Love it. Much better then "modern" architecture, showing it can be done today. These are the kinds of buildings people like to visit and live. The only flaw i give it, its how traffic is done. The rest, is amazing and shown it can be done. Even if the place is "depressing" (not saying it is), this architecture makes it like a lighthearted place.
Morning Steve, really enjoyed this video👍, must say I do look forward to watching your videos you give us so much interesting information on the places you visit, looking forward to many more, keep up the good work 👍☺️☺️
Nice to watch your video in deckchair on Mallorca, and you filming in North western Europe 😅 I return to Denmark Saturday, and you going back here☀️☀️☀️ have a great family time 😊👍🏻
Hi Steve, fascinating , never been to that part of the country, I wonder how the residents feel living there, it must have been strange to get used to, thanks again for bringing new things for us to see 👊
I drive through there a couple of times a week, never had a look around but it always gives the impression of being overly ostentatious and not particularly homely. It would be good to hear how people living there feel about it.
The Dorchester locals call it Charlieville. It's killed Dorchester town centre, traffic is an absolute nightmare and local councillor's are applying for city status, a vanity project if there ever was one. Still, lots of charity shops in Dorchester town
@@SteveandAnitainMallorca it reminds me of places in China when they try and build huge areas in a European style and then nobody lives there. I live close to Nansledan on the edge of Newquay in Cornwall, which is also a Prince Charles Duchy built village and its very similar in that it feels completely different to what surrounds it and there's very little in the way of plant life, its not a particularly nice place to be. But at least the Duchy can make some more money off the back of the lower classes.
I think one problem is it's a bit sterile. While it's great there are so many trees, I was expecting more greenery (shrubs, and flowers and could even use more trees). Esp. seeing as it's prince Charles' project.
“The past 40 years or so” what even mate it’s like 20 years old but 60% last 8-5 years it’s not wisely designed for the local area it is cheek by jowl living and has worsened Dorchester
All the local tradesmen call it PoundLand. I've worked in them since the beginning. Build quality Is absolutely shocking, I've worked on houses that are 18 months old and the exrerior woodwork is totally rotten due to only using unseasoned softwood throughout. I feel sorry for a lot of my high end customers as they believe they've moved from prestige areas and houses to something of the same quality and they soon find out how wrong they were. I'd say 75% of my poundbury customers have moved down from London, no one else would've got away with building this development.
I have visited a couple of time and thought it a strange place. It doesn't seem ti fit in with the Dorset countryside, or its neighbouring town of Dorchester. Interesting to read your comments about the buit quality. Thanks for your comment.
Thanks Steve it’s just that the Dorchester residents get really upset that Poundbury think they are not part of Dorchester in fact they are just a district of the town and in fact have not been welcomed by the residents of the town and have destroyed the shops in the high St offering much cheaper rent and this blot on the landscape built on green farm land and within site of the largest hill fort in Europe should never been allowed.
Stayed a night at the Duchess of Cornwall hotel earlier this year - it was lovely!
We call in for a drink when we are passing through.

We drove past on Sunday but didn't have time to call in to see what has changed.
This place is just amazing I love it so much love the architecture! The old town is lovely too I did my driving test there xxx
It is certainly a special place.
Great looking buildings a nice place to visit
I'll have to see it for myself sometime
Keep safe and well
It really is an interesting place.
Hi steve , looks a great place and nice wide roads , you do find the places to visit .many thanks for the video 🙏😊
Glad you enjoyed it Ian.
What a fascinating place, we really must visit there, thanks for showing us.
It's a different world Sandra.
Nice Buildings. thanks
Thanks Mehri, it's a fascinating place.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday.
Does look nice but really strange that there's no road markings.
Keep safe
It's a very interesting concept and I do like the architecture, but it does seem out of place in the Dorset countryside.
I am not a number! Looks very nostalgic, not surprising given who's involved. Maybe everyone should travel by horse? Great vid, thanks 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Steve, fascinating , never been to that part of the country, I wonder how the residents feel living there, it must have been strange to get used to, thanks again for bringing new things for us to see 👊
It is very close to the old town of Dorchester, which is a busy little town.
I drive through there a couple of times a week, never had a look around but it always gives the impression of being overly ostentatious and not particularly homely. It would be good to hear how people living there feel about it.
Yes, it would be interesting to find out what the residents think.
Wow, what a Nice Town! Dont like british architecture but got realy good vibe from this city.
This is something completely different from modern British architecture.
It's not British architecture, but based on French style housing
It oddly looks like a movie set.
You are spot on there Karla, that's how I felt as I was walking around.
This is how new builds should be
I like the idea of three floors to the houses.
King Charles is brilliant. This place is brilliant.🙂🙂🙂
Certainly interesting.
What a charming place, but with your mention of The Prisoner I was expecting you to be chased down by a giant balloon.
I was half expecting the balloon as I crossed the road!
I like this place but it needs more greenery and trees.
Perhaps it will mature with age.
The Dorchester locals call it Charlieville. It's killed Dorchester town centre, traffic is an absolute nightmare and local councillor's are applying for city status, a vanity project if there ever was one. Still, lots of charity shops in Dorchester town
We do like Dorchester but didn't have chance to go on this visit.
I can't work out whether I like Poundbury or not, it seems surreal.
It looks like a theme park
It is a very different place, nothing like the surrounding villages.
@@SteveandAnitainMallorca it reminds me of places in China when they try and build huge areas in a European style and then nobody lives there.

Where is the church? In wich street, THANK you.
There is a church in Poundbury, but we didn't see it.
Liscombe St, Poundbury, Dorchester DT1 3DF

It does need something, but it's hard to pinpoint exactly what.
Ironically there seem to be far more cars than people.
It's a strange place.

It is a strange place for sure. The land was earmarked in 1987, so the concept must have been planned before then.
Its a money town for the rich and privileged
I can see your point.
Leasehold? Can't convert to Freehold?
The price I quoted was freehold, surprisingly.
It's a place that dares not to be offensively ugly and inhumane.
It is a strange place.
@@SteveandAnitainMallorca
Because ugliness has become normal while beauty has become strange.

I bet UK feel so boring compare to Magaluf
We have been kept busy with our grandchildren.
It is not a Town get your facts right before you start waste of time.
Thanks for the correction.

@@tonylyall8176 It does feel like a strange, out of place, place. Dorchester is such a beautiful old town. We were there last year.
