why do companies nowadays use open floor office settings? I am a true introvert, highly sensitive to sounds/smells/motion/light; I feel horrible working in such spaces. Give me my 'old-fashioned' cubicle and I'll work harder and feel better at the end of the day as well.
Easier to keep on eye on you on all times. My company is fully open plan so they can count my bathroom and brew breaks and watch my screen as they walk past. They won't tell you that they're doing it, but in one on one's they'll bring these observations up.

I just wanted to say you seem like a really sweet person! I'm in Chicago and I teach kids for a living. I like meeting different people and seeing different faces! Every day is a challenge but that also makes it interesting. I'm not sure I could handle the office environment at all. I really wish you all the best and good luck in your career!

Hi Brittany! I was hoping your video would touch on what your daily work tasks looked like. I'm considering going to law school but wasn't sure if I would enjoy the day to day of what the profession calls for. I would love to hear about what your projects consist of! Thanks!
hi Jenna! I'm going to be making a video series on being a lawyer and I'll definitely include that in there. honestly, it depends on what type of lawyer you are and what kind of company you work for. generally for me it's a lot of contract review (customers and vendors) and then random things like employment or intellectual property issues.
This type of day seems so boring to me, idk how people can sit at a desk for hours on end and work. I prefer manual labor and always moving. Sure every now and then a job where I can sit down seems enticing but I could never actually keep it. Different strokes for different folks
one of the reasons I went to medical school is because I hate working at desk and i like moving , but it slept my mind that i'll still study at a desk a lot tho haha
I'm a practicing attorney in NC. I handle mostly business matters, contracts, etc. I focus on arts and entertainment mostly. I do it because I love working with people who are creative...and I get a lot out of that!!! It looks like you enjoy what you do also.
I am an undergrad and thinking about law school after graduation. I have been searching and prospects for lawyers do not look so good. You being in the field, do you think that the demand is good? is a law degree valuable?
it depends what kind of lawyer you want to become. honestly, it's not that huge of a demand and the competition is pretty high but it also depends where you want to practice (California and New York are harder to get jobs). I've heard a lot of people have trouble finding jobs after graduation.
Do not borrow 150K to go to a TTT (look it up if you don't know what it is) DO NOT go if you can't get in at least top 50. If you really want to go, try applying again the second year, maybe with a better LSAT. No amount of free snack is worth borrowing for a degree that doesn't pay and the only way to get paid in law is to work at a decent firm. After a few years at a firm you can probably get an in-house job that pays about half of first year firm salary.
mm I see what you mean, but at what cost? law firm life is definitely not good for work/life balance. I would rather make less but not work crazy hours.
P C honestly this is so weird. This year I am going to uni for undergrad and I am doing a law degree. What do you study before you can study law? It is a waste of time everythit you do before
you can study anything you want, most people do political science or psychology, communication etc. but it doesn't matter because then you go to law school to study the law.
I’m a startup lawyer also. First worked on east coast, now Midwest in-house then firm. It is definitely a different experience and can be innovative in how you structure your work day. It is not always glamorous if the company is very early stage with limited resources, or if you are working remotely. It can also be challenging (good or bad) picking work attire as a female, when everyone around is casual. One thing I would say is make sure you get enough Vitamin D and K2 (supplements and grassfed yogurt or milk) since you are inside most of the day and away from windows with sunlight.
I agree, it is difficult to pick work attire when there are so many people in jeans and tennis shoes. I am taking vitamin D supplements because of the lack of sun! Are you enjoying life at a firm after being in house? It always seems so crazy to me.
Hi, I don't usually leave comments on anything but I have to thank you for this video. Four years ago I clicked on this exact video and, for reasons I do not entirely understand, I suddenly became interested in this career when, up until this point, I was floundering around without any interest in a single profession. It was probably the schedule and amenities more than anything, but this kickstarted my research into becoming a lawyer. I had previously assumed this profession had a hellish work-life balance and, although sometimes it can, I'm happy to report that this was the right decision. I applied and got into law school two years later, and I will be finishing my second year this spring. I was so frightened that I would never find an area of work that I resonated with, but I finally found it. I know you might not have been expecting this sort of response from a day-in-the-life vlog, but from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
@BrittanyTran health, medical mal, or environmental, depending on how these electives treat me. I was hoping to be in house, but after learning the benefits of either side, I would be happy working for a firm too :)
My typical day? I work at night so my day is only half because I sleep half of the day. Wake up @1030am to make late breakfast, catch up on my emails and phone calls while I digest my food. Go to the gym @130-3p, pick up food after then eat. Take a nap for an hr then get ready for work. Weekends are very different, since I work Sunday through Thursday night, Fridays I usually take a long drive and come back home Sunday around lunch time. This weekend I’m staying in Palm Springs California for 2 days.
I'm super jealous of your late start to the day! I work 8-4.30 so need to be up at 6.20ish to get ready and to work on time! Also all the food at work, that's amazing!
It’s 9:22am and I’m still at home. Not feeling well so I texted my work’s Whatsapp group saying that I’ll be in late. I’m a researcher in a university. I usually reach the office at 7:45am (otherwise it is impossible to get a parking), but technically my hours start from 10am to 6:30pm. I also routinely go for a short 15 mins walk with a colleague after lunch. It’s good for our mental health
I peeped Lee playing Lucio in Overwatch. He's one of my fav characters too! Very nice video. I like the healthy diet too. I try to eat healthy, but I keep failing... 🤔🤔🤔🤔. Keep up the good work!
I don't think your life or the video is boring. Very admirable, respectable, and very cool (to me). Weekends are for shenanigans! Work work and then play. Keep up the great work and great videos.
Wow, cool to see your daily routine. Seems like a great job. All the jobs I have had in business, education and communications were difficult, no lunch and treats catered each day or such a nice environment. You truly are blessed.
Good question. The legal profession is pretty conservative so I would say no if you are trying to land a firm job etc. but if you end up working in house at a tech start up I don't think it matters.
The Lord Jesus Christ loves you unconditionally!!! "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6 KJV). Thank you for reading. "The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace" (Numbers 6:24-26). Have a good day! Amen in Jesus Christ precious name. "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV).
I'll probably do a video on it but honestly just apply to a bunch of jobs even if they seem "beneath" you just to get your foot in the door. and apply before you take the bar.
thanks for sharing but I felt like you didn't differentiate it at all from any other person who lives in New York. I was expecting to see specifically what a lawyer's work is like in NY, and I understand that you obviously can't share confidential information, but there was no information at all except that you sometimes have a quiet booth for phone calls. Just some constructive criticism
yeah, the purpose of the video wasn't really to get into the legal profession more so than just showing what a typical work day is like for me (and I happen to be a lawyer that works in New York). I will do a more detailed video on what I actually do at work but it really is just physically me on the computer haha.
I am currently studying at a law school in the UK so graduating/the education system to become a lawyer is somewhat different. I personally would prefer to be an in house lawyer for a company, I would just like to ask what are your daily tasks? I know it would change day to day but are there certain tasks you repeat daily?
I think it depends on what your responsibilities are for the company you work for. since it's just me and my boss my day to day differs because it's whatever the company needs assistance on. I would say that 50% of my work is reviewing contracts (both vendor and customers) and then a lot of the other work is dealing with employment issues. So a lot of contract drafting, negotiating and redlining each day.
Brittany Tran Hello Britanny! Mind if I ask if you plan on engaging in litigation practice in the future? It seems like this in-house lawyer lifestyle is good by I wonder if you did ever consider litigation. Im planning on taking the California Bar by the way, so a video about that would be great! On a side note, my girlfriend is taking the NY Bar so that got me thinking if ill just take the NY Bar too. Im inclined to take the CA Bar since i think i will love the weather there compared to NY :p
hi! I do not plan on doing litigation in the future. It's just not for me and I don't enjoy going to court, haha. I prefer transactional law. I will definitely be doing a video on the California bar. I would suggest taking it where you think you'll end up practicing. Both bar exams are difficult, I can't imagine taking more than one bar but if you really want to move to New York to be with your girlfriend go for it! Or you can try to find jobs that dont require state specific bar exams (federal, immigration, in house...).
I’ve always dreamed of living in nyc and being a lawyer and walking to work like that’s what I can picture myself doing but I’m super scared of the debt and stress of law school I’m only a junior in high school but it seems like schools are really pushing that you need to know EXACTLY what you want to do now
I really loved your video, it was so inspirational! I'm a high schooler interested in being a lawyer in NYC like you :) Do you have any tips to share with younger students? Also, does it matter where you go to law school, undergrad, etc?
hmm, I'm planning to do a video about applying/getting into law school. I don't personally think it matters where you go to undergrad or law school as long as you are able to pass the bar exam and make connections. I do think it matters where you go in terms of location (if you want to practice in California, probably better to go to a california school). in addition, if you want to practice in a certain area of California it's probably better to go to school there.
in our country our day of work starts at 7:45 - 12:30 pm then 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm. but this only applies on the government, while the private sector usually starts at about 7:30 am if im not mistaken and ends at 5 pm. its amazing for you sharing this video! btw, are you like a ‘Legal Advisor’ in a company?
It’s a passion for me to be a deportation defense lawyer but like I get scared If it will be stressful cause I would love to have a life with my kids and husband in the future
Actually, all the immigration attorneys I know have good qualities of life. Immigration court isn't open at night and most immigration attorneys work at smaller firms or are self-employed, so they have more control over their schedules.
I just finished law school today, from Australia. Contemplating whether to pursue law till the day I die or just get any job possible. I think your jobs sweet just on the basis of the food you get to eat. That kitchen is something special why would you want to leave work if your work is like an open supermarket freely available to eat LOL
Brittany Tran cool! When did you graduate? Was it hard for you to find a job after graduation? I’m starting law school this fall! I’m really excited and anxious at the same time lol. I’m waiting on one more letter before I make my final decision about where I’m going to attend.
I graduated in 2014. I got pretty lucky and found a job in April before I graduated. They waited for me to take the bar and then I started in August. Law school is an interesting time haha, I personally hated law school and it was some of the hardest 3 years of my life! I'm glad it's over now but it was a struggle. Just stay on top of all your studying and just know there will be multiple times you will question if it's worth it or not. Feel free to email me if you want additional information or advice! Good luck!
Brittany Tran that’s great! I hope to have some good luck too! I’m definitely going to make sure I stay on top of my reading and studying. It’s good seeing someone who isn’t a “TLS oh no don’t go unless it’s T14” type of person working as an attorney after school. Thanks so much for being open to giving advice!
Ahhh!! This is my first video i've watched of yours, i'm studying for the june lsat & plan to go to law school right after undergrad and i live in nyc so it's really awesome to see a fellow NYCer on the same career path! subscribed, definitely looking forward to more videos!
aww I'm glad that I could give you some insight into what a career in law could look like! I will definitely be doing more videos on my path and how I got here :) good luck on your LSAT!
What's your day like? Is it similar to mine?
Brittany Tran no not that lifeless

Why am I watching this Im in healthcare lmao
we can't help but wonder what other people's lives are like :D

Just remember that there are more than one field of law so don't listen to those who say ignorant things. Law can be very exciting.

they really are!
Every job has free lunch if they don’t catch you!! 😊
It is so awesome that it almost makes you forget you are working while you eat.

That tech start up is quite nice got snacks and shit to eat !
yes, it's such a great perk.
They con their staff into free snacks but she probably gets paid shit.
on the contrary, I get paid well!
But not that well!
Double J Why so negative?
I love this! Thank you for letting me know. Do you know what type of law you will be going into? Are you hoping to go in house like I was?
@BrittanyTran health, medical mal, or environmental, depending on how these electives treat me. I was hoping to be in house, but after learning the benefits of either side, I would be happy working for a firm too :)
That subway scene made me miss NYC a lot. Wah... Will have to visit soon.
Also nice workout and pj shirt 😉
haha I like how you recognized my shirts
My typical day? I work at night so my day is only half because I sleep half of the day. Wake up @1030am to make late breakfast, catch up on my emails and phone calls while I digest my food. Go to the gym @130-3p, pick up food after then eat. Take a nap for an hr then get ready for work. Weekends are very different, since I work Sunday through Thursday night, Fridays I usually take a long drive and come back home Sunday around lunch time. This weekend I’m staying in Palm Springs California for 2 days.
Amazing how lawyers can get ready in the morning without seeing their reflection in the mirror
Working in the legal department of a company is not the same as prosecuting or suing or whatever
I'm super jealous of your late start to the day!
I work 8-4.30 so need to be up at 6.20ish to get ready and to work on time!
Also all the food at work, that's amazing!
wow that is early, although I guess you get out earlier than me :P
My life wakes up
Shower
Breakfest
Drive to school
Starbucks
Classes
Time with friends
House
Homework
Playing in internet
Sleep
It’s 9:22am and I’m still at home. Not feeling well so I texted my work’s Whatsapp group saying that I’ll be in late. I’m a researcher in a university.
I usually reach the office at 7:45am (otherwise it is impossible to get a parking), but technically my hours start from 10am to 6:30pm. I also routinely go for a short 15 mins walk with a colleague after lunch. It’s good for our mental health
Omg your office looks amazing! The break room is crazy nice!! Also caught your husband playing overwatch 😬😬😬😬
LOL yup...his usual state.
I really love your videossss!! PLEASE continue making these..we really need this kind of inspiration!!love you😍😘😘
I peeped Lee playing Lucio in Overwatch. He's one of my fav characters too! Very nice video. I like the healthy diet too. I try to eat healthy, but I keep failing... 🤔🤔🤔🤔. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for sharing this!! Your day in the life of a lawyer is by far the best one I've seen on youtube.
thank you!
I absolutely love your videos! I am a 42-year-old wife and mother of 3. I am considering law school and your videos have been a Godsend.
I'm 15 and I've always wanted to be a lawyer.
I absolutely loved your video, thank you for sharing a day in your life 😊
do you ever get worried that your hair might get stuck while you're zipping up your coat?
haha I have a very specific way of pressing down on my hair when I zip up so it doesnt get caught but it has happened before :(
Very nice video on a life of a career adult. Thanks for sharing.
The snack game is insane. What is my life?? I'm a teacher and I still have to pay for the square lettuce they call a salad. Lol
I don't think your life or the video is boring. Very admirable, respectable, and very cool (to me). Weekends are for shenanigans! Work work and then play. Keep up the great work and great videos.
+Becky Ann thanks!
This video popped up on my recommended and I'm glad I clicked in! Subscribed :)
awesome thank you!
Wow, cool to see your daily routine. Seems like a great job. All the jobs I have had in business, education and communications were difficult, no lunch and treats catered each day or such a nice environment. You truly are blessed.
Awesomeeeeee!!
I like your sense or hygiene and cleanliness
Most people wouldn't shower twice
Compared to others•●●□you're one of the cleanest UA-camrs around
Hey, I have a question,
Can lawyers have their ears pierced during performing their profession?
Thank You.
Good question. The legal profession is pretty conservative so I would say no if you are trying to land a firm job etc. but if you end up working in house at a tech start up I don't think it matters.
Brittany Tran Thank You 👍
I love all of your vides. Im finishing up my first semester of law school im so glad I found you before I began classes
I've always wondered how it would be like living in New York and San Diego. Definitely eye opening.
Great video! Do you have any tips on how to get an in house counsel position right out of law school?
I'll probably do a video on it but honestly just apply to a bunch of jobs even if they seem "beneath" you just to get your foot in the door. and apply before you take the bar.
that's the best thing to do in the morning.. daily devotion
Must be nice to start your day at 8am....
it is, haha. I take it for granted.
lol what treat , getting up at 8 and getting out of your house when there is light
thanks for sharing but I felt like you didn't differentiate it at all from any other person who lives in New York.
I will do a more detailed video on what I actually do at work but it really is just physically me on the computer haha.
ah gotcha. yeah, it may not be the most exciting video for some viewers, but personally, I'd love to see it! thanks for the response
Good video, quite modern office layout. Decent job to have. First of your videos I've seen.
Roanna May hey I’m from the UK what uni are you studying at?
I’ve always dreamed of living in nyc and being a lawyer and walking to work like that’s what I can picture myself doing but I’m super scared of the debt and stress of law school I’m only a junior in high school but it seems like schools are really pushing that you need to know EXACTLY what you want to do now
you'll be fine! you have college to figure stuff out.
I would love to have you as a mentor! Looking to do something similar to what you do.
look out for my next series about becoming a lawyer :)
Great Day in the Life Video! It was so dark when you left your office though, what time did your workday end!
I leave at 6pm!
could you do a video about what exactly you do at work and other work options when you're done with school?
great idea! I'll definitely film a law school video/taking the bar exam/looking for jobs.
Thank you for the video awesome- look forward to the video about what you do/work options! Graduated and unemployed 😭. Keep being awesome!
Could you possibly make a video about what kinds of tasks you are given on the daily at the start up company you currently work for?
yup! it'll come soon :)
Great video
in our country our day of work starts at 7:45 - 12:30 pm then 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm. but this only applies on the government, while the private sector usually starts at about 7:30 am if im not mistaken and ends at 5 pm. its amazing for you sharing this video! btw, are you like a ‘Legal Advisor’ in a company?
yes, I am.
How do you like taking public transport now? Have you gotten used to it? :)
yes! it's actually really convenient because you can do stuff while you're on the subway and you dont have to deal with traffic...only train delays :(
Thank you! your videos are so honest, real, and helpful
seems like alot of frivolous things for a start up. Save that money for where it counts since most startups fail you are already on a uphill battle
It’s a passion for me to be a deportation defense lawyer but like I get scared If it will be stressful cause I would love to have a life with my kids and husband in the future
Actually, all the immigration attorneys I know have good qualities of life. Immigration court isn't open at night and most immigration attorneys work at smaller firms or are self-employed, so they have more control over their schedules.
dude your office looks nice!
I just finished law school today, from Australia. Contemplating whether to pursue law till the day I die or just get any job possible. I think your jobs sweet just on the basis of the food you get to eat. That kitchen is something special why would you want to leave work if your work is like an open supermarket freely available to eat LOL
Haha I love this. Makes me nostalgic for the East Coast =)
there are times when I miss California though haha!
The grass is always greener on the other side ;__;
I love you. Thanks for sharing. 👀 looking forward to seeing more!! Subscribed. ✊🏽
Nice! Where did you go to law school?
Chapman University School of Law in Orange, CA!
Thanks so much for being open to giving advice!
definitely! I know lots of people who didn't go to top schools and still got good jobs :)
