I started the year strong but have had multiple health emergencies in the last two months and things have kinda fallen apart. On reflection I think everything felt so out of control I wanted something I could control so I bought things. And I’m really proud to say I’m not beating myself up about it! Things were rough so I’m giving myself grace but now I’m going to get back on track. I’ve decided having a set number of things I can buy rather than a budget works better as im forced to be more careful with what the items I choose are and think about quality, where it’s from, is it most ethical vs just focusing on price. My whys are more about the behaviour than budget as it is for you but I think this approach will actually save me more money in the long run :)
great plan!!! sorry to hear about your health emergencies though, and I hope you're doing better now!! so glad you're being kind to yourself and just adjusting your rules to get back on track 💗
One thing I’ve done for my low buy this year is to allow tweaks each quarter if needed. I’m careful to not overhaul my rules but the quarterly adjustment helps me account for things I didn’t foresee at the beginning of the year, adjust priorities based on the season or what’s going on in my life, or have stricter or looser rules in certain categories if needed. For example, I have several weddings to attend / buy gifts for this month, so Q2 rules accommodated for gifts, travel, absolutely required attire, etc. and I have slightly stricter rules in other categories to balance out the spending. But I’ll probably tweak things slightly for Q3 and maybe give myself something to look forward to or a purchase I’m allowed to make.
Yayy, I listen to your all no buy videos constantly, your energy is unmatchable!! Please do a no buy tactics for us that are starting in the middle of the year this challenge! Love you Grace have a great stress free week! I'm sending you tons of love from Belgrade, Serbia!!!!
Thank you for this video! I think I need to update my rules. There’s been things I’ve wanted to buy and I hadn’t put them in a category so I’d use excuses to put them in the yellow list and make it “ok” when if I had thought about it in January it would have been on the red list
I saw tame impala when they were in Auckland during their last tour and it was INCREDIBLE. Easily top 5 concert experience imo. So I understand why you would see them no matter what!
UGH they're just so GOOOOOOD I am so happy that my favorite group ever will be close by and even if they do a "small tour", it'll likely include Auckland 💗
Ngl imo the crochet stuff counts as an experience bc you’re learning a new skill. ywim? becoming more self sufficient. it’s good for the brain. some hobbies def count as an experience. as long as you’re mindful :)
One thing we’ve decided to change is rather than a certain amount of times we can eat out in a week/month to just put a budget number on it and stick to that amount each month. It’s worked well for every other category, and when we did “too many” eat outs in a week (often a necessity due to crazy/unexpected schedules) we just threw caution to the wind and ate out WAY too much when it wasn’t necessary. So, hoping sticking to a certain amount each month will help rein that in since it has in other categories.
yeah I think it's really just finding a happy balance for each situation because obviously everyone's brain works differently! not to mention different circumstances, goals, finances, etc
@@gracenevitt Oh absolutely! That's what I love about a "challenge" like this, it can be curated to fit each person's specific goals and needs! Love the community that you've created around being more mindful with spending habits as well!
Girl 😍 I was shocked the moment I heard that your goal is to move to New Zealand… because this is my goal too! That’s why I’m on the minimalist/frugalistic path to achieve this goal! Maybe we’ll see each other there, haha btw I love your videos ☺ your voice is very calming
I'm kinda thinking of limiting my time scrolling on social media and mainly UA-cam to avoid the temptation of purchasing nonessential items, but I fear I might get FOMO down the line. And that I might miss the trends (the slang and informational stuff like that). What do you suggest I do? And finding a hobby is super hard for me because I have no interest in anything. My heart is just not into a hobby for a long time now. Maybe something is wrong with me?
nothing is wrong with you!! it's hard to find enjoyment in the little things when so much of our life is force fed to us in the terms of "listen to this, wear this, look like this, etc". it's almost an act of rebellion to take a step back and remove yourself from trends and expectations and consuming media and then find yourself amidst all of that! start simple by trying a few different things! find something that brings you joy, makes you happy, piques your interest, etc. take your time because it's a lot of "deprogramming" you could say.
If I were you I'd skip eating out (unless you're with friends) and use that money for a few summer pieces. My number one food rule is I don't go to a restaurant alone (this includes coffee shops and fast food) and since I live by myself I actually have to go out of my way to find someone to hang out and grab food with. I also have a bunch of easy recipes I can make in a pinch if I haven't been grocery shopping recently
yeah we're trying to be better about it. when we do "eat out" it's never a restaurant or anything, it's usually something cheap that costs less than $30 for the both of us to eat.
@@gracenevitt yeah but $30 will buy enough thrifted sundresses to satisfy the need. I think this is a good premise. Allow yourself 2x eating out a week, and if you don’t, give yourself permission to earmark that particular $30 you would have otherwise spent on things you’re feeling a little deprived of
it's not as much about the money as it is curing my shopping addiction tbh. I'm seeing what I can do with what I have to show myself that I am fine with what I have. if an absolute need arises then I will deal with it accordingly. currently that is me trying to get a few items for free (for now)
they were a promotional pair from lens crafters! I literally got them on sale from a little sample selection they had 😭 idk how helpful that is, but the style is basically just "round wire frame" glasses
oh woops I forgot to write that in my physical journal so I forgot to mention it! that's kind of a green/yellow light thing because it's only allowed for birthday and christmas! no random gifts just so I can spend money (because I'd use it as an excuse for sure)
I reallllly loved one of the holiday scents that they sent me (I think it was like prosecco and berries or something) but sadly it's only available during winter... I've only tried the linen one (of the regular scents) and it's okay! I'm excited to try more though.
Stray Kids ♥ tbh if they do a show in Paris I would go broke (but happy). It's on my yellow-ish green \o Have you listened to Mamamoo? It's a "mature" k-pop girl band, with amazing vocals, I love them so much.
I'm moving out of the country for my masters in the fall, and my boyfriend has to stay in the US for work): Moving can be easier to do if you're single (it's just expensive lol)
I think its important to remember that the point of a no-buy is to break a harmful cycle, not to self berate whenever we want things or buy things!
so so true!!!

Its really helpful to update rules whenever required because so much happens during a year. Love this video❤

I think adjusting every quarter is such a smart way to do it!!
