While finishing the breakdown for the beat Trashy I noticed on Fl Studio that the main Kick and Snare were perfectly on beat. RARE for a Dilla beat. But then it clicked! Not everything needs to be off beat to create amazing drum swing!

Hey Narox. This is somehow validating. Coz I switched up my dilla time after reading his book and of course watching a couple of your vids. Actually before stumbling into your vids I already figured it out on my own. That’s by moving the kick on the down beat and nodging the hats. Btw Im a fl user. So when I discovered the swing knob and the snare ahead my initial practice was lost coz I thought Im doing it wrong, but actually I already got the feels. But this one validates it. Since it makes sense that you dont have to make swing on all the elements. You just really have 1 stable and 1 swinging. Then the rest is all in the feels. Buddy you’re really that homie I can geek out with this thing thanks!

Sloppy chopping drum loops can also give the same effect or if your using something that only plays on the grid just chop your samples to play a little late and super late for early stuff if u know what I mean...iv got a feeling dilla did that with some beats
