I wrote this for myself ❤️ I am a women of valor, and will lift up those who hang low. I will lift by the grace of Christ and the power of godliness that is in me because I am a daughter of THE KING! I will plant life where others see barren. I will be the giver of good things to come. I will breath hope into others who have none. I will bring love and serve those who can’t love and serve themselves. I will be strong in my connection to God and my beloved family. I will make mistakes and learn and repent and turn again to Jesus. I will be a force for good and my house is a safe haven for those who have broken hearts and need refuge. I will keep connecting with my father and go to him when I seek guidance.
Jessica, I love this. I copied this in a letter to my daughter who is the first female military chaplain endorsed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. THANK YOU!
Your discussion of Proverbs 31 reminded me of a study that was done in Britain, in which researchers analyzed the tasks performed by hotel housekeepers as they cleaned hotel rooms, etc., and how, over the course of a day, a typical housekeeper performed the equivalent of a major workout such as one might do in a gym. They took a group of housekeepers and showed them exactly what kind of workout they were getting on a daily basis, and how beneficial such a workout could be. Thereafter, they tracked the fitness of the housekeepers over several months (there was no additional instruction or treatment; just the information). They also followed a control group that had been given no special information. They found that members of the study group lost weight and improved in fitness, while the control group experienced no significant changes. The mere fact of knowing that the work they were doing was physically beneficial was sufficient to magnify the beneficial effect of that work. Perhaps a woman who looks at the characteristics of a virtuous woman and recognizes some of those in herself might gain in faith by knowing that she already has many of the elements of a woman of valor, where previously she might have felt overwhelmed by her life or was blind to her own contributions to the lives of those around her.
I loved this weeks lesson. The Words of Wisdom and Words of love. Thank you Emily for sharing the tender event that took place between your sons. I could feel the love your son had for his brother in his time of desperate need.
Emily…I love your testimony and the sweet way that you share it with me…here. I strive to be a woman of valor and you encourage me to continue…even when it is hard. Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you David. Chapter 31 is written to and for men also. I know Emily is passionate about women but never forget the men. I raised boys and see them now treating their wives as the mother of righteous Kings. Utmost respect
Thanks for Including men as well as women. As a mother of only young single adult men I feel like they don't always get the support and encouragement they need. I am grateful when everyone is included as both sons and daughters of God are precious.
Wow I just loved that story about your sons. I’ve worked a lot with people who have seizures and I know how intense it can be. Your boys are amazing. Thank you for sharing your tender experience with all of us and how the scriptures directly linked to your experience.
As always, a great post. FYI for fortune cookies: 20 years ago, when my daughter got married, we ordered fortune cookies where we could put whatever we wanted in them. We put their names and the date on some of them and little mottos like "Families are Forever" and such. We gave them at the reception along with the other refreshments. They were quite a hit!
I adore the Book of Ecclesiastes. I am a Christian because of it. To me, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes are of greater value for day-to-day living than the rest of the scriptural canon put together. I have been waiting all year for this day.
Thankfully our YW recite a theme each week that reminds them of who they are their potential and sacred promises I believe this is an example of valor.
One of my favorite quotes is fron Margaret Naduald in Nov 2000 about how "Women of God can never be like women of the world." The whole quote is so good and goes right along with what you're talking about. I think it's unfortunate that modern feminism has distorted what a "strong woman" is.
I agree! I love that quote. I have it on my wall and read it often. It’s such a good reminder of what our goals should be. We have opposite aspirations from the world.
Emily, in my eyes you ARE a woman of VELOUR I always tell my daughter that I want to be like Emily. I LOVE your books too. You are a great example to all those who watch you ❣️
Tears. Oh, the tears this week! Yes, I’m using that scripture for our boys. Yes, I can see the invitation and considering of chapter 31. Yes, I’m implementing a new habit of Eshet Chayil on Saturdays. Yes, David. You gave the words my heart (and everyone else) needed to hear. Each of us have a contribution to bring in this restoration, “they’re not just nice words”. 💗💗
Emily, When I listened to the discussion on Proverbs 31 I had a strong impression that you should write a book about this. There is so much more that could be said about this subject and each of the verbs you listed. It would be a best seller for sure! Thanks to you and David for all you do!!!
FYI fortune cookies are actually really easy to make. I did it for my Sunday school class a couple of years ago. It’s really fun to give them personalized fortunes including something you know of their nature and personality and then using scriptures that pertain to them!
David and Emile Thanks for the Lesson, I have a Daughter having problem in her Marriage I wish both could listen to this lesson. You are Explaining to us, to save their Marriage. I Love you lesson. it also good for me. Thank for you're time.
Her candle goeth not out…in ancient homes there was a shelf (candlestick of King James translators) on which sat a clay lamp that sent a soft glow over the whole one room home…the wife had to rise to refill the lamp with oil during the night so it would never go out. It was symbolic of the mother keeping darkness at bay, lighting her home with her steady faith in God to protect them, but also a literal task the mother willingly did, night after night.
When teaching gospel doctrine 12 years ago I did put proverbs in fortune cookies for my class! It was fun! I wish I remembered the place in Salt Lake you could order empty cookies to stuff yourself.

☦📲 Amen. Reading the Orthodox Bible each day is so empowering. It makes me a whole new person, and it sets the start of my week just right ❤.
Thank you for sharing that tender story. At such a time as the chaotic nature of so many of our days. We
are so precious to one another

I have 3, type 1 diabetic sons. My oldest is named Caleb. I totally understand ALL of this. Thank you!
Thank you David. I am a dreamer of big things too.
You are a part of big things David! You are making a huge difference in the world right now! Keep it going!

I love the Proverbs Woman! I want my tongue to be the law of kindness. 🕊❤️
26:49 - Thank you for sharing this, David! I have had the same questions when my Analysis Paralysis kicks in. This is perfect! 🙏🏼
What you were saying about the worth of the wisdom made me think of Elder Scott saying scripture is a best friend.
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful perspective! It’s so, so needed!
What is the Hebrew text written vertically on the journal page?
Something that sounds fun for Trick or Treating (Trunk or Treat), make fortune cookies and hand them out with scriptures! That is the cutest idea!!

I love that aspect of Jewish spirituality, of being able to sit with the conflicts and contradictions in scripture.

I just want to add one thing to David your beautiful idea from the scriptures from Proverbs about
A Man’s heart deviceth… God picks the steps…
I would add- Whatever Dream is in your heart
It Was Placed There By God
And it is your call on your life
And as sure as gravity He will make it happen if you trust Him and commit to that dream and go through the times where it looks like nothing is happening- that’s where He is growing your roots and already has planned out everything for your wings and your crown! Our lives are meant for great things and He wants all our dreams to come true because He plans to fulfill them to fulfill His Plans. And I Respect and Adore you two so fiercely!

Amen to that! I'm an eighteen-year-old on the path to being an author, and I'm completely confident that that dream and goal was put there by God. He helped me develop the mindset to write and lead me to the trade school I'm in in a way that's nothing short of miraculous! And I know He'll help me achieve this goal.
I've been told multiple times by my trade school instructors (it's Christian-based) that God gave me this love of writing for a reason, and that my words should glorify Him regardless of genre or topic. I'm sooo excited to see what stories God will place in my heart and the effect (however small) they will have on the world.

I love the explanation of wisdom literature and how the Jewish people's approach - it's how I like to study but have often felt it's not allowed.
I like the perspective you share, but I'm think we miss out on comparing Job 29 with Proverbs 31 or rather the righteous man and righteous woman. We always look at the "list" of attributes ascribed to women in Proverbs 31, but never the list of attributes for men. Men also have a lot to do. ;)

I think the greatest danger of Proverbs 31 are the ideas planted in the minds of certain men who read the letter of the law but miss the spirit. It has been a burden to many women over the centuries.

There used to be a place in Minneapolis where you could buy defective fortune cookies
I just realized the clams on the worksheet are fortune cookies!
Unfortunately, the only thing I got out of Ecclesiastes is everything is vanity
The popularity of feminism even within the church has made some women triggered by prov 31
