@@LaneProductions327 they run hot factory, probably not to bad in terms of heat tbh. Big Red pushes so much rpm all the time it needs it, and because they are getting old and pretty rare, i want it to last.
@@LaneProductions327 My latest Tach with heat sensor. I have found one of my oppys run about 188-210F at the spark plug. Much cooler than I thought it would.
Nice mods... The skid plate for Steffen's Wheel Horse will also help in the longevity of the transaxle plate. All the mods were great! Even the pulley. 😀
@@MightyRaze yes, the main purpose of the skid plate was to strengthen the joint to the transaxle. I suggested he add the the steel plate to it for extra strength and to keep anything from getting jammed up in there. The other purpose of it is to keep the belt guide protected from damage. If that gets bent out on a trail he’d be hosed. Recently we inspected my belt on the John Deere. There was a split in the V all the way to the chords. About 6” away from that there was more damage, another split and some minor chunks missing from the rubber. The rest of the belt was perfect. That tells me something must have gotten in between the belt and pulley somewhere. Even with all the guides protecting it something still got in. My guess is a rock from when we were driving through all the deep mud. Anyway that belt was almost a year old. I replaced it of course, the new belt is great because it has zero squeal now even when I slip the clutch. Steffen’s belt is even more protected than mine. I was wondering how long these belts would last. I’m not sure how long mine had those splits in the rubber but I feel like that wasn’t compromising strength. The cords weren’t cut and there was no fraying anywhere. To me protecting the belt is number one because it’s the heart of the drive train. Also getting pulleys perfectly aligned is key. And having strong idler pulleys that don’t flex or distort under load is key too. So far I’m impressed with how strong and resilient belts are. With all the extra guides and keeps, it makes them a pain to change out. But it’s a two way street I guess.
@@Tennesseemountainhomestead This is one of the things that make you and your channel Great! The interaction and detailed responses in what you are doing and the knowledge you have in what you did. I've changed up a few things on some of my tractors because, of your videos. I really enjoy your videos. Per belts... they can be a funny thing. It boils down to imperfections we cannot see inside. I've had damaged, burned and crusty belts last WAY longer than expected and then turn around and have a new one snap for no reason. I try to carry an extra when I have them. I hope you have a great time with your ride coming up! Only possible group riding I get has been Haspin Acres in Indiana with some ATLTF guys. (Bad thing to being in this hobby this far west of the heart of it) Rich is a Blast to ride with, hope he is there. Great Kid.
@@Tennesseemountainhomestead You'll be in for a show then! 😁 Wish it wasn't 12 hrs away... Only 35 minutes I think from my sister's. I've already burned up my current PTO. Might even be a bit sloppy due to Beryl.
@@RichieRichOverdrive I was hoping someone else was a Megadeth fan out there. I bought Rust in Peace back in 1991 when CD’s were becoming more common. The CD looked exactly like that. I remember how cool it was to this day. It looked really cool in my stereo too. We drove the tractors up and down the street probably 3 miles yesterday. I’m still having carb issues. 🤷🏼♂️ I thought I had it fixed. It’s nothing major but it still seems to load up and blow black smoke when I rev it. I’m thinking about removing that regulator from the circuit. And also checking the float level. It could be flooding up through the main jet I don’t know. I still have the stock carb for the motor. Starting to consider putting that back on. Otherwise it’s running good. I’m not gonna run it to much between now and Saturday, I can’t afford for something to go wrong 😄
