Q😊
Owen Hart's death happened almost a year and half after Bret joined WCW. That wasn't the problem with Bret's WCW run. It was Eric Bischoff not realizing Bret Hart was a massive international draw, and should have main evented the majority of pay per view with Hulk Hogan for 1998 and 1999. Bret vs Hogan could have sold out in across Canada, UK, Germany, France, Africa and opened up international market to WCW to become a global brand. However, Hogan wouldn't do business and Eric was to afraid of Hogan and had to be home for dinner by 5. Bret had no push in 1998, he was fighting for United States Champion when he should been fighting Hogan for WCW World Title.
They were focusing on the TV product not going to house shows and trying to fill up places, it doesn't matter how popular was was in Canada.
Bret was an overhyped IC guy, zero charisma. He never drew top money, his biggest angle was with Stone Cold because everyone wanted to see Austin bury his corny act. WWF blew up once Bret left.
@@nickr4837 thank you for saving my time not having to type this out
@@nickr4837Facts....
None of this mattered.
The reason he was chose to walk over HBK was limited personality adaptation. How Bret wanted to be and what he wanted to do wasn't what fans wanted to see moving forward.
Yeah the Screwjob lit a fire with Bret, so Bret wanted to go to WCW and do everything he could to stick it to vince and the WWF.
We need this shoot uploaded in full. It’s a 5 hour shoot in total. A great listen 👍
Unfortunately, Bischoff never talked about his time in TNA.
I can't blame Eric since he didn't like his time in TNA to my understanding.
I was not surprised that Bret did not get over in wcw because Hulk Hogan ran the show with Eric and Hulk was always worried that Bret was going to outshine him.
Vince McMahon never showed accountability for what he did to Bret or what happened to Owen
Dancing with the stars didn't begin until 4 or 5 years after WCW ended.
Obviously the WCW deal was already in place before the screwjob, not afterwards
Eric talking about signing Bret in 1996 which he now denies ever happened lmao
When did he say that here?
@@WWRNC”we almost danced”
The one that aggravates me the most about Bischoff and I’m
shocked NO ONE brings this up - he always says Bret was late.
Yet, countless of others (Big Show, Nash, etc) would get their early and they still didn’t know a finish until they walked out the match. In fact, Nash got there early to drink beer with Savage and Hogan - so Bischoff needs to quit blaming Bret for being late.
One more thing: Nash is on record saying he would write tv - then Hogan would show up: “Doesn’t work for me brother.” Then, they would have to re-write everything.
The Nitro format wasn't even known 15 minutes before bell time and he's worried about Bret showing up 30 minutes prior. Nice try Bish! Bret depressed? About what Eric? That his career was going down hill in WCW!
Bischoff was a idiot who had no back bone. The mainevent for starcade 1998 should have been Bret vs Goldberg with Bret breaking the streak by making Goldberg tapping out. If Hogan didn't wanna do business bischoff should've done what Russo did and said go home.
He'll no.At that time Goldberg was the King of WCW and Brett was Mr.WWF .Having Brett end that streak would have destroyed all WCW credibility
Bret should have been doing matches with all the top guys. They had enough to keep him occupied for a year or two and have him eventually get a title run.
Long-term, guys like Steiner, Mike Awesome, Goldberg and Rey Mysterio were the future. Benoit and Guerrero too if they stayed and were used right.
For someone who doesn't remember much Eric still had lots to talk about 😂
I Don't Recall... Its the start of Every question it seems with Bischoff i found that out listening to his Kayfabe Commentaries Interview regarding the Timeline of Events that Happened in 94' with Sean Oliver.. What is a 4 hour interview is at least 45 minutes of him saying "Too Be Honest I Don't Recall" its like that's why u're being interviewed is about things you do remember..
Yep... a lot of traits of a compulsive Iiar right there. Here you see him literally start with saying that as a quick knee-jerk response, then immediately contradicts himself IoI
"I don't recall. I think, if I- if I DO recall..." Ok Eric!
Such a liar when he says he wouldn't let Bret on Nitro w the WWF belt he definitely would have found a way cut the BS
I believe it was scott hall that said the screwjob was a work - i tend to agree
Eric 'I can't recall' Bischoff
I wonder why he lied about the mattrats involvement he's literally on multiple different contracts
Look.for the last time Brett only got done to him what Vince McMahon did too WCW wrestlers. And they should of
Owens death happened while bret was on the plane to Las Angeles Eric was waiting for him at the airport. Think about how that would affect you.. I dont blame bret or Eric life fucking happens
Bankrupt Bischoff SCREWED Bret!!!
Fd his A
Bret screwed Bret
@@NoneofYabiz-rx3ziChickenbottom SCREWED Chickenbottom
Bischoff lies
Bret's problems in WCW was because of two things, one physical and one mental. Physically he was getting older and feeling all the accumulated injuries he'd suffered over the years, he was slowing down and feeling the burn. Even worse was his mental condition, Bret always took himself too seriously, still does, and after the Screwjob his heart was no longer in the business, in WCW he was just running through the motions.
Brett Hart never put anybody over.
Maybe Sunny!
Bicshoff changes his story 3 times in this clip alone, hes just a liar trying to sound smarter than he is
funny how he mentioned rodman. shortly after him debuting i quit watching
I always had a fantasy that Bret would betray Hogan by joining Flair, Sting & Luger as The Four Horsemen in '99. Far better than what we got by him going NWO. Just my opinion.
Bret rules
I personally thought WCW had too many big name guys at the time and they didn't have any good ideas for Bret.
Too many that's stupid that's WHY WCW WAS GREAT AND WHEN RYSSO RAN EVERYONE OF THOSE NAME OFF WHEN WCW FELL
I think both Eric and Bret blame each other too much. Outside looking in, Bret was underutilized. Yeah, he was champion, but nothing he did was super memorable except for one or two things.
Vince McMahon should have joined WCW.
Imagine if Vince did a sort of WCW crossover like he did with ECW in 97 lol…of course the Turner executives would have to be onboard too but still
Is there a who killed WWE 83 weeks in a row. Blaming WWE staff
So Bret wanted to bring the belt.
Eric brought him in gave him huge cash. What else was he supposed to do for the guy?
Book him in good feuds from the jump(sting, hogan, whoever ) . Make money .
@@devinsmith7089
He was already making money. Vince is the one that dumped him and told him to leave to WCW. I think Bret is pissed off at the wrong guy.
@@jumbothompson Make the company money and get back some of that 2.7 mil per year.
No. Bad booking and Hogan reason why Bret wasn't Bret. Then Goldberg ended him
Bret faced a really complicated political environment in WCW. Too many veterans scheming against each other. It was easier to focus on his matches and take the guaranteed pay instead of constantly dealing with backstage adversaries.
Always working
Nicholas Dichead
Montreal was a work.
I was big fan of Hart Foundation tag team. For some reason, i never liked Brett as solo wrestler.
Same for me with Shawn Michael's, I think they should have put Rockers back together, but Marty might have been on the rocks at that time..
Bishops stuuuuupud booking
Yeh Brett was a broken man going wcw.
Bret was champion in wcw
I don't understand the whole he wasn't used right or he didn't live up to the $
Vince Russo made him champion. If you know anything about Russo's tenure in 1999 then you know why it didn't matter that he made Bret champion although at least he tried. Bischoff just had Bret tapping out to Lex Luger doing a single leg boston crab on Thunder (I'm not joking). There were quite a few moments like that during Bret's WCW run under Eric Bischoff.
@freebachelor5060 the starrcade 97 where he was a ref, I get the thinking but that night was a disgrace to wrestling
Bischoff brought him in as a referee for Him vs Larry Z. Name one other person who would introduce him as that ....
@kevinlee9929 but the plan was for him to then reverse the fast count in the main event which Hogan vetoed
Then to make everything worse they still went with the angle and it made all 3 , Sting, Hogan and Bret look like fools
@@briankregg6329 That's not how he was advertised though. He was advertised referring Bischoff's match.
This guy spends someone s else money 💴 and took down wcw with him 😮😢, Brett hart screwed his own career by leaving wwf😢😮
Bret Hart was pretty vanilla and should have never been champion.
Ditto to Shawn who also wasn't great. But over time Shawn developed mic skills and became decent.
Both were good as low card talent.
Couldn't disagree more with everything you just said IoI.
But I do still have a genuine question for you. So who would you say WAS a worthy choice for WWF champion in the mid-1990's then? Realistically speaking, out of who was actually there at that time before the Attitude Era kicked in.
@rowenpugner3872 WWF didn't really have a guy who could draw between Hogan and the Attitude era. They tried the strap on many guys and it just didn't work or make money.
@@rowenpugner3872 Lex Luger should have been the champion. WWF had classic heels like Sycho Sid, Razor Ramon, Vader to name a few.
Vince was an idiot to listen to Patterson and not put the belt on Luger in 93. Those old farts in the creative pushed Bret Hart to Vince.
The rest is revisionist history that Luger was never over.
But anyways when internet Hardcore fans think Hogan and warrior who were legit draws were overrated. And Bret hart in WCW would have been bigger than NWO.
Guys like Dolph Ziggler, Bret Hart, Shawn Michael were only over with the veterans, creative and hardcore fans and don't draw a dime.
Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels were the biggest flops of the 90s. Believe what you want. Hogan and Goldberg drew more money 1 or 2 years than Bret and Shawn in their entire career.
If fans were smart then Dean malenko would have drawn money. But wrestling is for kids and kids like superheros like Lex Luger.
Old farts on the internet still live in some delusion that Bret hart and Shawn had 5 star matches and people only cared for them.
@@MrSirMang Indeed.
@@MrSirMang wrestling as a whole diminished in the early 90s due to the death of the territories and the WWF staining the industry with the steroid scandal. Adults stopped watching since the main stars were gone and there was no longer a serious promotion to watch in most of the country - just cheesy New Generation WWF for kids and the even worse knockoff that was WCW.
In spite of that, Bret was pretty much their only success at that time, mainly due to his popularity when they went overseas - if it wasn't for their European tours then the WWF would've been in an even worse spot by the mid 90s.
At least Vince Russo made Bret the world champ but unfortunately Bret came in during the second year of the nwo
How bad do you have to be when even Vince Russo knows how to use Bret Hart better than you do? But, yeah, I always give Russo credit for that and the Mayhem main event that Bret was in.
Brett was not a US draw. Sorry, great wrestler, was just not good unless a baby face played off him. It's as if vince knew wcw would sink if brett went over.
I agree. And to me he always looked like he just got off a construction site every time you see him on TV. And he just never seemed comfortable in WCW
It's true that he wasn't, but it also largely wasn't Bret's fault either. Most of the time they either didn't know how to book him, or outright purposely stalled any small momentum they allowed his initial push to have. Of course, he was also never a good fit there from the start.
Ha? This makes no sense. "We signed Bret after the Montréal incident"...The incident happened because Bret already signed BEFORE that
YUP. This EXACT thought immediately crossed my mind the moment he said that IoI. Every time I hear Bischoff speak, I suddenly remember he's a compulsive Iiar and regret wasting my time.
Hmmm, another interview where he doesn’t recall.
More to come!
Brett the hitman Mark
Vince for president!
Bret hart to this day totally hates Eric bischoff
Yeah that's interesting and all, but I was there doing the Irish Whip with Bill Goldberg...
Kind of odd, considering he spoke positively of Bischoff back in the day….Bischoff was very supportive of Bret, especially when Owen died. Plus, keep in mind that Bischoff wasn’t even involved in WCW when Goldberg kicked Bret in the head…Bret should reserve that visceral hatred for Russo instead, like Cornette does
Bret did liked Bischoff at times.
At least Bret Hart likes Eric more than Oldberg.
Bret is a hateful man . Bret screwed Bret.
Bret screwed Bret
Bret Hart was entirely a Vince McMahon creation. He's like one of these modern wrestlers who's an "underutilized star" in WWE. people are excited for them to finally be free in other companies, but then they do absolutely nothing.
Cue all of the mental patients who pretend Bret Hart was anything more than a non-drawing journeyman mindcarder.
Just like Chickenbottom
Totally agree, he’s a slightly more muscular Canadian version of X Pac. Great worker, lame promo and took his character way too seriously. Guy is way too bitter
Wow you're really onto something here 😮
Bret is 100% a Vince creation
Bret Hart drew 82,000 people with Davey Boy as the IC champion in the main event. Literally nobody else in history has main evented a PPV as the IC champion and very few have done it in front of 82,000 people.
Yet he was 1 of the reasons WWF was still alive. Some of y'all don't know ish and your comments show it 😂😂😂
Bret should have been booked in to a couple of extended Thunder matches against Lord Regal and Ultimo Dragon. Those would have been cool matches to see. Bret joining the NWO was a reaction to Stone Cold facing McMahon for the first time. He had a couple matches apiece against Booker T, Lex Luger and Dallas Page for the US title but was otherwise buried among NWO Hollywood.
