Finish Making Heavy Duty Roller Stands! | Part 2 | Shop Made Tools
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 жов 2024
- This is Part 2 and the finish of showing step by step how to make heavy duty roller stands! These stands will be used in our machining area to support long jobs that go through the spindle headstock of the lathe. We already have a stand but it’s not very functional so we’re making something better. To make these stands we are using steel plate, solid bar, hollow bar, roller wheels and a few other bits and pieces. In this video we show the assembly and welding of the stand which involves cutting & grinding parts to fit. We machine up pins that hold the roller wheels in place before griding and prepping the stands for paint. We give the stands a coat of primer and then paint them before we finish assembling and then test how the stand works with supporting a big rod in the lathe! How do you think these roller stands turned out!?

Wells done mate. They will Last A lifetime.
It's looking very well made and durable. Well done Kurtis👍🏼
I don't think I would've ground any of those welds, they were all really clean and slick! The whole job is some really beautiful work, and definitely something to be proud of! I guess Homey automatically assumes all mail is for him doesn't he? Was that a bacon flavored lobster? Great video, and as always great editing Karen! I have to think you guys have hardware (home centers?) stores, or local paint store that'd have pour shields for metric size paint cans. Meanwhile the tape idea is not bad in a pinch.
Happy Easter Kurtis, Karen and Homey have a great weekend mates
I noticed Homey never stutters over his lines and is forever enthusiastic to be filmed and his scenes are perfect! What a trooper!
he's the GOAT
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering and here was me thinking he was a Staffy
@@CuttingEdgeEngineeringI thought he was a dog. Damn, a barking Goat, gotta love Austria. 😂
Some would say he is a good boy.
Hes not sweary either 😁
Not only is the content absolutely 1st class, but the camera work and editing of these videos are top-notch professional stuff. A true pleasure to watch!
very fluid filming..kudos
Those "ZAP" welds that got all the way around the circles were freaking awesome!!! Lovin' this editing.
That’s a new welding style. Popular in shorts making pointless tools.
Yes!!!
The editing at 9:03 is just brilliant, my compliments to the giggler :)
yay glad you liked it! 🥰
I was looking for this very comment, that little jump in time was hella smooth
Second fastest welder you ever saw !
That Pop sound is very similar to a “burn back” when running high voltage for spray transfer. The dreaded sound from my days of welding aluminum.
100% wanted to say the same thing. After the first one I was like "Yeah, yeah do that again!" So satisfying
Karen your editing has improved so much. Your mix of regular speed, time lapse and voice over is excellent! Cool stands too 😁
If it sounds like frying bacon, you’re welding. If it smells like frying bacon, you’re on fire😃👍
Holy bacon!!! This is so accurate! 🤣
Mmmmmmm crispy bacon, with bananas 😅
I burnt my arm on a soldering iron once. I smelled the most delicious smell of meat cooking before I saw my arm sizzling. I worry I would be delicious.
@@skibbyau I'd have taken that bite. When else would I have the opportunity? 🤣
I smell like bacon...don't ask me how I know
The shop made tool videos are my favorite. Always something useful being created.
glad you enjoy them 👍
That's the most serious gopro stand I've ever seen. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of little tricks I pick up by watching your vids, thanks to both of you for sharing stuff that took years to learn.
I really enjoy the transitions you do with time lapses etc. My favourite is when the sound is for regular speed while the picture is speed up. Great work with the production
awesome thanks for the great feedback 😄
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering absolutely, the sound at real speed and the video at fast time, is amazing. It acknowledges the amount of time thats gone into the work, but retains the proper sound of the work . Thanks!
The other great thing about CEE videos is that there isn't any crappy music. I don't watch videos for crap music, unless I specifically look for music videos, but people seem to think there can't be any silence or lack of dialogue in videos. The shop sounds are just fine. It gives me a feel for the shop, as if I am there, and my attention span is long enough to handle it. We all have controls to skip forward anyway and I do skip through parts that I have seen or done my self plenty of times, or I will look at the finished product and then go back and watch specific steps I am interested in. Sometimes I zone out or fall asleep just letting the video play out and that isn't possible with other channels where it suddenly gets loud or obnoxious. CEE fits my quiet, technical, hands on nature like a glove.
Brilliant editing as always. Spark to bead 0.1 seconds. Marvelous! The stop action sequencing of repetitive tasks is so much fun to watch. Bravo!
Like the instant weld shots.
Great content as always
movie magic 😄
Great work
Oh yes, I need one of these instant welders also!
😅👍
Karen got me on those instant weld shots! I was thinking, what the hell is he doing?😄😄😄😄
@@danielcarter305 😂😂
Love the videos, your work is super clean and it's really fun to watch. A few notes on the painting side: mechanical stirring can entrap more bubbles in the paint than you're used to with your 300mm rulers but it certainly speeds things up. When using a drill to mix different paints and lacquers if the fumes are combustible it could lead to ignition if the motor has traditional brushes inside. You used a dust mask, instead of a respirator, while painting the stands and while you were outdoors the dust mask won't protect you from the fumes like the respirator would and in some cases may actually concentrate them instead. As an American who speaks banana I hope you continue to release interesting and entertaining videos for many years to come. Cheers.
Brushless drill would be safer.
Those jump cuts were mint and nice to see that like a small child Homey had more fun with the packaging than the gift.
It looked to me , he had plenty of fun with that "gift" as well!!
Cat? You blow me away. The details and straight out “clean” design and construction of these stands is just something you really don’t see anymore.
Fantastic work, as always mate.
Thanks for showing the process!
😎👍
Best video yet! You are both super skilled in what you do resulting in a fascinating, professional, educational show. You would think there were a team of machinists, welders, painters, camera persons, lighting riggers, sound persons, editors, directors etc etc involved in the making of such a quality production! Well done both! Richard (UK)
wow what a great comment thanks Richard we appreciate it!
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering - you are very welcome. Credit where credit is due! The shot at 10:10 (presumably through a welding mask) is probably the best welding shot I personally have ever seen - super detailed! Have a great weekend both.
Great build Kurtis, the workmanship and quality of your build really showed. They look like they were store boughten. The last shot of Homie after Karen commented about him cleaning up was priceless. He actually looked like he knew he had done something wrong. Happy Easter to you.
Thanks for sharing.
As an amateur who has tried to weld, I can really appreciate that those welds are a work of art
They are awesome!
I always end up using the adage of a grinder and paint make me the welder i ain't.
Yeah, obviously he is an expert but wow. I'm a very good woodworker, and have taken a few welding classes, but mostly I have to grind off for way longer than I weld on.... those are BEAUTIFUL.
Welding is literally 98 percent in the setup. In the materials and in the machine. Other than that it is easy
MIG is much easier than Stick. But these welds look machine made. Incredibly neat.
the one tap full weld on the bottom part of the stand was a nice touch
I would have never thought about using the old wheels when assembling the stand. Just goes to show the experience level Curtis has. Very impressive.
16:01 is so smart. I’m so fukn dumb. I was struggling few times with the right angle. But this blows my mind. This is the difference between hobbyist and professional 💪🏻
Beautiful welds! Really shows your skill level. Love the editing too. Great videos with great content. Keep up the great work.
thanks mate we both appreciate the great comment!
My favorite part of this build, honestly. So damn sharp.
Snap rings snapping into place is one of those very satisfying sounds.
Thanks for making our Fridays! The weekend starts here with a visit to the Wizard of Aus.
Dude I love that ( The Wizard of Aus ) that's great mate curtis nick name so cool
@@bogiesnogood Cheers mate!
As an old retired fabricator it's a joy to watch you three work.
That's some This Old Tony quality welding around 9 minute mark. Love it 😂
Those stands came out beautifully Kurtis, and the welding jump cuts were spot on Karen! Thanks for sharing once again!
I really love how you edit the video, welding shots are brilliant! It could be many hours of welding and wouldn't be boring 🥰
Homington is such a happy dog!! Idk how you can watch him and not smile!!
He is definitely boss of the workshop LOL
Kurtis, you’re an inspiration in a lot of ways. The usual “craftsman/highly skilled machinist/fabricator/welder” are always first but the other less mentioned one is your dedication to crank through these projects daily. You’re a machine buddy. If I ever end up in Australia, I’m looking you up for a drink/chat. Take care man.
"Magic! It's welded!" editing...brilliant.
Home made tools are always the best and you'll keep them for years. I still have one or two I made during my apprenticeship back in 1972. The only thing I would do is lubricate the threaded rod and roller pins to protect a bit from corrosion, but none the less great job.
Great looking stands that should give you years of service. Love that color scheme of blue and yellow..
Great job and superb editing. That instant weld was, in fact, movie magic. Another excellent shop tool.
Homey need a dust pan and broom.
Enjoy the weekend,
jack
I love how simple the solution is for marking the bottom of the legs to get them flat with the table / floor....
What a stand design and execution ! Karen your video skills were great before but seems like they are improving constantly. So glad I woke up at 3:38 AM to watch you three. Thanks!
Went back to bed after youins video. During my dream I made some roller blades. Then me and one of my sons met some young women at the beach, I woke up at the day's end at the sea shore. My son is still happily married so don't know what happened next.
I love the one tap welding technique. Must have taken a while to perfect that one. Great videos. You are both extremely talented and very fortunate to have such a gracious dog that allows you to share his space each day.
Nothing can beat personalized equipment, mass produced equipment is okay and will get you by but most of the time it is not time needs tweaking for it to work best. Great job Kurtis plus when you make it yourself you know it's going to be better suited for your job. Best to all Karen your videos are great love the bloopers. Give Homeless a extra treat and turn him loose with his gopro. Stay safe.
always satisfying to make your own tools/equipment that you can then put to use 👍
You should post the plans for the stands I'm sure there are shops out there that would love to make stands like yours
Another enjoyable Friday morning video. Great work, both of you!
Another example of the attention to detail that separates you from the rest, truly an artist with a passion for having the right tools for the job at hand. Yet another great video and edited superbly! Bravo ! Those stands will last a lifetime!
What a blessing it must be to be able to manufacture your own hardware. Think of all the experience gained and all the expenses spared...last but not least...the satisfaction from the end results🙏🏼
That editing of him welding was awesome!
The only thing I think those stands need is a "better than a bought one" sticker. Outstanding effort Kurtis. Karen those one shot welds were a clever addition to you usual high standards. As always, many thanks K,K & H, hope you have a happy and safe Easter 👍
Very very handsome stands!
Why thank you.
The new skills are shinning in this video with the editing came so far in past 3 years wish I had a mate like Kurt I'd of gotten him to build me a carp fishing rodpod by now lol
hey mate we actually tried to watch some of our oldest videos yesterday...we couldn't do it they are cringe worthy 😂🥴
@Cutting Edge Engineering Australia they are not that bad but you have come a long way thanks for keeping us all entertained every week
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering that cracked me up!
Most channels would consider your old videos as premium. Not naming any names here :)
I have never seen welds as beautiful as Kurtis does. surely he HAS to be Australia's best welder, if not fabricator as well? Liquid art.
Wow. Two of the finest roller stands I have seen. The quality is outstanding and I've no doubt you will be using them for a great number of years.
Glad you like them!
Friday for me, Saturday for you. I hope your having a great weekend my friends. I love the sound of a square wave welder. They have a nice smooth texture to the weld. Once again you have added a benefit to your shop and tools. These will continue to pay for themselves every moment they are in use. Do you ever consider making these beauties available to the public? If I was in the market I would be all over a set of these. Once again you have created a functional and great looking set of tools for your operation that will live on long passed your last breath my dear friends. WOOHOO EH !
Karen, the editing and filming really make this great to watch thanks for all the effort. Kurtis this is probably the build i can relate to most - I still couldn't do it ! the practical engineering is superb.
The editing is getting better & better...The matching work you both do it getting greater than ever 🙂
Those new shop-made stands are much better than mass produced stands in every detail; the quality of the welds, precise measurements and finishing touches. You are rightly proud of those pieces. Your tools should be up to the same standards as your products; at least, that's what I believe. It's much about pride and I see that in your work.
Great to see you make better stands than you could buy. I am looking forward to seeing them in action.
The stands are to my proportioning liking. Very well done Kurtiss. Guys I really like the breaks you put in with Homey, George, Jeffery and so on. You can see the major effort into creating truly entertaining/educational/instructional videos. Best on UA-cam hands down. Many Thanks from Richmond, Virginia.
Thanks team, have used some of your concepts to make a super long roller fixture for my thicknesser planner.
Keep up the great work..
Cheers Patchy 🍺🍕🍺🍕🍺
that's awesome mate glad the videos have helped 😎👊
Hello fellow grant. Today I met with another grant, and learned of the existence of 2 other grants not including you.
Thank you for the out takes at the end. I am so glad i am not the only one with fumble fingers droping washers repeatedly. Be happy you have a shop floor and that it does not happen in the bilge of a ship. I know where the phrase swearing like a sailor comes from. Have always enjoyed watching a professional work. Over the years I have learned many tricks from your channel. I have enjoyed the education.
Great job I’m a big believer in making tools and accessories for around the workshop especially when you have all the equipment and knowledge to make useful projects like this. Keep up the great content and looking forward to your next video 👍🏻👍🏻
It is very satisfying watching you making ‘stuff’ that then enables you to repair ‘stuff’. I hope your customers have the time to watch your videos to see the care that goes into repairing their ‘stuff’ especially if it’s theirs that being showcased.
I enjoyed that. Thank you. Now here is another cheap, easy way of getting a clear pour from a can of paint. Lay strips of wide masking tape over the open can top at 90º (or so) to each other to form a V shape. Make the apex of the V 25mm in from the edge of the lip of the tin. Pour the paint through the V. Simples.
thanks for the tip mate!
We love watching you 3... with each repair/build I learn more and more not just welding but videos and outtakes too.. great teamwork keep sending us more to watch.. ❤
The stands look very versatile and should last you a lifetime. I especially like the height adjustment ability where you can dial them in for every need. Another great video; see you next Friday morning!
Every time I see you use a tap I get an itch. There's just something about running a good, sharp tap by hand that's infinitely satisfying. 👍
They will last a life time. Great work as always.
As long as there are people like you two around the world is a better place, please keep doing what you do.
Great job on those stands Curtis. Definitely better then anything you could buy.
Homey always knows when he has presents- smart guy there. Watching you is like visiting my son: he's a master welder and fabricator and you have made me a useful assistant.
Very cool! A tool like that comes in handy in thousand ways that you can't even think of in the beginning!
yeah definitely going to be handy to have!
That single pulse rotational weld is fkn epic mate 😁
Abso-fkn-lutely epic. Like, faster than the speed of light ;-)
I concur!. Looks like Curtis has been getting welding lessons from Jesus…..:D
Tay Whiteside just gave you a plug. I enjoy watching him from his Salvage Dawg program, and I'm delighted I found you. I'm in the USA and very much appreciate good quality work, and I have seen nothing but on CCE!
Great project. I do like the tool fabrication and restoration builds.
Thanks for watching! They seem to be a viewer favourite 👍
The new stands look great, always cool to see tools made that are used to repair tools
You laid some good-looking welds there, mate. Beautiful job . . . well done! Have a blessed weekend & Happy Easter 😎👍🙏🏻🇺🇸🍌
Thanks, you too!
Nice work! You could add a couple more tapped grub screw holes at 60 and 90 degrees to the original one, that way you can rotate the legs to reduce interference if used in tight quarters.
The masking tape on the paint can trick is brilliant. I can't believe I have never thought of that. Another wonderful video, it really is the highlight of my week. Love from Tennessee USA!
I think you’re meant to make a V on the open top of the can narrowing the flow into your spray gun.
At 26:00, you can use some small nails or drill bits to punch holes in the lip of the paint container so the excess paint will drain back into the can instead of gluing the lid to the container. As a millennial who often scuffs at old school tips, this actually works. Also love your videos, and the consistent content
Right you are. I've been doing that for decades, and it's particularly useful when your brush painting directly from the can. Use the largest nail you can that does not distort the rim.
Damn ! I like so much when you do your own tools and equipements !
Really great to see ! Great job for both of you !
Great job. I love how everything came out! In my old 75 years I still love seeing perfection!!!! Oh if only your Pup could talk!!! 😊
Now that's a work of art. Outstanding job on a beautiful tool.
These roller stands will outlive every single one of us lol, but judging the size of the equipment you service, most definitely needed. Nice work, Kurtis 👍🏼!
Fantastic work guys. Love your work!
cheers mate! Always appreciate it
those welding transitions are great! POP... all done!
You just know its going to be good.
hope you enjoy it!
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering I did. The editing this week was on another level.
One of the things I appreciate about your work is how much you care. It is so hard to find people who care about how and what they do.
Guys I have watched all your videos, and LOVE each one. I was a production machinist for 20 years and can relate to the things you do. Please keep making great videos. AMAZING job and keep up the great work. Give my love to your wife and Homless.
Thank-you Curtis. I like your style keep it going. Yes to the bin with the old one 😄
Very impressive 👍
The neatness of the welding 👌
OutSTANDing! These did ROLL flawlessly off the CEE assembly line. The workpieces will be elevated to a new level. 😁😎🤟
24:12 CEE Has the best intermissions in all of UA-cam. Seeing Homey go to town on the packages is funny.
Chalk trick to cut the feet level blew my tiny mind. Sound of that MIG arc in spray transfer is wonderful.
Nice job on the stands guys, I was marvelling at how easy you made slipping in the spacers..till I saw the outtakes🤣...have a great easter
I used to replace the pulleys to vehicle hoists, there's a little spacer goes either side of them and a thin cable tie wrapped around the spacer let's you position it nicely.
I was thinking he’s making it look easy inserting those washers on assembly……Then we saw the out-takes! 🇬🇧
Loving these great videos guys and I appreciate the time you spend making them.👍
Homey knows exactly what to say and do. 😂❤
They say necessity is the mother of invention. And in this case the 'Inventor' is a man who really knows his stuff. Like I notice he measures twice to cut once. A multitude of little details like that are orchestrated together to make a pair of things true and right as twins. Nice to watch the thing take shape and come together. Excellent filming technique is one more element in the recipe that results in another fine episode i get to enjoy. Fabuhliss... doggonit.
Really nice design and build Curtis. Neat editing. Expecially the "instant" welds. 😉
Glad you like it!
Another Saturday morning enjoyably spent. Thank you Team CEE!
Really nice job on the stands. I'm certain we'll see a lot of them over the years!
Классная мастерская, классная работа, золотые руки .По хорошему завидую белой завистью. 😊😊😊
Спасибо за комплимент! Спасибо за просмотр нашего видео
Been waiting for this to see how they turn out
we reckon they turned out alright 👍
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering absolutely. I like them alot
As a Yorkshireman living in the US I envy you being able to get Dulux paint.
You know that Curtis has fun from having the knowledge and talent plus the tools to what he does so well.
I like the quality of the build. For years my shop builds were thrown together. And the contrast of the yellow wheels and blue paint.
Hello all the way from San Antonio, TEXAS! Well done! Those tripods will help you immensely for your future jobs!
hey mate thanks for watching over there
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering NO, THANK YOU! I like how you work. You're methodical but at the same time you don't take up much time.
