary of Goldstream Park, where I used remember grade school field trips to that park to watch the salmon spawn and die and watch the seagulls have a field day. I also remembered the bloody stench.
This is part of the joy of being from the Pacific North West. I was born and raised here and the area is rich with works of art like this. I cannot imagine being content with a rubber stamp house.
Truly breathtaking. This cottage is real eye candy.
Location, location, location. Wow, what a view. What a house!💖

Oh.My.Word. Those shingles are off the charts!! You're right Bryce. It really does look like it jumped off the pages of a fairy tale! I half expect Snow White to open the door 🤣 Love love love love. Thanks for yet another superb video.
The owner must be a dirty old man in mind 1 Snow white ! Huh ? When he came out of the house, I said he really did not belong here ! But he had $170 ,000 ! So he own this house. George Wu, AIA, ARCHITECT, NCARB 2017-9-7
It is a beautiful house ! Very romantically designed ! I loved it ! George Wu, AIA, ARCHITECT, NCARB 2017-9-7
He's waiting for the other six dwarves to move in. ;^)
denise fletcher Did you see the chimney? A toadstool!
Why would he have to be a dirty old man? Boys are read fairy tales too when they're young, and there's nothing gendered about this house. Men wrote those fairy tales. They sprung forth from men's imaginations! Why would it be so hard to imagine that a guy would want this place because he liked it, dreamt of it, and nothing more! There are enough perverts in the world without imagining decent men as the same.
Magnificent cottage, felt like I'm living from the fairytale, my imagination was intense, so so so beautiful. Thanks to the owner and to Bryce and Rasa for sharing this video.

Ay another Canadian Tiny house, this has to be one of the most unique houses you've featured.
It certainly is! I couldn't believe this place when I saw it.
Living Big In A Tiny House This is my favourite - and I have seen LOADS on YT now! Amazing!
Well, beautiful is, unique not. To me, it is simply a miniature replica of a project designed by Architect. Irina Mavrodin, built in 2014, In Romania, Castelul de Lut, Valea Zanelor, search Google for pictures)
Ah so there was a clear source of inspiration, interesting. The Castelul de Lut doesn't have a modern interior however haha
No, I was wrong. I apologize. The owner answered to another post of mine saying that this project was from 2010, which I checked and confirmed (found it cited in a 2014 video). However, my quick search brought up several earlier projects very similar to this, including one in California nearly identical which seemed to be from the 70s. My guess is that the whimsical style has been favored also by the hippies, and the inspiration came indeed from the storybook illustrations.
The Architecture is so beautiful. Reminds me of. A Gingerbread house/ fairytale home to many stories.
Outdoor furniture made of willow would be the icing on the cake!
It is like the Comstock houses of Carmel, California. Love it.
