I love, love, love this song. The Principle of Moments (this one) is my favorite of his solo career. I'm In The Mood is another great one on this album
Oh no you didn't! Dude! I love you! You pick the best songs to react to! This is my FAVE Robert Plant!! Madness grooving! Actually, I love it equally with "Ship of Fools". If you haven't done that one yet, it's an absolute must! Peace and loves to you! Keep the great song reactions coming my way!!!
Robert was very popular in the 80s and 90s..He didn't hurt for attention .Check out 'Lay Down Your' Arms and 'Im In The Mood' ,2 songs from his early days of going solo
Great song... Robert Plant has great solo material, thanks for reacting to this lesser known classic BizMatik... good to see some fresh takes from reactors.
Planty 's solo career is STILL ongoing and still successful ! A friend of mine plays guitar in one of his bands, Saving Grace, which is more folk/acoustically based. He also has "Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters", who play major concerts and festivals and have influences from all over the place, and then as at present, he's touring with Alison Krauss. Not so many years ago there was also Band of Joy... Love that sound.
WOW! I just saw some videos of Saving Grace. Never got to see them live but shows sounded amazing!! I have seen all his other solo tours and twice with Krauss!
He really nailed this. I think it's his best solo song by a mile. I heard him talk about this song in an interview a very long time ago. I dont remember it super clearly, but he's talking about either being on his way to or from a memorable sexual encounter. I never really pay attention to the lyrics, but he sure nailed the atmosphere.
Ok Biz... I was just watching another reactor react to this song (uploaded 6 hrs ago) and ur reaction to this song was the FIRST in my thumbnails! It reminded me that over TWO MONTHS ago I requested and told you NEED to check out Robert's other MEGA hit solo song "IN THE MOOD"!! DUDE... I'm begging you... do "IN THE MOOD" by Robert Plant! It's a vibe, very Zeppelin-esque!!! 💯 Robert's vocals are awesome as always but... his personality shines through. Oh and btw, you asked in this reaction (Big Log) if Robert wrote the lyrics for Zeppelin songs and the answer is... YES!! He wrote the majority of the lyrics for Led Zeppelin. Of course, Jimmy Page wrote the guitar riffs and Bonham and JPJ wrote the instrumentals, but Robert wrote most of Zep's lyrics (Jimmy was involved in certain songs lyrically too!). Anyway, just popping in here again to tell you that you NEED to check out "IN THE MOOD" by Robert Plant. You're gonna love it!! To me, minus the other 3 boys of Led Zeppelin... that song is Robert at his best!! Thanks Biz!❤
@@watchbizmatik Thanks Biz and I forgot to mention something important about the music video for In the Mood... pay attention cuz towards the end of the vid, Robert gives a clever little nod to one of Zeppelin's songs and then looks straight into the camera with his "naughty" eyes!!😉😅 Let's see if you catch it! lol!!!😜
I may be wrong, but I think Robbie Blunt wrote this particular song ? He's a British blues guitarist, and a friend of Rob Plant. I believe it's him playing guitar here.
The most hauntingly beautiful song of Roberts solo career!!🎶 It came out in 1982 and was a huge hit! His 1993 song "29 Palms" is also a really good one you should check out as well as his 2014 song "Turn It Up" are so worth checking out!🎶🎸🎵 His legacy will live on in Rock History forever!!💜
Yes he has a podcast and it is awesome! You have to check it out! I could listen to Robert all day every day he’s a great storyteller. I’m glad that you’re still following him and I’m glad that Robert is still out there I’ve been trying to catch him live but he hasn’t been close to Tampa Florida lately.
Bizmatik, thanks for sharing your reaction. This album was very nice an mellow, hypnotic as another commenter said. Robert has been pretty successful as a solo artist but probably mainly with people who already were familiar with him from Led Zepplin. His songs did get some radio play. You should also check out his voice with the Honey Drippers. His rendition of Sea of Love is amazing!!!
My favorite singer EVER! Met him in 1988..yes, really, on his Now and Zen tour. Was lucky enough to get his autograph , along with drummer Chris Blackwell at the time. Just saw him in September with Allison Krauss. Great show. He is the best..IMO
I’ve loved this track since I first heard over thirty years ago. It’s perfect but what I love most is the sudden and rapid inflection from a higher tone down to a far lower one, for example at points like 6:10; “…red-eyed and fevered, with the hum of the miles. Distance and longing, my thoughts do collide: should I rest for a while at the side?” That last line’s drop is beautiful.
Nope, won't argue with you... Robert Plant is definitely best frontman ever!!👊 Although, I have to add Freddie Mercury right along with Robert!!🥰 For me they're tied for that accolade!!🤗 Anyway, glad you liked Robert's solo vibe. He's amazing with or without Zeppelin... PERIOD!!🙃 Oh, and about Robert's podcast, definitely check it out!! It's awesome!! And also, you gotta check out Brian Johnson's "A Life on the Road with Brian", SPECIFICALLY the episode with Robert Plant. I think you'd really enjoy seeing those two rock legends (GODS!!😍😜) having a chat!! Great reaction Biz and as always... you rock!!😎❤ As an aside: even though I love anything with Robert Plant (Zeppelin or solo work).... my all-time fav from his solo career is "In The Mood". Hope you can check that one out someday too!!😉
He wrote most of the lyrics for Led Zeppelin and his solo stuff. Check out "Sea of Love" by the Honeydrippers which was one he didn't write but covered beautifully. Thanks Biz!
This definitely gets top prize for the strangest title of a song! I love this song. Never thought I’d hear it on a reaction! Man, its been forever since I heard it. Thanks!
Robert wrote nearly all of the lyrics for Led Zeppelin though at first they leaned heavily on existing blues lyrics. Later he was writing all original lyrics. He would have written all the lyrics in his solo career - no point for him otherwise. You can tell it's his lyrics by the style of them - poetic and slightly obscure and sounding very personal. Notice in the video he treads on a feather which was his symbol in Led Zeppelin.
I got to see Robert Plant live supporting "The Principle of Moments" and it was fantastic. I was in the nosebleed seats, so it wasn't until the end of the concert when he introduced his band that I found out Phil Collins was playing the drums. I want to say Phil recorded some or all of Sir Robert Plants' first two solo albums.... both are incredibly talented. That was the only time I ever got to see Phil play live but it was such a treat.
This song and video were a big deal on MTV when it premiered. Such a moody broody song to drive to, windows down, volume up. I can listen to this 20 times in a row every time.
I took my sister to this concert with Plant and Bobby Blunt on guitar..First row..they finished and then came out to do the entire Honeydrippers album..every song..80's

Hey Barry whilst I agree there isn’t a bad song on Pictures At 11 Big Log isn’t on that album it’s from the following album The Principle Of Moments 👍👍😎
Robert Plant had a couple of great solo albums with beautiful songs like “I’m in the Mood” and “Big Log” as well as more up tempo rock songs like “Tall Cool One” He also fronted a band called “The Honeydrippers” who had a hit song called “Sea of Love” which is well worth a reaction video if you like Robert Plant’s soulful side. ua-cam.com/video/2BoUzzFXuVU/v-deo.html
Oh please do more Robert Plant's songs. His solo career was really amazing. Try "Moonlight in Samosa"; you'll love it I'm sure. His voice whether with Led Zeppelin or solo was and still is very sensual and hypnotizing - so soft and tender here❤️I do not argue-for me he's the best frontman of all time🔥thank you for his song post Zeppelin❤️
Oh no no arguing he was just flat out the best..Freddie Mercury was a showman, but Robert had the looks and just the on stage presence and confidence.,and the soulful voice.
"Rainbow" (it came out in 2014) from Robert Plant always gives me a happy vibe when I hear it. My ex husband hated it, which made me love it even louder after the divorce; (you know when you go from barely hearing the volume when it came on to full blown "I'm hearrrr"...I deliberately spelt here with HEAR before anyone "points it out"). I was looking up what year Rainbow came out and it said he (Plant) wished they were known more for "Kashmir" than "Stairway to Heaven". I hope everyone has had a great weekend. -Amber
The hotel in the beginning is the Amargosa Opera House and Hotel at Death Valley Junction. It is defunct now but has a lot of history. Very eerie. If you enter Death Valley from the east (off the 15fwy which connects LA and Vegas) you will see it. I always loved the main clean guitar lead lick in this.
Pictures At Eleven is a great album. Robbie Blunt on guitar does a great job and the whole album has a great sound. My favorite song from this album is definitely “Like I’ve Never Been Gone” 😎✌🏼

Besides John Bonham, suffering the ulimate loss...Robert Plant suffered the most lost over the years. His horrible car accident in mid-seventies, the terrible loss of his 5 year old son in 1977 and then his best friend John Bonham in 1980. Led Zeppelin was a amazing, powerful band but he had really considered never going back after his son's death and was thinking about being a teacher. The only reason he did come back was John Bonham convincing him. They did one album and started a tour and then Bonham died. Both Bonham and Page were deep in throes of addiction. It was clear at that moment it was finished for Plant and Led Zeppelin. SInce then, he has and still is bravely going where he pleases musically. I just saw him 2 weeks ago with Alison and he was magical as ever!
Robert Plant would definitely be in the discussion for greatest frontman of all time, along with Freddie Mercury and David Lee Roth, and of course Elvis.
DLR isn't even the best front man of his own group, but he certainly entertained us back in the day. The older I get the more I appreciate Sammy Hagar and Sammy can play some kick ass guitar...DLR can barely play the tambourine.
Plant wrote most all of the Zeppelin lyrics after the first record, or adapted blues phrases from others. If I were to recommend his finer solo material moments, I'd go with Sixes & Sevens, 29 Palms, Ship of Fools, Young Boy Blues, Moonlight in Somosa and Darkness, Darkness. To name just a few.
Led Zeppelin was the unique chemistry that the 4 members brought together - Plant, Page, Jones and Bonham... But after John Bonham's death in 1980, that band could not continue... Robert Plant had already lost his son Karac to a virus in 1977, and then his friend (since he was a kid) and bandmate died... so for years, the spectre of Led Zeppelin was very hard to bear for Plant. When he recorded his first solo album 'Pictures at Eleven' in 1982, he co-wrote w/ guitarist Robbie Blunt, and did the same w/ 2nd album 'Principle of moments' in 1983... He also launched his first solo tour that year, and refused to play any Zeppelin songs in concert. Robert Plant was a hippie in the 60's, and he grew up w/ soul, R&B and blues from the 50's and 60's, so that what he brought to Zeppelin creatively... as a solo artist, he could not recreate the power and heaviness of Zeppelin, so he went in a more adult rock style of music... his records in the 80's were fairly successful - both 'Pictures at Eleven' and 'Principle of moments' went platinum in the US (1 million copies sold), and his 1985 album "Shaken n' stirred" went gold (half million copies sold)... 'Now & zen' (1988) was huge hit and sold 3x platinum... 'Manic Nirvana' (1990) sold less, went gold... so did 'Fate of nations' (1993)... He couldn't match the level of success that he had w/ Led Zeppelin.
I have always found this song so relaxing - by far my favorite Robert Plant solo song
Another great Robert Plant song is Sea Of Love from the Honeydrippers
This has such a unique vibe to it - takes me right back to when it came out. Soothing and almost hypnotic.

Love Robert Plant, you should check out the song rainbow. I like the live version but both are good.
