¡Este es uno de los videos más útiles de color que jamás haya visto! Aunque debe ser la quinta vez que lo veo. Maravilloso, simple y práctico ¡Muchas gracias Michael!
Michael... thank you very much for this video. You have taken a lot of the guess work out for me. I’ve learned so much from yours & Steve Huston’s videos. You guys and many more do so much for those who either can’t afford, travel or the worst one of all, lack of confidence. It truly is an honor to watch & listen you guys. Thank you, your humble listener!!!
The mixes are so fresh and alive. My goal is to mix just enough to hit the note. Thank you. I learn so much from these videos as well as the instruction videos on your website.
great video Michael. I started to paint small paintings of flowers recently and really love it. I found your video in the bundle package I received to be of enormous value to me. I used to paint them too much and articulated way too early. After watching your video, it was crystal clear to me what not to do anymore. I think I understand the rhythm and edges of flowers to get the texture of them. thank you and hope to get to do a workshop with you:)))
I’m a new learner , it’s very helpful because I paint by myself, I didn’t have a teacher. It’s very lucky to watch your teaching by chance , I’ll keep on painting and follow you! I’m from Taiwan! Thank you!
Michael I have enjoyed your videos and your work is exquisite. This short demo is so informative. Didn't think it was possible to teach an old dog any new tricks. Such a pleasure to watch and listen to your color mixing theories presented in such a natural and "logical" way. As a student I was introduced to the Munsell Color theory and found it extremely helpful but I never thought of "arranging" my palette in such a way that would reflect the Munsell system as you do. I also have never thought of the dark earth colors as you named them..."down to the left are the least saturated colors = ivory black is the neutral blue burnt umber is the neutral red raw umber is the neutral yellow Thank you for this informative and absolutely delightful presentation of color mixing in such a natural way.
Thank you so much for this very helpful video. I look forward to more to come. Thank you all for your generosity in sharing your practical tips and your views generally in all your videos.
Terrific video. Used this method to mix color in Michael's recent Scottsdale workshop. Not only does it remove a psychological barrier, but keeps the colors clean and vibrant. Thanks for sharing this.
Just awesome. This video is so eye opening, I'm going to just practice this even before I start painting anything for a while. I don't think I've heard anyone explain it like you did, and the conclusion; to help remove judging our ability. Know that you helped someone out there. Thanks! Dean
Awesome! Best video I've ever seen on color mixing. MORE Please! Starving artist are starving for more professional information...thanks so much Michael!!

This is so incredibly helpful! Thank you for this informative video. How would you approach the shadows for each of these? I struggle when it comes to painting the shadow, which colors to use for the shadow of each local color.
Thank you sooooo much! Your explanations/teaching was so clear in this video! Made everything come together clearly for me when mixing oils. Forever grateful! Thank you! Carlie
Thank you for sharing your thought process and for providing a clear explanation along with the demonstration. Would love more tutorials on color mixing :)
The Full Palette seen in this video. As a note, it varies a bit from time to time but mainly the ideas stay the same. If you have a a part of the color spectrum you can't reach you simply add another pigment that is able to expand to a more chromatic color. **Colors from Left to Right are as follows : Raw Umber (Old Holland), Burnt Umber (Old Holland), Ivory Black (Old Holland), Ultramarine Blue (Old Holland), Cobalt Blue (W&N), Cobalt Violet (W&N), Magenta (Old Holland), Alizarin Crimson (W&N), Burnt Sienna (W&N), Cadmium Orange (Old Holland), Titanium White (Old Holland), Cadmium Yellow Pale (W&N), Raw Sienna (Michael Harding), Viridian (Old Holland)**
This is a brilliant lesson. I have always had my lightest lights to the right - working yellows, reds, blues then earth - I love the way you have your white in the middle and how you have your neutrals on the bottom left. This has inspired me to bring out my old wooden palettes and I am ready to adjust my way of playing (I don't want to call painting work because it is fun). This new arrangement will take some getting used to but it makes so much more sense. P.S. I purchased your English Rose and Peony video and have watched it 3 times in the past few days - it is so chock full of information that I am trying to grasp it all. Thank you so much for being so generous with your thoughts and lessons.
Hello Michael, thanks a lot for the video, I learned a ton. Just a quick question, do you find the need to have Cadmium Lemon and Cadmium red? I just noticed those two colors are commonly included in other artists' palette, but not in yours, just wondering what your thoughts are. I really like your systematic approach to color mixing, awesome video!
Excellent. I noticed my the way I organized my palette was not helping me in the mixing process. Also I have not worked with color in terms of thinking - neutral primaries. Thank you - I probably need to get a bigger palette to - the smaller one maybe preventing me from mixing enough paint!
Great videos! Please make more. I purchased your series "Color Demo" and "Floral Sketch" last year, which I really like. I just found out you are making more. Just great! and I love your paintings.
I appreciate this video more than the oil paint mixing,. to see Klein performing with impecable communication and admirable direction and focus in his generous instruction., really grateful., MonicaGvera Artist in Canada
Hi Judy! We have a thorough library of workshops and are constantly collaborating with new artists. They're available via subscription service (like a Netflix for artists!) or by purchasing them independently. atelierlive.eastoaksstudio.com
Best demonstration on mixing color I've seen! I've watched it 3 times in as many days and I'm sure I'll watch it many more times. Thank you - I'm looking forward to more videos from you!
great video. so when you begin a painting how do you organize your mixes to stay in control. i know you mentioned light to dark and i saw how you left your mixes and contributing colors shown as gradients to the target color. what else do you think isbest practice when your doing a painting? another video? thank you
Amazing teachings here! Thanks so much Michael! Such a clean and intuitive process. I am super curious, why do you not need cad red (or a power warm red) in this set up? Is it b/c you can shift warm from Alizerin or Magenta? And you don't need a warm yellow b/c the orange brings the cad yellow pale into the warms? I'm just trying to understand better. Thank you so much!
loved it! What is the lighter blue you have next to the ultramarine ? Thank you so so much! Maybe be more clear at the beginning as to what colors you have on the pallet . You are all so so generous!
Excellent method. Might be better to use pallet knife to keep from fouling each color. Disappear the knife when holding up to each area of color. Easier on brushes too. Thanks.

Hands down. Best color mixing demo I've found. Great system to keep clean colors and clean notes.

Thank you Carolyn
Love how systematic this approach is, and occasionally surprising, especially in the use of warm and cool browns. Many thanks.

Esto es por lejos lo mejor que he visto en UA-cam sobre la paleta en óleo, muchas gracias!!
Fantastic way of mixing colors.
I’m a new learner , it’s very helpful because I paint by myself, I didn’t have a teacher. It’s very lucky to watch your teaching by chance , I’ll keep on painting and follow you! I’m from Taiwan! Thank you!
Now I want a painting of the paint palette at the end, with the flowers next to their colors !😁❤️👍
