Six weeks ago I broke my femur right below the ball of my right hip after falling after missing a step. I have osteoporosis but really never expected I'd ever fall. I am now very committed to working on balance
Standing on one foot and brushing your teeth at the same time is an example of dual-task gait activity. It does not only shows patient's great balance and musculoskeletal mastery but also resistance to the development of cognitive impairment. Great video Bob & Brad!! Thanks.
I am 70, my older neighbor calls me, a "junior senior"..I walk a lot, live in a walk up building with no elevator, am of normal weight, and eat healthy (no tobacco, or alcohol, either). However, I noticed after a very bad bout with the flu last year, I suffered from post viral fatigue, AND a new issue: some dizziness, and weird unsteadiness at times. These exercises are wonderful. I will work them into my daily routine...thank you.
Me too and I also am fit and dance a lot, and my hearing is OK. I did suffer bad flu-type side effects from the covid vaccinations 🤔 My balance has gone from excellent to rubbish by comparison.
I did some of these with my 91-year old father, who has fallen. No serious injuries, fortunately. He was nervous at first doing these, but felt safe and challenged. Thank you!
I am 72 and I have bad knees. I’m going to try these exercises to see if I can strengthen my knees, legs, and feet, to get my balance and walking become better! Thanks for your helpful video!!
You need real resistance training to strengthen everything. Pretty much anyone at any age can do resistance training according to one’s level. Also check out KneesOverToes guy - his program helps many and it can be scaled down according to one’s level
1. Chair with armrests: feel with back of leg, reach back for armrest--both arms, one arm, no armrests. 2. Marching 3. Hold chair back/countertop & swing leg sideways with foot flexed. 4. Hip extension backwards. 5. Heel & toe lifts. 6. Balance on 1 foot, holding chair back/countertop with both hands, 1 hand, fingertips, 1 finger or none 7. In-line walk forward & backwards. 8. Twist between chairs/countertop, then on 1 leg, look over your shoulder
Had surgery ten years ago on both feet and my balance is shot. I walk sometimes like I’ve had too much to drink. I don’t drink. I’ll work on these exercises.
Omg! I NEEDED this so much. I'm 53 now and have issues with my balance. Will be doing these today... These funny guys are my Dr's always. A practitioner in my area would try to put me on Drugs for my balance...🤔 I Don't think so. All blessings to you B & B
I have a client that is 85 years old and his number one goal is to build strength/balance to prevent falls. These exercises were challenging for him but was able to do them with a base of support. Extremely valuable content, appreciate you guys!
As a physical therapist that works with a lot of elder struggling with balance here's another video you might find useful for your mom. ua-cam.com/video/m09pAK4O70Y/v-deo.html
I've found walking on ice is easiest & safest in tiny steps. I'm sure you already know having the correct footwear for you also makes a difference. ☮️💕🙏🏼
Love your videos. I have three family members and friends who have had falls in the last year that resulted in wrist, knee or ankle breaks. I am passing this video along to everyone!
Wow,this is such great info. My Mom is 92 and had a myriad of balance issues and falling and I could not get her to move more and exercise and unfortunately, the results are not good now. I do not want to follow in her footsteps so I am going to try to do everything I can to combat balance issues, etc so I can continue to move as much as possible as I age. Thank you for sharing your expertise to help us. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this!!!! God bless.

I’ve noticed that climbing a two or three steep ladders has become harder as I become older. I’m hoping that by incorporating these exercises it will make climbing easier. Thanks
These are good! I started going to PT for my arthritis knees this week and have been doing the first one standing and sitting on the chair without putting any weight on hand(s). I did the toe raises in PT in 1989 when I went for recovery after healing of broken ankle surgery.
This is a great video for developing those pesky muscles that just aren't what they used to be. I am 5' 8" and put those 4" plastic risers under my favorite couch, and under my bed legs. What a difference! Standing up is so much easier now.
Fantastic guys! I’m on the exercise routine. A large part because you guys got rid of the excuse not to exercise because I wasn’t sure of the correct way to exercise. A million thanks 🙏🏼
I live with my grandma and she recently retired so thank you so much for teaching me methods of how to keep her agile and mobile while she’s not working!!!!! Im doing a bit of research on elderly safe “excersize” routines because she is in her 70s after all but any activity is good activity ❤❤❤❤
Hey you guys....don't ever let anyone say you are talking too much. You are both too cute to put up with the grumpies.....thanks sooooo much for this show. I was always fit and had two or three buses hit me....so am struggling. Sending you wife approvable hugs for you both.

Thank you! This has been helpful. Ive been exercising my disabled relative over facetime since the senior center is closed. I needed more balance exercises to give her. You guys are the best.👍
Great variety of balance exercises, I take a class called strong and steady , our instructor is a physical therapist and a yoga instructor and we do most of these same moves . But you added a few more which is very helpful 👍
Thank you for sharing this. I need to work on my balance. I’m in a walker but sometimes I’m unsteady and fall. I don’t want to go back to the wheelchair.
At 59 I had vestibular problem, which needed a year to clear up. Now at 62, I have some residual, infrequent, short-term unsteadiness, mostly at night. I've found the yoga "tree " pose helps a lot.
You are both very charismatic, and watchable, but also very fit….it would be good to see older folk doing these exercises…. I can’t move my toes or rotate / bend my feet. I have had diabetes type 1 for 63 years. Also had a cancer in my ankle. My balance is very bad, and I need a stick to walk with. However I can attempt some of your exercises…..thank you for these 👍🏻👍🏻 ( can you get your mum’s in occasionally, so folk like me can identify more? )
Thanks with chronic back pain I need some exercise schedule for my age I am in early 70’s to keep my balance and also for backache if possible . Thanks 🙏

I begged my mom to do this. She put herself in a wheel chair when she was about seventy because she felt unsteady and didn’t want to fall. He quality of life when straight downhill. Spent several years mostly in bed because she was tired . It was awful. She did it to herself from not participating in her own health and fitness care. She was always looking for the magic pill from her doctors to fix her.
Just a suggestion: when performing knee lifts, it is much better (to prevent leaning) to have a chair on either side of you, as you do further into the video. :)
