      It was quite the adventure, at times I was afraid we had bit off more than we could chew. Which just made it sweeter when we finished it!

    Man!! This hike had everything you'd want from big butt cracks,beaver lodges, a boardwalk hugging the side of a cliff and ladders like you find on Grandfather Mtn. oh and the view from the top was absolutely amazing! I'm impressed guys! Great job on the video!.

      Enjoy! It's not nearly as bad as we made it look, LOL! We should have backpacked it instead of try to do it all in one day. Rock on!

    That was crazy guys, what a hike up the mountainside! It was so steep, and that river bed couldn't have been easy. The lakes are stunning around here, really beautiful. Well done guys, top notch!

      It was an accomplishment for us, for sure. I knew the hike up the backside of the mountain would be steep, but I didn't expect so much of it to be on sheer rock like that! Now I know better on what to expect in the Adirondacks, I'll be better prepared next time (and hopefully at a time when it doesn't get dark at 6pm!)

    wow what a crazy hike, that was quite an adventure for you both and you did so great, the views were so amazing up there and that terrain so challenging for sure!! Those ladders and rock scrambles were something else, not to mention the butt rock and seeing it from the top. Beautiful lakes and waterfalls. So glad you got down safely before dark!

      It was a fun adventure, but wore us out! Which just made it feel more like an accomplishment. I highly recommend the Adirondacks if you haven't backpacked there yet, we'll return sometime when the weather isn't so unpredictable and the sun doesn't set at 6pm, LOL.

      @@SlonesWildernessExpeditions would you say it's possible to backpack just to one of the lakes as an easier overnight? Do you need a permit?

    • @SlonesWildernessExpeditions
      @SlonesWildernessExpeditions  2 роки тому +1

      @@NicoleHikesalot Yeah it is definitely possible. We passed 3 "official" camp areas on this hike, with a 4th one not far off (they even have outhouses, LOL.) No reservations or permits needed, though there was a fee at the trailhead parking and a registration book to sign in at. On this hike, there was Marcy Camp near the Marcy Dam, Avalanche Camp right before the pass, and Lake Arnold Camp. There was also a camp on the other side of Lake Colden. From what I can tell, most of the trails (at least in the High Peaks Wilderness area) have these camps spread out. The Adirondacks can be a bit confusing, as there is no single management for it all. There is at least one trailhead (Indian Head) that requires reservations for parking. And of course, most of the wilderness does allow off trail camping, with certain conditions for how far off trail you have to be, the usual.

    That was an awesome hike. Super ambitious in the grade and gain. That lake side trail was pretty sweet with the over water walks. So you hiked across the bladder then up the butt crack! Lol. The distance and elevation gain of this hike is very similar to our hikes near home. Super steep and up the face of the mountain. Great job on your hike. The views were spectacular!👍😃 What a great way to finish a fall break trip. Awesome.

    Oh man you guys don’t mess around with this 6 am wake up hike. The lake was so beautiful but those wooden bridge did not look so sturdy. I like the music choices for this video. Dude 14 miles is no joke. We would not survive this. Thanks for taking us to butt crack mountain. That steep trail was nuts. You guys are so brave!! Always so fun to watch your adventures.

      If we can, on these big adventures, we like to start early. Partly to beat the crowds, and partly to finish before dark, LOL! I wouldn't have survived this hike just a few years ago either, and frankly, I wondered a few times during the hike if I was going to survive it!

  • @SantosChronicles

    That ladder is crazy but that view at the top is pretty sweet. You should just rename all the mountains 😂. Way to conquer this hike. Glad you made it before it got dark.

      Going up that ladder didn't seem like anything all that special, until you see the view behind it! I'm glad I got Catfish on camera coming up. Maps would be a lot different if I named all the mountains!!

    • @SlonesWildernessExpeditions
      @SlonesWildernessExpeditions  2 роки тому

      I can't give you exact times, this was the first and only time I hiked the area. But I can say there wasn't a ton of elevation gain from the loj to Avalanche Lake (maybe 1000' over the course of 5 miles), so it was pretty easy hiking, other than some muddiness and rocky trails. It is very worth it, even without climbing a mountain!
