To be honest, as a Tech myself, I think people watch "mechanics channels" on UA-cam because they are trying to learn something and save money. So instructional videos of all sorts that you could make would most likely be popular, especially if you cater to the VW/Audi underground/niche Tuner culture. Channels like 'Scanner Danner' or 'South Main Auto' are some of my favorites because even though I may work in the industry I never stop learning. They're suitable for an Apprentice, Journeyman, or even a DIY backyard mechanic. Good for anybody who wants to learn with some sort of past experience. Channels like Scotty Kilmer are "lighter" on actual teaching of procedures and diagnostics. They just have auto-basics that are more designed as a general Q+A for people who know little about vehicles. Very entry level in my opinion. Yet still good for the average person and not too confusing. So yeah! Thumbs up! Knowledge is power! :)
@@HumbleMechanic can i do this with obd11 or do i need the vag com wire.... sorry new at this got a obd11 coming tom and car is 2010 a4 quatro 2.0 turbo... Ty in advance
This is great. VCDS is something I have lusted after for a while but as an enthusiast, it is more difficult for me to pony up the money. I know it is the gold standard of scan tools for VAG vehicles and one day I will have one. Thanks for the video, it nudged me further into wanting one.
Coding full scan and saving results is also important in case any of the modules with coding fail. When you have the original coding saved, installing a spare part and re-entering the same coding get things work easily just as they were working originally.
Great video, Charles! I think it would be awesome to make more VCDS videos, when it comes to software like this you can never have enough correct and useful information on how to use it.
Just got my copy of VCDS and controller. First thing I did was follow this video. Ran a scan and found that the auto wiper / headlight module was unplugged. After that I did the controller channel map and saved it. Good to know I have a good baseline for whatever else may occur.
Nice tool, in my car took 90 minutes to do the backup file, with the engine runing (no external battery available) I need more VCDS tutorials and info like this!
It’s the best thing ever. I got it to do recoding if some modules on my b5 a4, (has swapped tranny and an ecu from tunes 2004 passat) no problems at all anymore!
Wow wow wow, lol. Been going down the rabbit hole on your channel. Just became a “new to me” VW New Beetle Convertable owner. Been learning a lot on your channel. Can’t thank you enough. Hope I can get the top working very soon. Still learning a lot.
100% agree VCDS is a must for any VAG enthusiast. Whoever says this tool is expensive has no idea about the value it brings. I would say this tool is way under priced for what it does. Not sponsored :-) , just a genuine fan
I have been saying it's underpriced forever! BTW, this video is not sponsored at all. I want to support those guys for all they do for VW/Audi community.

More vcds videos!!! I went to run an adaptation on a 2020 q3 the other day and found out the hood needs to be open for it to run correctly. I’ve done plenty of other vw/ Audi and never had to do that.
Thanks for showing this! Thankfully OBDeleven records some of this stuff automatically too and was able to save my old Mk2 TT when the Bose amp somehow became un-coded (all 0s) and RossTech's guide was incorrect for my car.
