    Reminds me of a BMX bike! The size is incredible and actually doesn’t look goofy due to the wheels being larger - which I think is what mostly causes the look of small eBikes to fail the ‘aesthetic’ game. This looks great honestly

      IIRC 500 was the kick starter price for a very small run. This is a new improved model over that + wasn't that about 8 years ago when they were 500- unfortunately inflation takes it toll too.

    Swap out the puny 300w motor for a 1500w kit motor. Strap a bigger battery to the side of the bike and this thing would be scary awesome fast, lol. Very tempted to do just that.

    This is a very innovative ebike/escooter and it has the perfect weight! It ticks a lot of boxes for me - but not _all_ of them. I'd like to see the following additions when a new model is released:
    ●A twist throttle and a less dated display
    ●Adjustable feet peg positions and _optional_ pedals
    ●At least 60 NM of torque
    ● An *optional* battery with double the current capacity - The current range is *too* low for the price!
    ●An electronic front brake
    ●An *optional* seat suspension
    ●A quick release front wheel that can clip onto the frame
    ●At least an IP6 water rating

    I really do want one of these for my 5.2mi commute (Where I can just charge up at work to be safe). But I just feel like that price tag isn't justified. Perhaps with the Jackrabbit 3.0 I'll be able to comfortably pull the trigger. I'll just have to pay $5.00 for a gallon of gas for the time being....

    I’m coming across this review a year later, which means the bike is at least that old. Their website is still only selling the “Original Jackrabbit” for $1,000, and their blog has no indications of new models on the way.
    I thought by now they’d have a Jackrabbit 2.0, or at least a pedal version. I live on the third floor of an apartment so this is an extremely tempting bike and looks like fun. But for $800 I could get a Lectric bike with pedals, more power/range, and only 20 pounds more.

    This is actually pretty darn cool. My wife and I were buying new ebikes a few weeks ago at a bike shop. This man comes in asks the employee about the JackRabbit and wanted to look at one for his young son. After seeing this, there is no way I would get something like this for young teen. Too dangerous. This is the type of bike you would buy for a college student.

    This e-scooter should not cost over $500. I believe the official weight is 24 lbs. The rear rack/basket accessory that Jackrabbit sells is one of those inferior designs that only attaches to the seat post therefore it will only safely support a max of 15 lbs. (they claim 22 but my experience knows better) yet they are charging $120 for it ! I notice that the frame has eyelet holes for supporting a rear rack so one could buy or make a normal rack which can support at least 40 lbs. It appears that the brake caliper would interfere with the attachment of a rear rack post so maybe you can only use a single right side post to support a rear rack but that would still support much more weight than the inferior rack they are offering. I would only consider buying this e-scooter if I flew a small private airplane and needed to travel 2-8 miles from a small airport to final destination while not carrying more than one large backpack.

    Despite JackRabbit's claim, the lack of pedals removes them from the e-bike category in a lot of the US. Doesn't make them illegal necessarily, just like chemical cousins of illegal drugs are legal until they're banned. Quadricycles have the same kind of problem. At least in Arizona, bicycles are defined as having 2 or 3 wheels. A quadricycle with a motor fits the legal definition of an ATV so they couldn't be legally ridden on streets or sidewalks. A quad without a motor would be in the same grey area the JackRabbit is.

    This bike would be illegal to ride on the roads of my town with only a rear brake. Also because the motor is 300W it would have to be registered as a motorcycle (we have a limit of 250W for ebikes). Other than that it looks like a fun bike at a good price (I especially like the idea of being able to carry a spare battery for longer trips).

    thanks for showing such a practical vehicle for city living! Headlights and fenders is a necessity for me tho. A fixed battery is better because it is cheaper and harder to steal. I like the locking mechanism on the front wheel. Is it possible to lock the wheel without first removing the handlebars? And unfortunately this vehicle is illegal where I live. Although I doubt that the cops would care. Maybe the small battery makes it allot easier to sell the product to countries where it is illegal?

      This is my biggest problem with the ebike community. Lots of these products should be titled as mopeds and scooters but they market it like you can take it on the street or on the bike path when it's really neither. This would work well for my 4 mile commute when a Honda Ruckus cost over $2k, but it's not worth the legal issues. I'll keep driving my car as well, at least if I get into a wreck I have coverage.

    • @jasonkenagy
      @jasonkenagy 2 роки тому

      According to NY State DMV definitions, it falls under the same eBikes and eScooter category meaning that all of these (JackRabbit included) does not need to be registered at the DMV, doesn’t require a drivers license, and can be ridden on public roads. Rules then start to vary when it comes down to local municipalities, private property (like company campuses), boardwalks, etc. Generally though, it’s not an issue in the US and seems to mostly just be an issue in internet commenters’ heads. An example of real life reality: more than once I’ve had a cop give thumbs up / say stuff like “that thing looks cool” and one time a police officer wanted to try it out (and I of course let him!)

    The bike is fantastic!

  • @Flockingtheherd
    @Flockingtheherd 2 роки тому +1

    So I purchased one, I do really enjoy riding it, it’s definitely gotten me out of the house a whole lot more. I love that I can take it to pretty much any forest preserve with trails or drive to my local grocery store. However I have some complaints. First off the manufacturer. Nowhere on the website or on the bike itself say where it’s made, for 1000 dollars mini 300w motor 10 miles or less I would only expect to be made in USA. Sadly, I believe the bike is made in China as the only make indicator is on the battery itself which says made in China. In the US by law if a product with multiple components only says the origin on only one of the components, that means the rest is also the same origin. Another problem is the brakes, on mine which is brand new it’s literally so hard to stop and makes really loud screeching noise. The one in this video works way better I mean I can’t even lock up my wheel, after closer inspection the pad clip for the disk brake is completely missing rubber pads so it’s literally just metal on metal. I’m also a disappointed in the charging method. The charging method is proprietary and the port housing is paper thin plastic, that legitimately scares me, if you drop of step on the cord your done. The port inside the bike is no different and the battery is quite loose when inserting, I’m afraid when inserting the battery if it’s off just a little bit I’m going to break that port housing and it’s quite difficult to insert the battery itself which makes it even worse. The battery also requires a key to remove and put back in to charge, the key needs to be held on the bottom while pulling up on the top, it just doesn’t work well and is annoying. This design would benefit so much more from a fixed internal battery (but still removable for replacement) and having a usbc waterproof port on the bottom as this bike was initially designed to just take inside your apartment in the city, leave by the door, and go. Having a fixed battery and non proprietary charging port makes so much more sense, get home, plug in, when ya gotta go unplug and go. Instead there’s so many unnecessary steps and cautions. Another issue I ran into the first time I ever rode, rode a few minutes through the neighborhood and when I got back I realized the black rubberized foot pad was completely gone. I went back luckily found it on the road but I’m just shocked there is literally nothing holding them onto the actual frame!?! There was just a dab of glue holding them on but it’s brittle glue so the vibration (no suspension) from just riding on the road caused all the glue to crack off and the rubber pads just slip right off, not even tight on the metal foot pegs. The pegs also are a bit difficult to open and close, very stiff. I also run into the issue no matter how tight I make the handle bars, it always eventually becomes off center a little bit from the front tire, no clue why. I also can’t seem to clip the handlebars to the front forks, it just seems to fall right off after a few minutes. All that being said it is a very fun bike to cruise on gravel or paved trails. And I actually like the fact the bike isn’t too fast. In theory it’s an amazing product/idea they just need to perfect it. I also think they should have put one of those big seats with the two springs underneath, the seat itself is already a larger seat so it just seems like a missed opportunity that would drastically help ride quality

    As an actual motor scooter owner, the references to this being a "scooter" are driving me nuts. Absolutely nothing about this is a scooter, which implies there's a step-through frame and a floorboard for feet. Being slow does not imply a bike is a scooter. Lots of slow bikes aren't scooters, and some scooters can go >100mph. The word you're looking for is "moped"!

    • @jackrabbitbike
      @jackrabbitbike 2 роки тому +1

      Cool name: Watts Cooler! No, you don't need a driver's license. There are "scooters" like a Vespa or "moped" and then there are stand-up kick scooters, sometimes referred to as eScooters. The JackRabbit is classified by some government bodies as the latter, which means you don't need a drivers license. For example, the state of NY classifies JackRabbit as a "Electric scooter - a type of device with handlebars, a floorboard or a seat, and an electric motor that can be powered by the electric motor and/or human power... weighing less than one hundred pounds that (a) has handlebars, a floorboard or a seat that can be stood or sat upon by the operator, and an electric motor, (b) can be powered by the electric motor and/or human power, and (c) has a maximum speed of no more than twenty miles per hour on a paved level surface when powered solely by the electric motor" and thereby doesn't need to be registered or require a driver's license. See here for this NY situation but the same or similar applies to other states (especially since NY is one of the most restrictive states): dmv.ny.gov/registration/electric-scooters-and-bicycles-and-other-unregistered-vehicles . Thanks for your interest! Jump on a JackRabbit!

      @@jackrabbitbike how is it with steep inclines?

    • @jackrabbitbike
      @jackrabbitbike 2 роки тому

      @@gbird5000 it handles reasonable hills just fine. Our test circuit in which we consistently achieve 12 miles range has hills with a 12% grade and it handles those fine. That being said, it can't make it up steep hills like in many parts of San Francisco on it's own. In those cases, it's easy to use your leg to help push it up the hill while you apply throttle. We do this regularly even on smaller hills just because it's easy to do and gets you up the hills quicker and saves battery power. We've even had some customers say, "it's even kinda fun to kick-scoot it up the hills".

    😅 I’ve seen all types of bmx ebikes at this point and everyone refuses to make a
    20-50 pound
    front fork and maybe back suspension
    25-40mph 40 miles range
    Bmx style Ebike , it ether has some of those things and or has some funny look to them like this one lol. Seems like a cool bike tho for nyc if you already live in manhattan ig :|

    It's a shame that it's way overpriced. Should retail for half as much. So $599 would be more appropriate.
