Bar and chain oils vary so much from one manufacture to another. When it gets cold enough around here an appropriate amount of kerosene mixed in with the bar oil does the trick. It's the same way we adjust our #2 diesel for the winter months.
Project Farm just did a chain oil test on YT of chain oils. He did not test Scott's brand, but the results really are interesting. Definitely worth a look.
I certainly won't be buying husky oil anymore after watching that. I recently found some Mystic b&c oil made by citgo for $8 per gallon that pours thin but works extremely well.
I appreciate your self awareness of preventing your channel from being an informercial. You run the risk of promoting something or someone that caused a lot of headaches for others. Honesty is a valued commodity. Thanks for your content.
I handed a lot of Scott’s oil out at the Bunyan and I was curious about cold use, wonderful to see this test you have done. I have used it some myself and it is a wonderful product. DGP oil is a great product and dedicated to manufacturing the highest quality product on the market. Scott Porter is a good friend of mine and I know he will be very happy with your review of his oil. Thanks Tinman 😊
Good vid Tinman, I have been making my own winter grade oil and thought I’d check this one out. For me the cost is prohibited at 48 dollars US per gallon. Wish it were a lot cheaper. Thanks for the vid and keep them coming.
That's awesome!!! Today it will be 31F (-0 C), and Friday our high will be -7F (-21 C) with a low of -24F (-31 C), but I won't be cutting wood!! Our winter has been "warm" up until now too, and I will have to wear pants!! On a side note, when I used to cut all winter in below zero temps I would use used motor oil (nasty), or cut my regular Stihl bar oil with mix (not ideal) I was also pretty poor, these days I just keep my bar oil in the heated pickup 😁
I’ve been running the county line oil from tractor supply for years and it’s been the best oil I’ve used and can get here. It’s not great in super cold but for most times it’s great
I would definitely be interested in trying that....not only for its performance but also the fact that I do a lot of cutting around protected waterways. Thanks for sharing!!!👍
Good practical test. I've seen how the bar oil gets thicker when its "cold" here, but I've never seen it cold enough here (Virginia), to pick up a "hunk" of oil. Thats wild. Gret video Tinman!
It might be good stuff but it’s way too dang expensive! That will be that oils problem is the price not many people are going to pay the price there asking a gallon for that stuff!
I think I'm going to have to look into trying this oil on my battery saws. Cold, no engine heat to thin the oil and not very good oil systems are a pain in the winter.
That was very interesting got my attention big time , because in winter I run winter oil in the bar like you and summer blend of bar oil . Now I don’t expect it run thin as warm oil but it is a eye opener👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Interesting stuff tinman! Commenting from Sask so I know what you mean on cold weather cutting. I ran to town for bar oil and they didn’t have any light weight oil in stock. So I bought the jug of medium weight and improvised. 60/40 mix of med bar oil and canola oil to thin it out. Still tacky and flows really well. Just putting that out there for the guys with limited options.
Thats Kewl!! I'm in N.C. and we don't get NEAR that cold here...but I like the test ...for us "sawnerds" out here..I agree...I like to find out from ALL my customers what brand of oil they are running in the bar and in their mixes...keep up the GREAT WORK TINMAN!!
Scott from DGP bar oil really stands behind his product and his bar oil is premium viscosity in both hot and cold weather. DGP is the one oil for all temperatures
Doesn't the oil tank being right underneath the muffler and right in front of the cylinder get warmed up a little bit it'd be interesting to see a video with one of those laser temp guns
Great video Tin man I watched Buckin’s review but it was -2 Celsius there he mentioned you had some oil and I was curious how it would work in the cold We get to -30 here in eastern Ontario ,-2 is like a nice fall day lol not really winter I’m going to give it a try thanks pal
i mean, here in Michigan, i mix mine 50/50 with regular old ATF and that has worked for a couple decades...but i'd love to try some of this...but $50 a gallon is just too much. If i used 1 bottle per year i wouldnt care.
That stuff is like $50 a gallon by me. I can use $8/gallon cheap bar oil and wear through a few light bars and still be better off. I'm all for not pouring oil on the ground, but that's crazy expensive.
Project farm did a test of different bar oils and the cheapest harvest king brand oil was way better than the expensive name brand stuff. $50/gallon for DGP is crazy, synthetic motor oil costs less than that.
@@rileyjohnston8393 saw that. We don't have Rural King in my area but I'm pretty darn sure the Mystic stuff I get for $8 a gallon is the same exact oil. Comes in the same shape jug and is sold by fleet farms around here.
Yep I see it is definitely flowing better than the other …might have to try it if I can find it at a fair price …I have searched before and it was quite a bit more expensive than my Husqvarna chain oil…we will see …which reminds me I have to order up another bar from Walkers ..take it easy and thanks for showing this
getting my first 32" Tsumura Light Weight Bar for Stihl 3/8" / 0.063" / 105 DL guys will try it on both my 395xp and my 440 ms stihl and will get some dgp very soooonnn

Who has a vested interest in selling bars and chains?????
@@daveodenbach6455 what?
@lanceevans688 pretty sure mystik and RK are the same oil. They come in the same jug. I'd bet citgo makes it all.
@@slow_bike_mikeI believe it is the same stuff

I like to run Oregon premium bar and chain oil all season lubricant..
Talkin to the yotes made my day!😂And they were listening. Absolutely fabulous!!

Good stuff to under coat your truck Tim . 😊
I tried the bottle I was given at Bunyon and it worked great. You don’t have to buy a thinner oil for winter cutting. Thanks Tinman for the review

I’ve been using the DGP bar oil for about a year now and it’s now my favorite bar oil. Also for bicycle chains.

I would like to give it a go, Amazon UK has it listed but unavailable. It looks promising hopefully it will cross the pond soon.
Look for the Dewalt Biodegradeable oil, DGP makes it for Dewalt

I too am a 5 year old who likes to yin yin my saws! I loled at that. I need me some of that bar oil!
I’ve had really good luck with Pro 100. Cut a lot in 5-10 F here. Stuff works great
They make the Dewalt Biodegradable bar oil just look on the back of the bottle for this company (DGP = Dynamic green products inc)
Your a good man true to your words tim man . 😊 keep up 🔝 the great videos. 😊
project farm just did a video on chain saw oils .You will be surprised at the results.
It never gets that cold where I am, but, that's pretty impressive! I may give it a go next time I need a jug, just because. Made in USA!!
Have you tried the kinetix stuff for cold?
It’s all about “virtue” and you have it.

What 2 stroke oil do you use tinman? Love the content.... thanks from the Appalachian mtns of North Carolina
It has to be the 2100 next, that saw is legendary.
Thank you, where can Montana find dhp for sale, I need to try this oil ???
I found it on Amazon no way I'm giving $80 for bar oil lol
Very cool vid I seen a vid where chainsaw guys use marine oil in fuel instead of Stihl oil any thoughts
I think if you look at the specs it is the same oil as the Dewalt oil Buckin is using.
How's that osburn? Still loving ours... Effortlessly holding 70F / 21C.
It's a great stove
Does look like an excellent "oil" for average and cold conditions👍🏻 be interesting to see if it doesn't get overly thin when it's 100+F out!
It's amazing in high situations from what I've seen and experienced.
Is this the same product that BBR has used/“endorsed” on his page ?
Thnx…
Yep and it's good stuff
thanks for the great review.
How's the Tinman family
Performance and price are my criteria. Once the saw warms up, if you are using winter oil...mmmehh, price and Performance...🤷♂️. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙

The Puparazzi?
Great video friend
My buddy used to run old hydraulic oil for bar and chain oil and man did it stink something terrible needless to say he was cheep
I switch to ATF once it gets lower than -25C
What kind of 2 stroke oil do you use?
Opti2
Test it Sat. Going to be a little chilly I hear.
My votes for the 2100
Because "If you can't justify new
go classic"

Its just not worth the money. DGP is $49 a gallon vs. $13 a gallon for dino.
I don't do promo's either.
