There was a tracker also hooked on to the fin. They most likely tracked it down and got it off the shark or off the floor of the oven where it fell off.

Great hammerheads swim 90% of their lives rolled on their sides as a way of conserving energy and reducing drag by as much as 10%, courtesy of that enormous dorsal fin. It's a natural behavior that's only recently been confirmed in the wild.
True. Unfortunately the uploader cut the video too early. I would haved wanted to know how much his path got angled upwards the next seconds. I knew they swim sidewards but that angle was quite surprising to me. Only ever saw that upto around 45 degrees.

over9000713 It's very unlikely that the recording stopped. GoPros are notorious for continuous recording even through the roughest of falls. My GoPro 2 has survived and continued filming after being through fire, 100+ft falls. and even a few potato gun launches.

I love sharks and I am all for trying to find out more about them and understand their behaviours. However, I am disappointed that there was no disclaimer about the divers being marine biologists or any acknowledgement that this could hinder/hurt the shark if it is not done in the correct way. You can see the shark trying to 'scrape' the camera off- it is obviously affecting it. They are tough creatures but they are also highly sensitive and have evolved to be as streamlined as possible. The issue I see here is that gopro is a commercial product. I do not want to see someone getting injured attempting to do this on a holiday or a shark getting injured due to a bulky or awkward attachment. That said the footage is beautiful.

They (gopro) have previously included more information in other videos such as the Lions video with Kevin Richardson, so why not this one to clarify a few things.
