- A France Revisited Minute - Taps in the Normandy American Cemetery above Omaha Beach. Taps was first played in 1862 during the Civil War. The bugle call was arranged by Union Brigadier General Daniel Butterfield. Initially created to signal lights out at military camps, taps soon became a call to honor the dead at military funerals and memorial services. “We most faithfully honor past sacrifice by resolutely fostering equality and justice today.” www.francerevisited.com. My dad is 99 and served in the south pacific. Now he can barely dress himself. It breaks my heart but he is still my hero. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Rest in the Lord.

experienced it with the lowering of the flags a few years ago, a lot of emotions. I am from Normandy, on behalf of my French compatriots, thank you to the allies for their sacrifice.
I could hear it as i entered the Normandy cemetery and it ended just before i could see the bugler. It was beautifully, beautifully played.
Even in silence they still hear it
really sad that it used to be a lights out song during the civil war, it was likely played at a funeral the first time because their friends wanted them to rest easy knowing their job was done
God Bless our military.
"Lest we forget ".
Soldiers don't die they just fade away...
*They were so young our saviours...we must never forget theiy sacrifice for us*
*God bless America*
GOD BLESS YOU 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Never forgotten 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
how often is this done?
Daily, toward the end of the day, during the lowering of the second of the two flags by the reflecting pool.
🤲
If only we could bring these heroes back to life and have them help us fight the COVID tyranny all around the world right now.
Maybe man up and do it yourself.
TAPS was established after the Battle of Antietam. General Dan Butterfield of the Union didn’t like the lights out bugle call and wanted something soothing. He and a company bugler worked this out. The rest is history.
