I had an e-Golf in 2020, a 2016 Premium model, and was a great car to drive, fun, and quick. Even key less entry was a big thing in 2016 since not all cars did from what I've heard. The only downside was major for me, the lack of range. And sure "range is a state of mind" they say but if you have more than one car then yeah it is. Looking back buying a 2018 or newer would've been better. Sometimes I made 70-80 mile round trips. But the car is great for anyone who drives in town most of the time. I'd hope VW would still make them or offer the ID.3 in the US. The ID.4 is good but a smaller and more sporty version would be great and not so expensive.
It’s a sad thing that the Golf doesn’t come with proper batteries to get her going!! The batteries are proper enough for a town car, but not for a car that does regular trips on motorways or country roads.
I just bought a 2016 e Golf yesterday. Had to drive it north of DC about 200 miles to Norfolk Va. it’s taken me 25 hours to get there. I wish I’d seen some of these energy saving tips. I’ve had to make about 7 stops ranging from 1 hour to 6 hours. Thanks for all this info. Does anyone know how I can get it to charge faster? Seems the average time to get it close to full is 5 hours
Don't fast charge to 100% charging speed slows down above 75% just like with any other ev. Also if you're doing long road trips, kick it into eco mode and drive 110kmh. That will both extend your range due to lower drag but also lower battery heating. This thing has an air cooled battery (meaning no cooling) so once the battery heats up your charging speed will go down. It's usually good for at least two deep 10 to 80% charges before it starts to taper off though even when driving at full highway speeds.
Got my 2019 e-Golf yesterday... I'm in love..!! What a great car... No.. not the biggest battery.. But perfect to my driving needs..!!
Great to hear

Great review. Could one be done with the new upgraded battery pack that came with the 33kwh usable battery based on the mk7.5?

Agree! That's why I had to get a GTE instead. Hopefully they retrofit some new batteries as battery technology advances.
My 2017 e-Golf (bought new in 2018) has a proper pack. It has 70,000 miles on odometer. I take it on trips and commute with it.

Only charge to full over night/when you are doing something else. Charge to 70-80% on fastchargers.
2016 e-Golf SE had DC fast charging only as an option. You'd have to check if yours came with it from the factory.
