So glad for this update! Healing can take a while, but I'm happy to hear you say you are moving/progressing forward. It's wonderful that you are enjoying your time back at work and that you have something to look forward to with the hiking club. Press- onward and look upward!❤
Oh my goodness, Renee you look amazing. So glad to hear from you, and that you are getting better one day at a time. God bless you lady take care of yourself and can't wait to see you back on trail ❤️🙂🙂❤️
Well Hello, it's good to see you again! I'm glad that your physical therapy is helping you. Sometimes it just takes time to heal. Don't give up. Congratulations again on the new job! Glad it's still working well for you. The teacher Hiking club is a wonderful idea and would be a great way to get students involved in Nature and Hiking. Happy Holidays to you and your family! 🦃 🎄 ✨ 🎉
Renee I did my first ever hike on the AT from Damascus, Va. I have a new respect for how tough those mountains on. I was thinking of you as I hiked and thought you did amazing. Hope you are recovering well.
Thanks for the update, Renee. I can relate to needing a good physical therapist. I've had both my hip replacements now; one in May and the other in August. 2023. All's going real well, but there's no rushing the healing. The body does its thing. I had one PT who seemed to be just going thru the motions. She was a nice person, but didn't seem to believe what I was telling her about how I was feeling. The other PT was rather crass and made me do things that were very painful and not necessary. With hip replacement, all you need is gentle exercise and walking. I do my own PT at home now and it's what's right for me. I know it was hard for you to come off trail when you got injured as you were so determined to make it thru and I know you eventually will. So glad you love your teaching job at school. You're a trooper and you'll do well with all you do, Take care.
Renee I'm so glad to see you're body on the right path to healing completely. And I'm looking foreward to when Eddie does the video on editing videos. My AT hike is on hold now until March 2025. I may need surgery for a torn Miniscus & MCL in my right knee. I'll find out Monday. May God continue to bless you & h our family.
I was about to comment on an old video to try to get an update reply! I’m so glad you are doing well! Sorry the healing takes so long. I have a physical scheduled because I want to hike the AT next year, trying to minimize any health problems that might arise.
Glad to hear you’re getting there with healing injuries and it’s all in time and don’t rush it. We could start in January but I don’t think my back is ready or will be ready since we can’t hike for a bit. Miss seeing your video’s.
Look at you! You are looking good, and I am certainly glad you got a good therapist. Sounds like you are healing. I am sending blessings your way. You got a good man. Can’t wait to see his how-to video.
Oh Renee, it was so good to see this update. When I think about your last days on trail and how injured your body was and in the hardest terrain of the whole trail….well it’s a miracle you were even able to get off trail. Am so glad to hear all of the progress you have made…..slow and steady friend. You inspired so many on and off the trail, I wish you all the very best. Happy Trails!!
So happy to see you and Eddie! You’re moving along. I remember that fall. Glad you’re loving your work. That school club sounds great. What an experience that will be for the students and teachers. Thanks for the update. I think of you everyday. I always hoped just try hikes,Lori and you would catch up with each other on trail. 😊❤
Thank you for the update! You've been in my family's thoughts and prayers. I am starting my AT thru-hike in February, which you greatly helped to inspire! Looking forward to Eddie's video tips. 🎥😁. Best wishes to you both, and prayers for a full recovery. Cheers!
I was just thinking about you yesterday. Yay for PT. Good to see you and Eddie. It does take time heal. Be kind to yourself. You are really working on healing yourself from within. Thank you for sharing your journey. Glad teachingvis going well
So glad to see you again Renee! 😊. So glad you are still improving each and every day! Glad your job is going good! Keep moving forward. God Bless you and hello to Eddie!! 🙏🎃
No. I completely understand. The healthcare system is complex and puts people in sticker shock over the cost. Stay strong and looking forward to many happy trails ahead for you.@@couchtotrail2023
It’s good to know you’re improving! I was training to get out on the AT, but unfortunately I blew out my knee in Alaska in August and have had to admit to myself that the AT isn’t happening for me until I get a new knee, so I know the frustration. Keep up the forward movement!
My husband and I were hiking a section of the AT in GA a few weeks ago training to begin our thru hike January 2024. We’ll during that hike there was a narrow part of the trail and it looked like they had been working on the erosion to build up the side where it drops down. As we were hiking, on the left side of the trail where it drops, I stepped possibly too close to the edge and the area they were building up gave way and down the side of the mountain I went. I had to jam my foot into the dirt to stop myself from falling further and I twisted my ankle, but the worse is I guess I had rolled and landed on my back and let me tell you the pain is still there in my back, but, my ankle is ok, lol. I guess it takes longer to heal those back muscles than an ankle. To top it off, I had to hike five more miles to get off the trail and I fell on my ankle two more times because it was week. Geez! I felt so frustrated and lost some confidence in my step so I understand your frustration when you were hiking and had fallen. It really takes a lot out of you. However, I’m doing good but we have had to re-structure our thru hike because I won’t be ready for the time we wanted to start in January. We’re really considering a SOBO because I don’t want to flip flop. Nothing wrong with flip-flop but we would like to start from the beginning to the end at one time. SOBO would work for us because then we would be hiking home back to GA. We would also still have all the seasons, especially the beautiful colors of the fall in TN, NC and GA. So, if you want to tag along with us after you heal, we are hoping to begin around mid-June. Happy Trails….
That sounds really exciting! I agree those leaves and seasons would be beautiful. I hope to see you out there. I hope you are recovering okay. Hiking hurt is no fun at all. It really plays with your mind. I wish I could start the whole thing all over again. Maybe when I officially retire.
Do you give your email out ? I'm going to be from Semi to trail in 2025 for a thru hike but am starting the Florida trail in Dec 2024 . I feel like that's my best option to prepare. I would love to communicate with you . I'm glad your recovery has lots of progress . Have a wonderful day !!!❤
Hello it’s great to hear from you. Currently I am working a 12 month teaching position and will only be able to hike on available weekends, which I am planning to do soon. When Eddie and I retire we plan on hiking the whole AT then.

Thank you, I’m super jealous you were able to go hiking. It’s a long slow process for healing, but the process is happening.

Very smart! I don’t recommend going from the couch to the trail. Prepare as much as you can.
