  • I'm mexican living in Vietnam and when I first got to Vietnam, I was scared because of the language.
    Many people spoke to me in Vietnamese because they thought and they said I looked like Vietnamese. I was feeling very upset and I decided that I needed to learn Vietnamese to solve the problem.
    The surprise was that Vietnamese wasn't only about many accents, It was about pronunciation and ages as well.
    I only know basic words but I'm trying very hard to be able to speak very soon. This is my progress being living in Vietnam for a month.
    What do you think? Are you learning Vietnamese as well? Do you struggle like me?

    Modern Vietnamese is like a combination between pronounce of old Chinese and using modern Latin alphabets. Over one thousand years ago, Vietnam use syllabling and wrtiting of Hanzi, like Chinese Mandarin now. But after five hundred years Vietnam created their own language which called Nom language. But Nom language too hard and not popular for normal people. In 1800 France came to Vietnam and they converted pronunciation of Vietnamese to writing of writing Latinh, it was easy than writing of Hanzi or Nom language, but France still tought French in all school at this time because it was not perfect language to using. In 1900 Vietnamese goverment innovated and agreed using language for all country and called Quoc Ngu. Till now modern Vietnamese (Quoc Ngu) is the most popular in vietnam today.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But now I find it easier to pronounce other asian languages like japanese and mandarin since you have to learn to maneuver and speak multiple tones when speaking vietnamese.

    the Vietnamese language has an average degree of difficulty, but the biggest problem is that there are no really good courses for foreigners who want to learn Vietnamese.
    Not surprising because the Vietnamese had more important work to do, such as rebuilding the country and the number of people who want to learn Vietnamese is limited.
    An additional problem is that anyone who can speak Vietnamese believes that they can also teach in it.
    In general they start with the pronunciation and that is completely wrong, is like building a house and starting with the roof.
    Subsequently, young people mainly want to practice English with you and practicing your Vietnamese is very difficult. My Vietnamese is very limited but the people around here understand it well. Other Vietnamese look at my Vietnamese friends and ask them what I say. If my friends understand, they should be able to understand it, after all, the Vietnamese themselves all speak a different Vietnamese.

    • @caovuonglam
      @caovuonglam 4 роки тому

      Pronunciation is really important though. How are you supposed to learn different words that are written the same but have different meanings?

    • @phu0n9c4yj
      @phu0n9c4yj 3 роки тому

      grammar is easy but learning the pronunciation will make you feel like your vocal cords evolved.

    • @ybor20
      @ybor20 3 роки тому

      @@phu0n9c4yj we learn to distinguish and to produce the sounds of our mother tongue during the first three years of our life, the next three years we learn the exact meaning of the words and sounds.
      It is technically impossible to learn to distinguish or to produce a language that is not close to our own native language in just some months or years. To speak like a local will take you around 10 year ...and then you will sound as local as long as people do not see you. When we see a foreigner speaking our mother tongue we presume that the foreigner will not speak it well and no matter how good the foreigner speaks it...it will never sound as a local.
      Nevertheless, pronunciation is very important, as the roof of a house..also very important but you do not start with the roof. So you first start with the grammar. The Vietnamese grammar is quite complrx due to the hidden problems, once you know them it is more easy to understand the grammar. Sadly most Vietnamese do not know those problems, they learned Vietnamese the first years of their life...without any grammar.

      @@ybor20
      what are you saying? xD
      grammar is like a common frame, set of rules for writing and speaking. what types of hidden problems you talking about? if they are hidden, I think its more of writing techniques, styles, that ppl dont often use for speaking and communication rather than classifying it as grammar.

    • @ybor20
      @ybor20 3 роки тому

      @@phu0n9c4yj it is very simple but also very complex, however not for Vietnamese because they learned their language the first years.
      The contemporary Vietnamese language is using the alphabetic writing. But the alphabetic writing has its typical audio based grammar, The problem is that the Vietnamese language has a visual based logographic grammar and those two types of grammar are completely different.
      For foreigners who are used to the alphabetic grammar , thy assume that Vietnamese has the sae grammar ut it hasn't.
      And that is only a small part of the hidden problems...
      more than half of the Vietnamese words are Sino-Vietnamese. They have a Chinese background and those words sometimrs follow the Vietnamese grammar, sometimes they don't and they follow the Chinese grammar. However, Sino-Vietnamese is a global term, it is more complex. There are the Chinese words from the Han-time and they follow another grammar than the later Chinese words. Then there are the loanwords from the Han-time. Some of those loanwords are original Vietnamese and some of those words follow the original Vietnamese grammar, other don't..
      And this is the easy part of the hidden problems...
