  • Prior to running their scheduled Steam to the Cove on Saturday, Sept. 18, Everett Railroad #11, a 2-6-0 Mogul built by American Locomotive Company in 1920, hauled four empty freight cars on the railroad's Claysburg branch from Claysburg, Pa. to Hollidaysburg, Pa.

    Simply amazing all the steam restorations being done in recent years. It is also very special seeing steam performing revenue freight service.

    Very Very cool, to see a vintage loco in revenue!! Is the loco a true 2-6-0 or is it supposed to be a 4-6-0, looks like there is more room than normal for the pilot wheels

    • @the_retag

      Im curious why would a 4 6 be converted to 2 6 ?

    • @overpoweredsteamproduction513
      @overpoweredsteamproduction513 2 роки тому +8

      Nah, the locomotive was directly built as a 2-6-0, but I can see why you would think that

    • @stevebarnes2
      @stevebarnes2 2 роки тому +2

      @retag The only reason would be to increase the load carried by the drivers. This was done to some 2-8-0s to turn them into 0-8-0 heavy switchers.

    I could just have not known all these years but the way it seems….steam is starting to make a comeback? I hear constantly of new restoration projects and now a couple that use them in temporary branch line services. This railway looks like an absolute delight to film and even better to model, my first small Dcc sound steamer is a 2-6-0 and it’s what made me fall in love with steam. I have about 10 more to buy now haha

    Almost looks like it's missing a set of drivers in the front, lol. This is cool to see someone other that Strasburg run revenue steam freight.

      TVRR does occasional revenue freight runs in Georgia and in the helix track in the mountains above Ocoee and Copper Hill, TN.
      The sugar company in Florida runs mostly revenue (that I've seen) behind their Pacific.
      Look for a video on the TVRR Summerville double header freight that was run three or four years back. They were aldo capturing period footage for movies so they had antique cars and trucks ar key grade crossings like Rock Spring.

      Wilmington and Western RR serviced a brick factory at the end of their line where it tied into CSX line just beyond their shop in Marshalltown at one time. Don't know if they still do. They'd use one of their steam locomotives if they had one heated up. Not sure if they still service that brick yard or not. This was during 2002 - 2003 when I was there working for 9 months and watched them do this at that time.

    That Mogul really is living up to its name doing what it was designed to do - perform dual service; hauling that revenue freight in, and then pick up a passenger consist on the way back. Ironically, the speed they are doing is pretty much what mainline track speed (30-40 mph) was for trains back in that loco's day...unless it was a fast passenger train.

    What Fond memories. thank you for this video. I had the rare pleasure of riding, what I think, was the last run of the 2-6-2 #11, way back in the fall of 1970. I recall the station was up a fairly steep grade. i can't remember the name of the town any more. It was 51 years ago. Thanks again for this video.

The UP's steamers are too modern, im talking those built before the 1930's. Im an old geezer, dont have internet or cable, nothing too modern in my house. Saves $$$$ too!

      @@gamingandmore888 yes, its rare now, but i have seen recent videos of them in use, Military, high/wide loads, even moving nuclear reactors, some with 2 or more cabeese! The way i was brought up, a freight train is not complete without a caboose, its a bummer not to see them very often. On my model trains, (all scales), every freight has a caboose, just to be reminiscent.
