    Dodgers fan here! Just got my hands on a raw ‘58 Drysdale and Koufax! Can’t wait to get them graded

      Nice! 1958 Topps is a great colorful set. Love all the backgrounds.

    I learned something new with card #1. Rarity seems to rule the day! Thanks for sharing!

      Yep! That's the only reason why that card is worth more than the Mantle. The easier to find version didn't even make the top 10. But with less than 10 copies in any grade, they go for a lot when one pops up.

    That was very interesting. I would love to pick up the 58 Kaline at some point, love the old school Tigers logo. Surprising card at #1, I have never heard of that error/variation. Thanks for sharing John and keep on rocking!

      Thanks Doug! I wasn't aware of the Herrera card either until I looked up information about the set. That's what I like about doing these videos. I get to learn more about these vintage sets. And I like the Kaline card as well. 😃

    Hi John. I actually like the look of this design. Mickey number 2 not 1, certainly is a surprise. Great job as always John, thanks for sharing my friend.

      Thanks Stephen! I like the 58 design as well. Some don't like the predominately portrait pictures of the players, but I love the solid background to the cards. I think the portrait images work very well given the background.

    Awesome video, surprised at that number 1. Thanks for sharing, have a great day!

      Thanks! Yeah, it's only due to the very small POP in any grade that it was able to take the #1 spot over Mantle.

    I continue to enjoy the series that you are putting out and appreciate you doing so. I am relatively unfamiliar with the 58 set, but since I’m trying to do a playing days run of Aaron, hopefully someday I will have one or both variations of his card and maybe the Orlando Cepeda as well. Keep up the great Content!

      Thanks James. That's one of the things I like about doing these videos. I get to learn some things about the set that I didn't know. I have the white letter version of the Aaron. I'll probably pick up the yellow version at some point as I like the look of that one better. But of course that version is the more expensive one.

    Very surprised at the list but it does make a difference with the rarer yellow variations. Thanks for putting that together, very interesting.

      Thanks Larry. Yes, I decided to include the variations in the top 10 as they are not super rare (other than the Herrera card) and are popular with collectors.

      Thanks Tony! Me too. I love the 58 Banks card. But I think at PSA 5 prices his card is rather inexpensive. He might have made the list if I was looking at PSA 7 or 8 graded prices.

    Thanks for sharing & putting together this video, John. Good variety of top 10 cards. This is one that Mantle wasn't #1 & was beaten out by an error card (Pancho Herrera). This set is one of my least favorites compared to other sets I've seen. Photo quality not great & most of the player photos are head shots. To me it got sandwiched in between two good quality sets (57 & 59).

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  7 місяців тому

      Thanks Kevin. It's hard for me to rank the Topps sets from the 50s as there are so many I like. For me though I like the 58 design better than the 59. But that's just my personal taste.

    I have the full 1958 set my father was Lloyd Merritt and played for the Cardinals 1957 and is in the set and he just turned 91 and he actually gave it back to me because I am suffering financially and trying to sell it any advice you have on what's the best way to go so that I get my most bang for the buck thank you so much God bless 🙏

    • @WadeBoggsFan

      That's cool! The best way to sell it is either on eBay or through one of the Facebook groups devoted to vintage baseball cards. I would take really good pictures of some of the main cards in the set (Mantle, Mays, Aaron, etc.) as they would be the most valuable and the value is all based on the condition of the card (centering, corner wear, and surface scratches mainly). If you do some searching on eBay or the internet you can find what a complete 1958 set usually sells for. I would think that if all the cards are in pretty good condition it should be worth a couple thousand dollars at least.

      That Aaron is a gorgeous card! I have the white letter version. I may have to get the yellow version at some point as the yellow makes the card even better in my opinion.

    Where would a person take his 1958 baseball cards to be assessed?

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  4 місяці тому

      Well, you could try taking them to a reputable card shop. But they might be inclined to be more conservative on the grade/value, especially if you are looking to sell them. They may only pay 60%-70% of the value of the card. You could also try posting some picks on the various vintage baseball card groups on Facebook and asking for people's opinon on the condition and relative value of your cards. But make sure you take good pictures of them as even a small crease can greatly impact the value of a card.
