I think a lot of people stand with me and think the AFL need to look at players with insane footy instincts and natural talent rather then just athletes. The quality of ball control and footy skill execution has drastically decreased this last decade
I think this is a shift in a lot of sports where the focus increasingly moves towards finding athletes rather than the type of player you are referring to. It's certainly happened in soccer. I think the notion is that you can't teach someone to jump high or to run fast, but you can teach them skills. It is a more informed way of recruiting, but it is also a lazier way of recruiting when you overly focus on these test results. Thankfully they still look at what players achieve on the field to assess those instincts you referred to.
Despite that jumping ability he was only taken at 62 in the draft. Rupturing his achilles tendon in his debut game didn't help and he's had a lot of injuries since. North must see something in him, otherwise they wouldn't have extended his contract a couple of months ago when they were cutting other players. I'm always doubtful about a positive future when young players have a lot of injuries.

No point being able to run if you don't use your voice and can't get the nut

Kiaron Hayden had a pretty handy AFL career....

I know they shouldn't draft athletes, but Josh Schoenfield is far from elite. The Wa record for 3k u14, is one second faster
