Fun fact: when I was a little kid I thought Coral was named Carl, and just accepted that they were two gay fish. It wasn't until rewatching it as an adult I realized her name was not Carl. Knowing that clown fish can change their sexes though, who knows 👀 Also this was a really good analysis, very easy to watch for my ADHD brain. I liked the video 10/10
I was in a similar situation lol. I always heard her name as "Carl," but was always very confused why a female fish was named "Carl." XD But yes, who knows? Maybe she *used* to be "Carl," but is now Coral. :3
This is making me think of the scene with the whale and how Dory is telling Marlin that it’s time to let go. Not just physically but to let go of his fear and to trust others. Letting go of his wife’s death and to keep swimming. Great video by the way! 👍
I also watch this movie at least twice a year and have loved it since I was a kid! I really like your take Lemme share MY overthinking on this scene bc I also love to read too far into things: I've seen this scene in the context of unlearning ableism. Marlan at first doesn't believe that having a disability/something that hinders you is a neutral thing but a bad thing. He thinks that Dory is incapable of being right about something because she has a mental disability, just like he thought that Nemo was incapable of doing things on his own because of his "bad fin". And even though you can see right through the trench to the other side, he won't even entertain the idea that it's the way to go even thought Dory is very certain its the right way. (He later learns to trust both Nemo and Dory and realizes that they may be disabled and need accommodations/other ways of doing things, but they are still capable.)
I love that the camera has so much personality
