Another DTC brand to consider is Ram. Custom fitted set from 5-pw, can go to 4-gw, choice of shafts, grips, length and on some models lie angle too. £300 for a set of their fxx or fxt irons.
Ive been to China and been to some factories that makes golf clubs for most of the brands. And I was there invitet by on of the biggest brands equipment development bosses. And of course i meet the factories owners and bosses. They all told me about cost and development of golf equipment. Most of the factories had hudreds of golf clubs they made for them self, they had very advanced research departments and you could go there and just show your idea, and or use their clubs for your own brand. This was not just golf clubs, it was shoes, and a lot more equipment for any sports. I can say a big brand driver cost about 20-30 $ to make with shaft, grip and headcover. And to have it send to America. A set of irons about 8-12$ for each club. The American club develop bosses told me that 70-80% of what you pay goes to commercial (that say they put in a lot of research 😂😂)and paying players. That's why many small internet brands without commercials and paying players can be so much cheaper, and i can say you will notice that one day they will become more expensive because they need to do more commercials and mayby pay some players. I guarantee the golf clubs still cost the same to make.
Bought a set of these off Ebay over a year ago for £230. 5-PW and even came with a Lynx sand and gap wedge. I sold the wedges as I already had some, so the set cost me no more than £180. Been fantastic clubs for me, they go far when struck well, sound great and have a good level of forgiveness. I've had numerous comments on how good they look and sound. So for a mid hanicapper who is still pretty new to the game, I can certainly recommend these as a great value option to look at!
When i started playing golf in 1990 ( freshmen year of high school ) .....lynx irons were premium ...and cost close to 700 us dollars ....which was a lot of money then ( it is to me now as well ) ....but back then there were 4 major bands most better player ls gamed around my area ....and they were lynx ....tommy armour 845 s ....ping eye 2s ....and Titleist......and occasionally a set of mizuno ..so thats acutally 5 .....now for cheaper options dunolp and wilson made some really good irons for the money back then as well ....i gamed a wilson driver which was basically useless unless the fairway to the right wasnt out of bounds ....a dunlop 3 and 5 wood ....my go to off the tee box....and a set of ping eye 2 irons .....now that was my second set of irons.....my very first set of irons were dave pelz featherlight cavity back ....they were actually a very good looking and preforming club ....but to this day i have never ever seen another set of them anywhere ....but my rambling point is lynx use to be a very "posh" set of irons back in thr early 90s anyway
@johnnicholson9855 you need to watch the ORKA fitting videos. ORKA only use traditional loft - the Rs1x has a 7 iron of 34 degrees. My gamer is Yonex Ezone at 29 degrees. Alex the owner and fitting wizard says it's all about shaft and Spin.
Hoping you make 100k subs soon. It would be great to see you play outside come spring. Something fun, like a scramble with your friends. Or even just some outdoor demonstrations.
Got a full set thanks to Simons recommendation from 2024. Easily the best irons I have tried for years, AT ANY PRICE... look great, nice launch, spin feel... SUPERB
Nice clubs pretty similar if not the same design with hollow head foam injected as Caley, Takomo, New Level, RAM, etc. get fitted for each one shaft and works very well
I bought a full set of Tigeress irons £15 on Ebay for my wife 2005 era grips were gone 5 grips cost me £25 :), the shaft and faces 6/10. Great starter's. My daughter has hybrids and a 27deg FW. Brilliant clubs. Nephew in Ireland a hurling team captain introduced to golf with Black Cats irons i opted for these at £150 in 8/10 condition. Year 1 Handicap went from 25 to 15 in his first year, Lynx very well kept secret.
Nearly got these at Christmas but spoke to them before to ask about lie and shafts plus 3 and a 4 iron on the set. Never got back to me so ended up with ping i210.
I play the newer logo'd VT Prowler irons, they look wonderful, and they are pretty dang decent; got them for £300 4-PW and they still hold their value now as well, I'd recommend them!
Nice video. I contacted Takomo re the 101 irons but they only sell from 4 to wedge I only use 7 iron upwards and use 2 hybrids. Result is no point in buying Takomo as there would be 3 irons I’d never use👀😜
Exactly big brands ripping people of especially the golf snobs, nice when you best them though I have cobra S3 ladies shafts awesome iron admittedly I have use the 6,8, PW and SW still best the with their 1500 sets and 10 handicap against my 25 handicap 😂
The major manufacturers are taking the piss out of you. Unless you just insist on a certain main brand, you shouldn’t be paying more than $650 for a brand new set. McGregor, Lynx, Takomo, Caley, etc, is where most folks should be buying their irons from. Now you are free to spend your money where you want, but you are not getting added value by wasting time with major manufacturer equipment. The Takomo 101 is $489. Any player over a 12 hdcp doesn’t need anything else. If you’re under a 12, get the 101T. If you have to have a fully forged iron, get the 301 range. Or try Caley or the rest I listed. Please stop allowing these major manufacturers to continue to rob you blind.
McGregor used to make amazing irons. I think their business model changed but I may just check out some of their better offerings when the time is right.
They’re selling them £299 brand new…. Not sure why anyone would buy them for £399 used 😅 Unless you’re talking about a set that’s 3 - Pw with a certain shaft.
I forgot to add the graphic of their website, that has a club fitting link where there based in Surrey ,Uk and it’s free. Worth checking out if local.
Had my fitting with Alex yesterday at Orka… amazing experience
@@jameshopcroft8743 same. What did you end up with?
Fred couples played lynx for years, I think they shared the same car as McGregor, but both seem to be making a comeback, keep them coming mate.

I used to play lynx back in the day as a kid. Always seen as a proper exotic brand 35 years ago

I golfed with a Chinese import manager many years ago, Taylormade R7 driver was $35 to make according to him.

These were called Wishon 555M in 2003 when I got mine. The ball flies right at the Flag! Brilliant.

Had my fit yesterday with Orka. Unbelievable. Ballspeed up, launch up distance 2 clubs longer... Insane.
..and what was the loft and number on the bottom?

I've been playing them for a year, and I really like them! Think I bought them after watching an older review of yours!😊
Nice one Simon keep up the good stuff
Paul

I had a set of Lynx predator over twenty years ago they were great 😊
Lynx! Used to be a top brand!
Nice clubs pretty similar if not the same design with hollow head foam injected as Caley, Takomo, New Level, RAM, etc. get fitted for each one shaft and works very well

Nice review.

My only issue is I have them in a stiff graphite shaft, when I should probably have them in regular but hey ho 🤣
Nice video. I contacted Takomo re the 101 irons but they only sell from 4 to wedge I only use 7 iron upwards and use 2 hybrids. Result is no point in buying Takomo as there would be 3 irons I’d never use👀😜
Can you do a review of their woods and hybrids as well? The Parallax in particular, like to know if they're worth it😊

Could You get Your hands on an old set of Mizuno MX17. I have those and would like to hear Your opinion on them, and if they are still any good.
If they work for your game, they are still good.. ⛳️🏌🏽♂️
To 100k!
Maltby ts3 buttery soft forged for around $400
@0:26 He said Doo doo. ( in Nandor the Relentless voice)

Or used. I got a set of used irons for less than $500 and I freaking love them
McGregor used to make amazing irons. I think their business model changed but I may just check out some of their better offerings when the time is right.
Maltby imo has the prettiest and best performing irons of any of the DTC brands
Who buys new clubs? I have a 4-pw set of Z Forged that cost me $250 when I traded in my last set
People should buy these instead of Takomo
I bet they smell nice?
ua-cam.com/video/UKDS6l-JxH4/v-deo.htmlsi=ghLCahrGw-PmV0f4&t=515 You've never been more right my man!
Really not that cheap. Around 400£ on used golf dealers.
They’re selling them £299 brand new…. Not sure why anyone would buy them for £399 used 😅
Unless you’re talking about a set that’s 3 - Pw with a certain shaft.
@SASGolf just had a quick look and some of the prices were really inflated and the sets were hard to find
