The music industry is evil.😭 If the label feels you’re not making them money they’ll shelve you and keep you from leaving their label. Independent is the way to go build your own fan base and grow from there.
Those who start independent make a deal with a label later on in their life too.
So the label wins anyway.

But it is business after all… if you’re not delivering unfortunately you get booted, that’s how it works everywhere.

Cardi kinda lost her momentum imo.
She gets pregnant at the WORST times ever. After the success of Invasion Of Privacy, Bruno Mars invited her to go on a world tour together. She declined because of her pregnancy. After that delivery she should’ve gone on a world tour to gain more fans worldwide.
Then WAP came. She should’ve dropped her second album right after WAP because that moment was so big! And then go on a WAP Worldtour with Megan Thee Stallion.. but no she got pregnant. Now all her shit is flopping and people do not care for her anymore. No big collabs, nothing.
Me when I lie:
Pregnant or no pregnant that girl ain’t got no talent… she needs to give it up
I mean even after pregnancy you can’t just jump back in as if you did not just bring a human to the world. I admit that she could definitely do way more, but she has pretty much reached a level in the industry where even if she is inconsistent. She’ll still be at that high level.
The way you comment about her pregnancies and babies like it’s bad it’s weird. Fame and music clearly isn’t EVERYTHING to her. She has a family and doesn’t need to leave the baby she just gave birth to to go back to performing if she doesn’t want to (especially if she just popped out a baby
Regardless of how problematic Azealia is her music is timeless and the talent is there

If you saw the amount of white artists that go nowhere in their career.. I don't think color plays that much of a part anymore. Labels are just veryyy hesitant of backing anyone that is not "assured sucess"
@@charles1413 Right. We're also in an era where a lot of R&B is decent, but not catchy AT ALL. You go back to the 2000s, or even Ella Mai when she came out in 2017-ish and the catchiness is there. People ate it up. I think black women, or at least R&B songwriters, are struggling to make catchy songs, which is why it's so bad right now.
@@BruceLigno no, the labels don't value r&b like that. Of course, their labels are dedicated to r&b. Overall it's mostly pop artists who are pushed. India Shawn, mereba, Xavier Omar, Victoria Monet, Ro James, lucky Daye, & muni long have amazing songwriterss
@@ajat3202 I don't disagree. I said catchy. I've listened to some Muni Long, and her songs are good, just not catchy. A catchy song is always what's played, so of course those artists are not going to get push. Back to Ella Mai, her song had ZERO press. It was catchy and people liked it, so it got popular a year after it was released because it was something people liked to hear and it spread naturally. That is rare to hear now.
However, labels probably don't value R&B, but that's naturally going to happen as time progresses. Rock literally was dead for a good 10 years until recently, lol. R&B will definitely make a comback someday, I just hope soon.

It’s just sad because there’s quite a few really great artists still out there who are creative and passionate about their art and they tremendously put in the work to showcase that, but because they’re sole drive isn’t to be a TikTok star and/or they’re not all teens/college-age kids, their singles and albums get brushed under the rug. I’ve been asking myself for a couple years now…these are the artists and bodies of work that y’all wanna look back on in 20 years? Cause lord have mercy, no thank you. And I’m 23, so I know I shouldn’t be feeling that way about “my generation,” but girl…this ain’t it!

At the end of the day, the committee composed of fellow artists, music critics and the likes decided Cardi had the best album. That is why she has the Grammy. It is just funny because you never hear this argument used against male rappers. Like when Macklemore won, and even said he didn't deserve it, he did not recieve this backlash.
To me if cardi’s album is not done yet I think she should at least drop a mixtape or an EP until she finish up her album and give her fans a little something something like Meg did with something for the hotties

Y’all know cardi is a perfectionist y’all saw how many times she pushed iop UNTILL she was readu and she felt like it was perfect
It’s not only that she’s a perfectionist. I feel like she ‘subconsciously’ makes the wrong career choices music wise these days.
- She really should’ve focused less on Offset and toured around the time she dropped IOP, because that was when she was green in the industry. Most of the times when people get pregnant by bums (cause she deserves better) before they capitalize on their album it doesn’t bode well.
- She also should’ve dropped an album or mixtape when WAP or UP came out, because that was when the expectation was high because of the way her first album era was ended.
And I get that Kulture came into the picture and every child is a blessing, but it kinda messed certain things up for her.
