Since heaven is perfect, why do we need the new heavens and new earth?

Great question but in my opinion Gods original purpose was to make a habitation for man ,and what an amazing God who does not change but He will reset and continue exactly with His original plan...that's the way I see it.

Heaven is state of the heart/mind as one... New Earth is a cleansing of the mind (negative thoughts) which allows the heart to be truth.
You cannot know GOD if a the voice inside your head doubts you, nor can you feel God if the Heart is deceiving you. 😊

@@NathanSander777 I thought he was essentially saying that heaven is perfect and doesn't need to be changed or redeemed, but earth and space surrounding it will be renewed. Paul said he was caught up into the "third heaven." The first two are the sky and space. Those two will be redeemed, but not "heaven proper," is what I believe R.C. is saying. Although I'm not sure if he's entirely correct, since Jesus said he was going to "prepare a place" for us. Either way, I hope this helped!

If your understanding of new heavens and earth is a new plannet you are imposing your understanding of that on the text

The Mosaic covenant law disappeared in AD70 with the destruction of the temple, and introduction of the new covenant ,the heavens and earth that disappeared was the nation of Israel
