Hey, Renée!👋 Tinker here. I told you about my knee injury last year and I thought that I would update you on my recovery. After an MRI showed a double tear in the meniscus of my left knee, I was advised to discontinue my thruhike, so I did, but drove to Abol Bridge and got my pictures of Katahdin. I went home and got a cortisone shot in my knee and did some short hikes which brought me to the 1,100 mile mark, so halfway on the AT was accomplished between April 1st and December 23rd. I can live with that at the age of 70 (71 now). On April 23rd, I had a complete knee replacement and the recovery has been slow and painful. It was just a few days ago that I realized that I hadn't been bothered by pain for a few days. I still have a lot of flexibility to gain, but am functional around town and at my 3 part-time jobs (about 30 hours/week). I plan on doing the second half of the Trail next year, and a thruhike in 2026, if possible. Glad that you made it back to the AT with your husband and grandson. Great job! Have fun on your adventure and good luck. You are about 2 miles form our house, when you get here on your through hike the village of Pine Grove has a road house dinner, cold beer and burgers. Also the Pine Grove Dinner, Village Pizza shop and Ravens Rock Outdoors will take care of all your needs. Bear Chase is not the place to go;-) Our village has been serving the AT community since the trail was built....just saying.

Hey!! Great to see you guys back at it! Do you find section hiking vastly different from thru-hiking? Have you changed the contents (lighter or heavier) of your pack hiking shorter sections? Wishing you all the best catching up the missing sections.
@@makingry hey good morning thank you the biggest differences I’m not as as good as shape as I was when I was through hiking, so it’s more difficult to do the section hiking because you’re not as well conditioned but as far as the pack, I still packed the same items and because it was only overnight or two overnight I had less food, but everything else was exactly the same for packing my pack. I hope you have a great day.

You should do a video about your last year and what it has taken for you to be able to backpack again. I'm just hoping I can do some day hiking when it cools off a little. @@MyCatIsSmarter you are so right summer hiking is really hot and miserable. I told Eddie if we were to ever attempt to hike again when we retire that I would want to start in January to make sure I avoid all of the heat anyway thanks for checking in it’s good to hear from you and Moore to come.
@@couchtotrail2023 I used to camp out in a tent for 10 weeks in a row every summer when I was in college. I did get to go swimming daily to beat the heat

How wonderful to see you and your husband out on the trail and even better that you have your grandson. I am able to bring my great-granddaughter out and she loves it even though we're only in the local State Park she thinks it's the at great memories you'll always have😊

Y’all were the first thru hikers that popped up on my screen last year and introduced me to the A.T. I then became addicted. So good to see y’all back on trail. @@KrizAkoni it is really hot for hiking. I heard some hikers have had heat stroke. That’s really rough. I don’t remember it being that hot last year.

Yes, Eddie and I would like to do another attempt when we both retire but that’s not for probably another 789 years so it’ll be a while
