  • This isn't perfect by any means as a composite video.
One of the catchiest pop tunes from Lea/Holder that would have been a much better single release from the LP than How Does It Feel which should have remained an album track!
It bugged me that there was so little of it featured in the film, so as a vehicle for the track I have padded it out to make a passable retrospective of a forgotten Slade gem.

I so remember that day. Slade fan club members were offered tickets to go to the filming at the Rainbow in London. The guys went through the songs a couple of times. First they used their guitars as seen in the video then they used the Flame shaped ones for the film. Also remember Emperor Rosco doing the DJ and intros. What an experience. I’ve watched the film loads of times but still can’t spot myself in the crowd. Happy Days.

They should have filmed it at the civic hall in Wolverhampton, their local town the atmosphere there for their concerts was fantastic.

One of my all time favourites. Now 70. Remember not a good song to listen to after breaking up with a girlfriend. If my adult children see this I deny everything

Been a slade fan since I was about 8 yrs old in 1983 / 84 when Run runaway and My oh My were out. I so wanted my oh my to be number 1 . Well I apologise to all true fans of slade , I only saw Flame the movie last week on UA-cam for 1st time ever. Fantastic film and loved it . I'm now 47 and a grandad and my neighbours love my slade vinyl collection . Thank you

One of my favourite Holder/Lea compositions.
There must been fans of the group who have never heard it, or any of their LP tracks for that matter.
In the 70's the nation's exposure to pop music was strictly policed by the establishment. Pop was played on BBC Radio 1 on 247 metres medium wave and during the day their programme's producers would select single records for the disc jockey to play from artists such as David Cassidy, The Bay City Rollers and Slade.
Every day there was a fifteen minute news programme called Newsbeat that might include an interview with an artist such as Slade where they'd talk about their new album. The Newsbeat producer might select a snippet of a track from the album to play behind the interview but it would have to be the single from the album. If there was no single release from the album at all then he'd select an old single to play.
On Saturday afternoons betwen two-thirty and five the speed of the BBC's turntables would be altered to 33 and a 1/3rd and records by artists such as Yes, Pink Floyd or The Eagles would be played. The disc jockey would also read out the album chart but even if one of Slade's albums was at number one his producer still wouldn't instruct his DJ to play a track from it because Slade were a singles artist and they were the province of the producers who chose the records to be played the rest of the week.
I'd like to report that all this was swept away by punk rock or because Stairway To Heaven or Tubular Bells made such an impact. Or even that the CD, Michael Jackson or hip hop changed the landscape. I'm not sure that it has, Ken Bruce's producer selected a mix of albums and singles on Radio 2 but Radio 1 still thinks in terms or singles, let's face it they have to ensure they play short songs or they won't have time for all that talking the producer wants them to do.

I’m sorry, but I have to say it. This was not Slade’s best album (IMHO). It had two of their best songs in Far Far Away and How Does it Feel. Them Kinda Monkeys Can’t Swing probably makes the grade, but I was so disappointed with this album. This was a change down from their normal racket and I liked it not. I guess I really love their raucous stuff.
