  • WARNING LONG VIDEO
    A customer complains about her father's seven-month-old Go-Go LX 4 Wheel scooter saying, "it just stopped working at the airport on the way to Hawaii" Watch out for that sand in the airport people!!! After many hours of tearing down and reassembling I finally get to the bottom of what's going on with this Go-Go LX.

    You are awesome. You never give up! This is something my father taught me, a person who used to fix things too. I watched the whole video. Your customers are lucky to have you.

      @@lasvegasscooterslifts I'm searching for a new scooter. Do you think I should stay away from all LX models?

    • @lasvegasscooterslifts
      @lasvegasscooterslifts  Рік тому

      Personal, yes if you use the scooter for long distance but hopefully pride have sorted the transaxle problem now. You could also try the Endurance Li same platform as the LX but with Lithium battery. Or the ZT8 twin motors so no transaxle but heaver scooter, great turning radius.

      @Las Vegas Scooters & Lifts My problem has always been that my legs are long and could cramp. I have neuropathy and arthritis. So I need a longer footbed than most people. Don't know if I will fit in the endurance. I have a 32 to 34 inseam. Maybe the seat can come back? Any ideas?

    • @lasvegasscooterslifts
      @lasvegasscooterslifts  Рік тому

      Hey Larry, all the travel scooters have fixed seat positions and do not move forward or backwards. Only the Pride Victory 9 and 10 and LX sport have front to back seat adjustment. My advice would be to try and find a good dealer if you can where you can sit in several scooters and may be even a power chair to make sure you are going to be comfortable for your legs. Try looking a some of the specifications on some of the Golden products as they seem to have a longer footboard e.g. BuzzAround LX has forward and back adjustment too.
      We could always dropship to you if you can't find a local dealer.

      Merry Christmas John and thanks for watching. You would think living in the desert here in Las Vegas I would be used to having problems with sand in scooters, but no I skipped right over that one D'oh LOL.

    Hi Ian, great video. Sand is a big problem I see it all the time over here in Corfu. I would of loved to see the unedited version of this I think it would have been funny.
    Any way Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and your good lady.

      Hey Clive and Merry Christmas brother, yeah there was a LOT of huffing and puffing and head scratching going on I can assure you lol. I should have tested the scooter after I blew out the sand before spending hours taking off brakes several times. The weird thing was when the scooter stopped working, I kept the throttle pressed then released the brake the scooter proceeded to move ok 🤦 I'm expecting this this thing to come back in.

  • @cliveharmsworth2894
    @cliveharmsworth2894 Рік тому

    Hello Ian, I have stopped this at 59 minutes, at about 30 minutes you tested the wiring/ connection and there was a fault at that point, I am thinking that is the problem not the transaxle. But I will shut up now and carry on watching. See you at the end.

    Hmm, I have had walking and standing problems, and have been using my old Pride Elite Traveler, sometimes on hard sandy dirt, to support my RC model plane flying hobby, for many years. I did have the electric brake replaced years ago, maybe due to dirt entry. I have not tried to wash the scooter and it has not been rained on. Operating mobility scooters on dirt and washing them afterwards is probably to be avoided.

      Oh, for sure. I remember when I first started messing with these things and spraying cleaning fluid on the brake to find out I destroyed it. 🤦‍♂️

    I have a lx sport and have gone through three motor and six batteries in two years ,not counting tire and suspension parts. The VA said it was worn out and ordered me a new one.

      You must be a frequent user of the scooter. I would of questioned why it would need a motor the second time.

      It's my only transportation so I go everywhere in town on it. Including the VA which is 7 1/2 miles away and I make 2 or more trips a week. Then there's trips to the store ect daily

    • @lasvegasscooterslifts
      @lasvegasscooterslifts  Рік тому

      If you are refiring to the little black square block on the rear section near the rear connector, as far as I'm aware it's a suppressor to reduce EMI RFI, magnetic and electromagnetic interference and radio frequency interference. Ian

      @@lasvegasscootersliftswell I never, always wondered what that bloody thing was, had 1970's moped that had a suppressor in with the contact spark points, but everything was old tech then, I didn't think with all this modern tech malarkey it would still be an issue, but Every Day's a School day 😊😊😊

    It seems that sand in the brake switch was causing a switch contact issue. I'm guessing the controller does not see the switch in the proper position and stops the current flow to the motor. Or I suppose the connection on the brake switch could have an issue too. When the scooter stopped moving. Could you of turned the key off and then back on, then listen for a five beep code indicating the brake switch is in a disengaged position. I guess you would want to monitor if the motor is getting proper power when it is not moving. If it is then motor or transaxle is bad or the brake is not releasing. If no power then the controller is not sending out power due to not seeing a signal it needs to see or bad connection on the thick power wiring coming from the batter or going to the motor. I learned a lot watching your video. Hope this will help me fix my Moms mobility scooter if it has a problem.

    Hi Ian!! Quick question; My friend and I were unloading HIS Victory 10 3 wheel scooter at last years Daytona Turkey Run car show and caught it on the mounted ratchet on the lift. We broke a clean triangle piece off that contains the side reflector. What would be the best/strongest way to re-attach it please? Really don't want to replace the entire floor section. Thank you!!

    • @lasvegasscooterslifts
      @lasvegasscooterslifts  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi Richard, you can imagine we get this kind of damage to our rentals all the time. Usually if it doesn't affect the safety of the scooter or cause any bodily harm to the passenger then we leave it. I have used super glue in the past, but it always brakes. Epoxy or JB weld could be another way of fixing it. I was thinking of getting a plastic hot welding kit to see if that would be any better. Have a good one.

    I just picked up a LI. It has the larger lithium battery. Why don't airlines allow that battery. Are there any exceptions?
    I am just north of you and if I can't take the larger battery do you sell the other one?
    What is the cost?

      Hey Bryan, I spent about two days fudging around with this. I can't remember now how much it was probably about $50 £40. Partly I took her at her word that she said it broke down at the airport here in Las Vegas when in actuality it was from them running it on the beach in Hawaii. She has since returned but not for that scooter breaking down but for another scooter that needed replacement batteries.

      @@lasvegasscootersliftsHy Ian thanks for the reply, this is the same transaxle motor and brake I am having trouble with on a Pride Apex Rapid in the UK, I think they must have different names for the same models over the pond in the US
      it's a brushless motor, since watching your transaxle video, that was my first visit to your channel I have been completely hooked, and have slowly been working my way through them, they are extremely informative and well explained, and you don't edit your mistakes, like most channels, have you done a video on brushless motors and how they work, and a really relevant question ror me that I would like to ask you, do brushless motors when running get really hot, plus the transaxle, and could it be heat transfer with fom one to the other due to conduction, is it normal for any of this, carnt understand how your Subscribers aren't in the Thousands, your videos are Priceless for bloke's like me who like to fix things themselves, please never stop making them, many thanks from me, Bryan Bailey from Doncaster Yorkshire England 😊👍👍👍

    • @lasvegasscooterslifts
      @lasvegasscooterslifts  Рік тому +1

      Thank you Bryan and I'm so glad you like the videos. As far as I'm aware all the motors used on these scooters/power chairs have brushes in them and only a select few of the newer light weight powerchairs may use the brushless motors (weight saving). I've had nothing in for repair where it's been a brushless motor but as soon as I do, I will surely do a video about it and strip the thing apart. 😃 Hot motor can mean either worn motor or worn-out transaxle or both but could also be loose negative battery terminal.

Unfortunately, while running this business and helping my friend Drew I do not have the time or have the money to spend on an editor to translate the videos to other languages. The auto subtitle detection has a problem with my accent and would take me hours correcting all the miss detected words. lol Maybe in the future It could be something that could be done. Sorry Ian.

      I just found your channel and so far it's great. I think part of the problem is that on another channel they are always driving their mobility devices on the beach and thru puddles, so people think that it won't hurt or damage their own devices.
