    Loved that video - just sent some money. The first time I have ever done this. A great video that will save anyone time and money. Now off to buy some attachments for the multi tool.

    😂😂😂 @27:26
    "well, this is probably going to break now"
    At that moment, I was thinking exactly the same thing (but hope that won't be the case).
    What a great video! Great informations, great timing and a substantial shopping list for us to choose from for our Christmas "treat"!
    Thank you George

      Thanks. If it did break I’d be ordering the same again and give this a very somber burial and wake. The king is dead, long live the king!

    Great video George, and no, its not too long.
    Glad you enjoyed the shortbread, it does go very well with tea.

    For an upcoming video, I'd be really interested in one that is about diesel heaters.

    Im at the back end of a big refit and wish I'd seen some of your videos earlier ! Id be very interested to see how you carry your tools around, and how you organise them, how you get them on to boats, transport them and so on, Ive ended up with some "spare" supermarket shopping trays, like the shopping delivery guys use, that you can just about carry, that stack on top of each other, are very tough, but its not ideal and smaller tools get lost at the bottom, I also have one of those traditional cantilevered metal tool boxes, but again, tools get lost in the bottom and that ends up extremely heavy

      I use large plastic boxes in the van for large tools and boxes for other stuff (like a vaast collection of different grades of sanding disks) but smaller tools are all kept in a tool bag, more like a briefcase that has lots of holders for all the different items and a larger section in the middle for larger things like hammers, etc. the tool bag is heavy but keeps me fit!

    It so good when we use good tools
    It is not too long, "il faut ce qu'il faut" en Francais.The refit is full of details when you want to be efficient.
    Your videos are.

    9031 Makita user here, i can recommend it also. It really is a seriously tough sander, even carbon dust has not killed it in 10 years of boatbulding

      Totally agree. Well worth the cost for a quality and useful tool.

    I like that Bosch drill, looks handy. I'm a marine tech in the States. Reciprocating tool is a very useful tool.

    We find that a brass drift, a few different hammers and a set of drifts and punches are valuable tools. We also *Love* our mini Milwaukee shop vac forcleanup and minimizing dust. Cool channel!

      Yes very handy… shop/work vac essential too but I could not cover everything in one video without it being two hours long and already get told my vids are too long. Thanks for the comment 😊

    Dust can be blown out of the motors and bearings with compressed air. May have to disassemble to get it all out. You can wait till the tools starts to whine or preventatively blow down your equipment daily/weekly etc.

    • @RefitandSail
      @RefitandSail  8 місяців тому

      Yes that’s true, I often put the vacuum nozzle right up to the air vents on tools to suck out the worst of any dust that helps but disassembling and cleaning would be the best solution but takes time. Some tools/motors seem much more tolerant of dust that others… tends to be the more expensive “pro” tools that last much longer.

  • @Franco.Zanchi
    @Franco.Zanchi 8 місяців тому

    About the vacuum cleaner, I got an expensive cleaner certified for class M dust( I have a Bosch but from any tool brand it's the same) and it's lasting me for about 10 years now. It sanded a lot of boats so that might be a good investment. Classic wet& dry cleaners won't last very long.
    Also, Metabo makes those Mirka sanders, so they tend to be a bit cheaper in green colour. Don't know if Metabo sells in UK.

    As I'm in France, I'm going to use Amazon France to avoid the customs charges. Sorry

    Really enjoy your videos, very informative and well made. You mentioned that you ere removing treadmaster off your Westerly, what are you thinking to replace it with?
    I have a teak deck that is 44 years old and hanging on by a thread and I was thinking about treadmaster.
    Keep up the good work.

    I think it's called a power file rather than a belt sander (which has a much bigger belt).

    • @RefitandSail
      @RefitandSail  8 місяців тому

      Maybe, I’ll still keep calling it a mini belt sander though… old dog new tricks.
      At some point I’ll pronounce Makita properly… maybe…

    Great video! Thanks! I just bought my first sailboat and I'm wondering if I should buy 12v, 18v or plug in tools. What do you suggest?

    • @RefitandSail
      @RefitandSail  8 місяців тому

      Cordless (battery) tools are so good these days that I would go for that unless there is a particular job that you know is going to take time and eat batteries. For example I will
      Stick with my plug-in hull polishing machine as it will run all day plugged in no issues but I would need a lot of batteries to polish all day. But most jobs don’t need that.

  • @athertop

    George, what do you reckon to the Bosch Professional GPO 14 CE polisher?
    Need to get a polisher and have always bought makita kit (18v), but I need to get a polisher which means mains powered, so I don't have the brand limitations that a battery system imposes. I looked at Makita, De Walt initially but the Bosch polisher is looking good as 0.5kg lighter and slightly more power. Just don't have experience with Bosch kit so looking for recommendations. Cheers all, Paul

    Can you cut GRP with the oscillating multi tool?

    • @RefitandSail
      @RefitandSail  8 місяців тому

      Absolutely! But use a metal cutting rather than a wood cutting blade. Also watch out for heat build-up that blunts the saw quickly.
