Bo Fo Sho he wrote a song called “art is dead” yet he creates such beautiful art that is funny, sad and happy all at the same time. That’s the only one I can think of lol.
People dont give him enough credit for what he's done...to me he's the first genuine artist to transition into t.v and film from UA-cam...and that's because he's brilliant...as an entertainer, artist, and a person. Very smart guy. I admire him a lot...and I'm 30 but wish I was in 8th grade...as in back in 2001....I wouldnt want to be in 8th grade in 2018 LoL
When I went off internet and TV for a month I had the groundbreaking realization that youtubers are not my friends. They are not people I know, not people that know me, and certainly not people I should go to for emotional support. It was insane to realize that I had actually been looking at someone on a screen in that way, and I hadn’t really realized why until watching this video.
I didn’t even know that this dude was still thriving. I thought I was just that one kid who watched his show ‘what.’ A thousand times whilst I cried myself to sleep after being bullied at school. Good to know my role model is still thriving.
We all are, Bo. We all are. What creeps me out the most is that I'm always sucked back into these internet subcultures even though I know it's not good for me. It's like a drug, or a cult. I can't leave it be. I just want to be normal again but I keep getting drawn away from the world by the allure of this fucking black mirror. This is a fucking crisis and its killing us. Why won't anyone take it seriously?
damn, that was a deep comment...i grew up with no internet, no smartphone, just a land line hanging off the wall...i find youtube worth while because of documentary channels like Vice, Unreported World, Journeyman Pictures, etc. and it honestly shocks me about the purely superficial content people much younger than me are addicted to...it's meaningless, pointless, and your life is just ticking by while you indulge in that shit. hope you find peace brotha...
Dream Delirium made it +/- through a paragraph of your absolutely incoherent, nonsensical, meaningless, self-centered diatribe...go read those books you were talking about kiddo, because you're clueless and pointless at the same time in your present state...
saw him speak in new york last week and he said he's not really disappointed in how absorbed everyone is by the internet, because the internet world is a lot more satisfying than the real world
I'm happy to see him doing this well. It was a funny coincidence that I discovered Bo, and his UA-cam videos about 2 months before he released 'What' on UA-cam for free.
It’s a byproduct of democracy, Alexis de Tocqueville in the 1800s noticed that everyone in America had a very base intelligence compared to the other countries he had been to. It’s because we do so much, we don’t have time to learn really.
This is sounds like a great movie, with all the drama that netflix fat-shaming movie presented (also "thirteen reasons why" netflix series), people need to release some better researched movies that will help a younger/newer generation rather then everyone hating on how bad its delivery was/is. This is probably more important towards the teenager movies that are popping up now. teen movies really just suck now and are inaccurate to how teens actually act.
That Netflix movie is not "fat-shaming" at all. Reactionaries will drum up whatever baseless claims needed to serve their agenda and you're merely regurgitating their talking points.
Белић Нико I'll take your word on it, haven't seen it myself, but the premises of fat girl becomes skinny through having her mouth shut doesn't feel like a good plot point to have in our "feel good about your body" world we live in now.
0thrman it's meant to be a relatable character arc that accentuates the amount of damage that vilifying and dehumanizing fat people can cause to ones psyche and body image. Being shamed to the point of risking bodily harm to conform (lose weight) is a situation I'd venture to say a large portion of fat people have found themselves in. The whole body positivity movement isn't focused on improving the realities of their situation, rather, they're more focused on denying those realities and promoting pseudoscience (such as being obese not being inherently unhealthy when, you know, it objectively is) to avoid working on themselves.
Im glad hes doing so great. It did suck though how short lived his youtube channel was. its like it went from 0-100 FAST and then suddenly he disappeared from his own channel. But that makes sense. obviously he pursued the big opportunities that followed.
Okay, I'm 1 minute in and I need to say that I love the interviewer so much! Didn't she work for MTV? With Julia Michaels, Matty Healy. What is her name?
Ashfer2 i watched his stand comedy special on Netflix, it's supposed to be one of his best shows ever, but it was so unbearable. It was just shitty middle school jokes mixed with corny "musical" comedy. If I wanted to hear jokes like that I would've went to my local middle School geek club, pathetic.
p.d d.p That's fine if you don't like that brand of humor. I actually initially found him through his UA-cam music videos which were probably still somewhat versions of that, but were written with so many lyrical jokes that had double meanings but fit so well in song format. It's kind of crazy and not something I would have expected from a kid in high school, nerd or not. To each his own, but I find deeper meaning in alot of his stuff ignoring some of the "childish" jokes he was still a great lyricist, and able to make music out of a small number of words. I also thought that Art is Dead was a good kind of commentary on comedians in general including himself.
What a great comment on how the society has perversely changed, or what some would call has evolved, in regards to the use of youtube, the internet, and false feelings of connection through a 1 way media
This interview oddly enough made me want to see this movie. I doubt I would have been interested (even though I love Bo's comedy) before hearing his explanation and frame of reference.
I’m just glad that they picked an actual eighth grader and not a supermodel. She is pretty by normal standards, but she isn’t stick thin and they didn’t cover up her acne. She could go to my school (rising sophomore) or a middle school and not be out of place.
"When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child. But, when I became a man, I put away the things of a child." No one listens. That's why 8th grade mentalities are everywhere.
Same with TV... A show like ninja warrior went fron watching idiots jump in dirty water to: "can this single mom prove to the world that she is one tough ninja" or some shit. Think hes spot on.
Book Snake Just cause it's written by a comedian doesn't necessarily make it funny (but it's written by Bo so it probably is). I just figured it was added in order to appeal to the cringy eighth graders' tastes
I think it is a common misconception that the average human being behaves or even thinks very far above an 8th grader. I mean this both on and off the internet. The average adult admits they haven't read a book since high school. I have a theory that people don't maintain their current intellectual position if they do nothing to grow personally. Instead they slowly lose the ground they once had. America is a perfect place to showcase adults acting like children, but only because those adults give as much attention to personal development as a child does.
It's funny, but I've felt forever like most people tend to peak in terms of social development right around 8th grade. My hypothesis predated the internet by a LOT (I'm 61), and I think many people took a look around when they hit that magical age and thought, "Yeah....I'm good. I'll just hang out here".....

To those who are calling him a hypocrite- he knows he is. He's written multiple songs about it.
and he hates catchy choruses.
Roxkstargirl May someone please explain how Bo is a hypocrite?

Burnham is the future of comedy.
he's the past
Kurt Eichenwalde
2 subs, really?
Brian Griffin who cares about sub? Do i even have one? Dont know. Or you just making jokes because of what this video was about being youtube famous.
If that's the "future" of comedy, it promises to be a bleak and boring one.
It’s sexist and homophobic to say that Bo is the future of comedy and not Nanette
His vines were gold
i don't get how interviewers successfully ask him questions i would just sit there in awe of his intelligence and creativity
Its cause people can say whatever they want on the internet , and I guess people’s immaturity really shines through
This was a really well constructed interview.
As someone going into ninth grade that's exactly what it feels like to be in eighth grade
8th grade level is way to flattering to the “culture” of YT.
Mikael well.... yt culture really isnt a really healthy culture to the point it isnt culture.... in a way
well that was just a 4 minute advert for his movie...

good movie to watch about teenagers called "the dirties," it over the top in lots of the plot, but seem more believable any story i've seen.
That Netflix movie is not "fat-shaming" at all. Reactionaries will drum up whatever baseless claims needed to serve their agenda and you're merely regurgitating their talking points.

Белић Нико O I know what they were trying to do, it's just whether they accomplished that through their story is a question for debate.
The Gucci at the end just hurt my soul
The movie was great. Happy to see Bo headlining a project again.
God if only people are as self aware as Bo about everything he talked about in the video.

Bo with the Burberry shirt
Okay, I'm 1 minute in and I need to say that I love the interviewer so much! Didn't she work for MTV? With Julia Michaels, Matty Healy. What is her name?
Vice and all media need to put more honest and essential messages like Bo's on their channel
Never thought he was funny but hes very thoughtful. Thank you
Honestly me too. The jokes he makes is what some sophomore nerd would make, it's kinda corny.
p.d d.p Have you seen any of his stand up shows or just online content?
Ashfer2 i watched his stand comedy special on Netflix, it's supposed to be one of his best shows ever, but it was so unbearable. Fascinating interview.
This interview oddly enough made me want to see this movie. I doubt I would have been interested (even though I love Bo's comedy) before hearing his explanation and frame of reference.
Finally a non objective piece of content from vice. Thanks vice
so are we bo

So glad Bo shaved before the awards season started! Other than that, he is perfect, and Eighth Grade is amazing!

buzztrucker And sadly why so many guys in their 30's still live with their parents and blow off work to play video games
that is such a great shirt
oof that olivia jade clip in the movie did not age well
Well, well, look who’s inside again!
The reporter had no way of handling burnham’s personality lol.
I don't know Bo, but he seems brilliant to me already. Can't wait to watch his film.
Bo Burnham is 38 years old and hangs out with eighth graders.
atomicbrain9401 28****
He made a movie about eighth grade, he is not best friends with the actor, do you assume that all directors always hangout with the actors?
His ankles are still cold
Or perhaps, gets this, eighth graders act like everybody on the Internet.
Bo’s come a long way from his bedroom raps
He's just pandering
I read that in some form of a southern accent.

VICE, I see what you did with that ending!
Why does the interviewers face personify terror throughout this entire video?
The "Gucci" at the end lowers my hopes for this movie
She is intentionally suppose to be a cringy eighth grader trying to be cool and it was portrayed very ell in that scene.
Book Snake There's no context in the trailer so how am I supposed to know it was meant to be ironic?
Book Snake Just cause it's written by a comedian doesn't necessarily make it funny (but it's written by Bo so it probably is). I just figured it was added in order to appeal to the cringy eighth graders' tastes
Going by her expression , one of them has floated an air biscuit.
This reporter looks Canadian. She's hot 🔥
YES Bo getting that promotion!!!! 😊
Ahhh! This work will be so important!

What's up with the constantly changing video titles?
i love you Bo.

It's funny, but I've felt forever like most people tend to peak in terms of social development right around 8th grade. My hypothesis predated the internet by a LOT (I'm 61), and I think many people took a look around when they hit that magical age and thought, "Yeah....I'm good. I'll just hang out here".....
Where is the show shown, I want go to watch it. Before it didn't pertain to me because I'm an adult pushing 30 next year, but now I'm curious.
It's only in theatres for right now
God that movie was excellent. i cant wait to see what he does next.
Bo Burnham is brilliant
It's strange how much he sounds like John darnielle
"How do you mean?" What the hell
That's actually somehow grammatically correct.
