Hello Andrew, This is a case of the placebo effect. The construction of the laptop has not changed; it is still the Galaxy Book 4 Pro 14-inch with a Snapdragon processor. You have been putting great efforts into X Elite coverage for us. Thank you a lot💙 I don't understand the big battery runtime differece in video playback between 12 hours of Edge and 20 hours of Surface. The OLED display alone does not explain this. The advertised runtime is almost the same. What would happen if the display run at 60 Hz instead of 120 Hz?
Samsung has already started to discount - so it's now $999 (perhaps for a limited time). At that price, it seems to be a pretty good value proposition. 14", Snapdragon Elite 80, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage
This device is really good; its surprisingly light, significant battery life for its compact size, its performance is quite good and the screen is arguably the best on the market.
But apparently in contrast to the regular intel version, the Edge versions have a Screen Door effect... So not the same screen as the galaxy book 4 pro's !
I actually just got the x84 version 16 in for $789 through the Samsung app. Got veteran discount plus traded in my old Microsoft surface for an additional $300 towards it. And on top of all that it was discounted by about $250. So again an absolute steal

I would advice you to purchase Intel Lunar Lake or AMD Zen 5 instead of X Elite for work or wait for Windows for ARM to mature in like 2-3 years like Apple for developers to develop applications suitable for ARM architecture. X Elites are not great options now due to compatibility issues (this is Microsoft’s fault, not Qualcomm’s). Edit: Companies won’t ignore x86 at all and they will be fully supported until like atleast 4-5 years (the time we will replace our laptops bought around this time anyway).

hey Andrew, I appreciate your videos, but I think you should really include a performance test on battery with the Balanced power profile (what most of the average consumers use). I think this will show more of the real world usage, and how much these manufacturers limit their chips on the standard power profile when not plugged in. I know that the Surface Laptop does this very well, and the Samsung cuts off a lot of performance on balanced. Im missing this info in most reviewer videos which is a shame. No average consumer uses the high performance profile, and power users only really use it when plugged in at a desk. These laptops are mostly for daily use anyway, and the PR is made for long battery life during daily general use. On the high performance mode you are losing out on the longer battery life as well.

I have researched extensively and narrowed my options down to three laptops: the Galaxy Book4 Edge 14'', Surface Laptop 7 13.8'', and MacBook Pro M3 Pro 14''. In terms of cost-benefit options, I'm still struggling to make the best choice. Everything about the MacBook is acceptable to me except for its weight and ecosystem, but since I've always been a Windows user and I also have an S24 Ultra, seamless connectivity and usability seem challenging with an Apple laptop compared to the Surface and Galaxy Book. My priorities are weight, display, and performance. Since I intend to keep my new laptop for at least four years, I need to consider the most future-proof option. My budget is capped at $2,000. Could someone please help me make a decision?
We are in the same boat. I currently use a Surface Pro 7 and the storage is maxed out and the performance is just fine. I also use a Galaxy device and to be able to use the phone camera as a webcam among all the other ecosystem benefits would be great. I think my money is going to go to Samsung. It opens more benefits to what I already have vs the the other options. I have a want to get into content creation by tracking my exercise journey, making videos of family vacations and group gatherings to which the Mac would maybe be best but its a lot of smoke at this point. I hear the complaints of the Book Edge and I really have to say....they don't matter that much. They could've allowed Qualcomm to sell these chips to Huawei and watch them create magic with them. Just look at the Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 with the Core Ultra 9.
Thanks for the review. The investment in buying these laptops amazes me. 😅 Great job Andrew. Here's my question. I'm a writer and a manager. Do you think I should go for the Edge or the intel based Pro 16? I would but the 16 inch of either variants because I love to have that display in the large size. Also, I think you got 2 hours of battery life more than the intel based version am I right? Its not that much of difference.
Strictly my opinion but I wouldn't recommend Samsung if you're looking to maximize your hard earned money on a new laptop. Samsung is notorious for being expensive and giving you little for your money, the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge being no exception. You're better off in investing on a Lenovo before considering Samsung. Excellent First Look Review Andrew!! 👍😁
It depends on how you look at it. If you are in the market for a thin and lite laptop with an x elite CPU and good I/O, your only two options are the Samsung Galaxy book 4 edge and the Asus vivobook S15. Yes the S15 is cheaper but there's been an awful lot of issues recently with Asus customer support, event under guaranty, so for me it's a hard pass. On top of that, the book 4 edge looks a lot cleaner and it a lot thinner. From what I see, it's worth it
Samsung devices are quality products. You rarely need support as they last long. If the lapops are as reliable as their flagship phones then I would spend that extra 10 to 20% in price to enjoy their AMOLED sccreens.
I respect your opinion! I buy MacBooks, iPhones, iPads over and over and it’s the same product! So I feel you. It’s your money and you gotta get what works best for you.
It always depends on the price… Here in Italy, for few hours, an electronical chain had some cumulative promotions that were able to reduce the price to 699€ for 14” and 799€ for 16”… for that price I think it becomes a no brainer…
Not sure if it makes it a better deal if the 14 inch is $899 right now at Best Buy. Maybe people didn't enjoy it based on some of the reviews so they dropped the price on this unit.
I got one from Best Buy. 16 inch model this is beautiful laptop. I am Mac user for long time but needed one window based laptop to run some apps for some office and Google application I don’t need anything else, I was able to install most off application only Norton is not working at this point it won’t install Norton web safe and vpn. All printers get installed no issue. It is much lighter than Mac boot air 15 inch m2 chipset. It does get hotter than MacBook though. It has every port on embed. Mac lasts for a very long time I am not sure how this will. The price is where this one shines. $999 with 16GB and 512 which is plenty as most stuff is save on cloud MS or Google whatever application is used. Most apps from MS store are working fine.
I have the Lenovo, but haven´t tried the Samsung. In my opinion the Lenovo is better, it has IR for Windows Hello (logs on immidiately), better keyboard, OLED screen at 500 nits and 1000 nits HDR. However it is only 90 Hz vs the Samsungs 120 Hz, if that matters. Faster SSD (which is replaceable). No wobble on the screen when typing. The chip is the 78E100 vs the Samsungs 80E100, but the only difference is that two cores on the Samsung can go to 3.8 GHz. Strangely my computer scored 873 points in Cinebench R24 which is higher than the Samsung scored. And it is cheaper.
The capability of a laptop is judged by the price of it. Take the XPS for example, it is capable but considered poor because it is not priced at what it should be priced at. There are so many options better than it like the Spectre and Yoga 9i which are better priced and are more capable as well. Dell is trashed for their ballooned pricing. So it is about price to performance rartio. If the Pavilion Plus 14 was priced more than a 1000 dollars, then it would be considered as a terrible option. However, the great price makes it an easy recommendation for budget premium laptops as it offers A LOT. My Envy 16 was discounted and offered for 1300 dollars instead of 1700 dollars which is a much more superb bang than the XPS 15 priced at more than 2000 dollars with the required specs lol.
As always a good review. Worth watching. A question. Where does Samsung place this Book 4 Edge in its lineup versus the Book4 Ultra, Pro360 and Pro? Is it considered a higher version, lower, what? Thanks. I have been considering the new Dell XPS 16 (I currently use an old 17), but thought I'd consider one of the 16" Book4's, maybe the 16" Book4 Edge, since I'll likely be getting a Samsung Galaxy s24 Ultra soon, and maybe that shared ecosystem might have some advantages. You guys have to stop the crying it’s a first gen product. Apple didn’t drop a great MacBook the first time around it’s a process your missing the big picture battery life and noise reduction on a native windows pc. That’s a win to me using vs code for real not a iOS version just true vs code the way it was meant.
I just returned the PC today to Samsung. For a product at this price (84-100) the PC is unusable with DaVinci Resolve, Luminar Néo certain AI functions cause the PC to crash and you have to force it to shut down. Paying such a price for office use makes no sense. The PC is magnificent and so is the screen, but the total instability makes the experience of this PC more than disappointing. Classic usage works well. 16 GB of RAM is far too little! because as soon as you launch a large software the memory is used at 100%. Office yes, photo video and ai photo functions no!
Not really, I got the 16inch 1tb Book 4 Edge for 1500 Canadian dollars (CAD) and came with a free Buds 2 Pro worth 179 CAD, that is amazing value and the deal is still going on in Canada, perfect device for people with Samsung phone tablet and buds as they seamlessly work together

Apple didn’t drop a great MacBook the first time around it’s a process your missing the big picture battery life and noise reduction on a native windows pc. That’s a win to me using vs code for real not a iOS version just true vs code the way it was meant.
Dude, I don't know what's worse: your grammar or the BS you just typed.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I just got the 16 inch version and it lasted 6 hours dont believe these videos im a samsung user i love their phones but this battery is absolute cap
Yup, both RAM and SSD are non-upgradable. Pretty disappointing with SSD being soldered.
Very.
@@andrewmarcdavid OMG! Thanks for responding Andrew! Love your style of reviewing! Keep it up
I hate that retailers don’t tell you which SKUs are in these snapdragon laptops.. there are 3 versions of the X elite chip..
For those wondering ... i am here for these words lol
I think this samsung is not prefered by lots of people. Samsung is losing the game with it.
I think the Galaxy book is the worst of the new laptops considering the price
Not really, I got the 16inch 1tb Book 4 Edge for 1500 Canadian dollars (CAD) and came with a free Buds 2 Pro worth 179 CAD, that is amazing value and the deal is still going on in Canada, perfect device for people with Samsung phone tablet and buds as they seamlessly work together
@@nafeeahnaf6296 they nerfed the SoC to boost battery life and in most cases, it performs worse than the X plus SoC
i dont like the bezel what a waste of screen. Surface for me
*But the TouchPad is crap* 😢😢😢
It triggered me that all these new laptops are kind of advertised for creative work but NONE have full size SD card slots.

This laptop has no reason to have a big chin lol
