Ultimately the best workout is going to be the one you'll regularly do. Beat Saber brings me much joy so I'm going to keep playing. If you're a Beat Saber player who goes for top scores, you'll know that the scoring mechanism favors large, sweeping motions, not the choppy motions you're talking about. And once you're playing on Expert Plus the range of motion is very large, so if you're an expert plus Beat Saber player and maximizing for score you will absolutely be getting an amazing workout.
@@Watesoftheoasis his only point is to get people to stop shaming SN players by hammering on about how they are the same game when they are clearly not. Climb down out of your own ass and listen to the points being made instead of trying super hard to be really smart. It's, quite frankly, idiotic
Chords person only helps prove SB is better for a work out asap. You need to become a expert or better to start getting a work out in saber beat off. Appreciate your info!
The problem was that he set out to prove that supernatural was better, so he subconsciously moved him arms less and tried to get a worse workout from beatsaber. It’s a common happening in experiments known as subject bias.
I play custom levels in beatsaber on E+ with 2kg weight on every hand and a 10kg vest, this guy telling me im not working out because beat saber was not built to be a workout is a moronic take when my chest HRM is estimating im spending about 1000kcal per hour
@grimyhr ...he is saying it's not intended to be a workout. He never said it couldn't be a workout. Pro Tip: Most players aren't strapping weights to themselves to play it.
As you're probably aware, there is a large aftermarket for custom beat sabre maps. There is a specific category for "fitness" and that is intense and uses a much more extensive range of motion than many of the other maps. It's quite a robust workout.
I don’t really have the money to use supernatural, I do have beat saber and managed to lose 20 pounds playing it. It truly depends on your play style when playing beat saber.
@@FirstnameLastname-jo7sc when I lost the weight I played 4-5 times a week for an hour or two at a time, I was also eating very healthy and drinking no soda or anything like that.
@@fatal_corn8894I can back him. I started a weight loss program recently and was losing .4 pounds a day not working out. Using beat saber I’m currently losing .8-1 pound a day. It’s super useful
The problem is that you don't use your shoulders in Beat Saber like you're doing in Supernatural. My shoulders burn after I intentionally use them for slashing. There's no need to compare them because they're very similar, it just depends how you play them.
@@FitProVR yeah that's true. There are Beat Saber maps that utilizes the walls to push a fitness theme, but I admit there are only a few of these that the community is making.
SN is pretty amazing. Been doing it for about 6 weeks. Started out twice a week, then 3x now moving to 4x a week. It’s a great workout and I encourage folks to give it a shot. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
I like beat Saber and already bought it but realized there's like not much song selection. I'm thinking of getting the supernatural but it's so expensive, does it come with good music or do I have to pay extra like beat saber?
@@samanthalebaron2113 It comes with music, and they literally add new workouts every single day...there's currently over 900 workouts that they are still adding to.
💯 I've been working out pretty regularly for 16 years then suddenly got completely bored. I started using Supernatural 11 days ago and I am hooked! I've always been the type that preferred playing sports over organized exercising, but that is just not possible with my career anymore and this has been a perfect solution. I don't care how tired or sore I am, I come home every day looking forward to doing Supernatural. And even if I tell myself I'm only going to do 20 minutes, I end up doing an hour, even an hour and a half. It's not only great for someone who is competitive, but for someone who really wants a fun workout. And I also have to say that for us older females, it is a great way to tone your arms. If you do it right, and follow the form that they want you to, in terms of body movements, it is an amazing workout!
I am 61 and I love supernatural. I turned my 69 year old husband on to working out with it too. What a workout. I will often end my vr session with a song or two in beat saber. I enjoy the beauty of Supernatural and its' 360 degree element so much more. 2 thumbs up and definitely worth the money. I finally found something to get me to exercise that excites me.
I love supernatural, I was struggling getting motivated to workout and my husband got a oculus quest I found supernatural and now I look forward to working out everyday. ❤️
I avoided SN for so long, and had that same "it's just Beatsaber" mentality. But then decided to try the one month trial a few weeks ago, now I see the value in it and am definitely keeping it with a subscription. Also, I definitely hit a much higher heart rate on SN.
I love SN. I been in it 5 weeks and lost almost 10lbs and stabilized my heart rates. I suffer from Ankylosing Spondylitis and a ton of their health issues and am old so needed to get in better shape. This is the only workout I been able to do and have fun too. My fitbit don't lie. It's a killer workout. Beat is still fun. But not even close to the same workout
after playing both, i can say while they both have things that cut (or break) things coming at you, they are very different games, because supernatural wants you to keep working out, while beat saber just wants you to cut blocks. i love beat saber a lot better than supernatural, but supernatural gives me a better workout.
I really appreciate your perspective. And by your metrics you are indeed correct. However, that’s why I intentionally stay at expert level, use weight bands on my arms, and use wide arm motion to slice the blocks. I have nothing against Supernatural, it’s just not a good fit for me. Beat Saber is the first game that has made me want to move my body and now I feel like I’m addicted to working out. Appreciate ya.
Supernatrual is an amazing workout tool. I usually use Beat Saber to warm up, and then I jump right into Supernatural. Thank you for creating this video. Can't wait to check out more of your content!
I love both games, but use them differently. I do use Beat Saber like a warmup for Supernatural or a way to be active on a rest day, but it’s mainly just fun for me. I like to dance out my stress in Beat Saber. I’m much more intentional about Supernatural- I always try to improve my form and listen to the coaches for a motivational boost, and I like to interact with and encourage other players in their goals. They’re my two favorite games right now.
Watched this and went with Supernatural and literally just did 2 hours worth. It was sooo much fun and I am drenched in sweat. Thanks for the comparison video!
I actually LOVE supernatural and it’s the reason I got a Quest 2. I am a runner. My legs are legit. My upper body and core str get his total crap. So I’ve been doing supernatural for 2 weeks now and will DEFINITELY be buying the annual subscription. My arms and core are getting such a good workout. I haven’t tried beats. Because my focus is fitness.
I love both. Not gonna lie…I use Beat Saber as a warm up. Definitely need to get used to small arm movements vs large whole body movements. Both are enjoyable in their own way.
That's cool I use beat Saber on normal as a cool down in the BTS and play through the entire TinyTan pack. Supernatural is the exercise workout I have been waiting my whole life for. Video game meets work out. I actually look forward to working out everyday!
Developers have been creating variations of fun game designs since the beginning. Call Of Duty/Battlefield, Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat, Fortnite/PUBG, Tetris/Puyo Puyo etc. That is how "Game Genre's" are formed. Even subtle tweaks in game design can make for very different emergent gameplay.
I got my quest 2 yesterday. I'm blown away. Also signed up on supernatural. It's just incredible, I don't even have the words. I like beat saver, its fun too. But the graphics and music in supernatural are awesome. I really feel like I went somewhere, plus it's a good workout. Maybe not super intense, but I'm sedentary person. Doing this activity instead of eating is a good thing.
I’ve been doing SN for four months, and I think it’s amazing. $179 per year is NOT a ton of money. It’s less expensive than a gym, it’s WAY more fun, and I can do it any time. At home. In my living room. In my yard. Wherever I feel like it. And I can do it in my underpants! Lol. Beat Saber is fun, no doubt, but it really isn’t the same as Supernatural.
Im glad exercise has been boosted by oculus and im not shaming, but an eternity of beatsaber is 30$ which is cheap if i do say so myself, but you might not want to get beat saber, if you dont have a strong will you may switch
Something I wish he'd have been able to include in his evaluation of custom songs, where the mapping is much smoother and generally superior to the OSTs, allowing for faster note speed and more notes per second. Once you get in the 8+ star range, it's certainly an intense workout due to jumps in notes (ex: upper left to lower right swings) and the sheer speed of streams. That's not even taking into account the custom songs made expressly for fitness, as another commenter already noted. Some good examples of strenuous songs: Camellia - Night Raid With A Dragon (Fvrwvrd Remix) Expert+ or PARANOID MIRAGE | Kobaryo | Expert+
I’m not a gamer. I’m a 58 year old woman who hates the gym. I saw the ad for supernatural and right then bought the Oculus just for it. $20 a month is nothing these days and if this gets me off the couch and sweating it’s well worth it
you showed some scores around 8:04, and I checked those scores up against the scores of the beat saber heart rate details over at the vr health institute and it showed much higher heart rates on beat saber. Expert+ and modded play along with competitive play (and levels created for fitness) completely outmatch the basic expert/hard player like yourself. large sweeping movements are recommended for competitive play and--though wrists are used a lot-- you need to use your arms a lot as well.
Love supernatural. Lots of fun and good workout. If you are on the fence, just try it. Been working out pretty hard for 25 years now and SN is a great addition to weights, swimming and my elliptical machine.
Absolutely. Just doing cardio is not great, especially this volume of shoulder work. I’ll have an “everything wrong with supernatural” video coming soon!
I love supernatural! I’m on my second week of the free trial and when it’s over I’m definitely keeping it. I get a better workout than at the gym and it’s way more fun. Definitely worth it.
I think people are spectacularly bad at knowing what their body is actually doing when they have the headset on. Most of the people I talk to who think they are getting a great workout on Beatsaber tell me they use large arm movements when making the cuts. But when I watch them play, they don't. I think feeling like you are doing something is a lot different than actually doing it, you know? Supernatural places the targets in locations that force you to move more, and like the video said constantly encourages you to use a particular form while playing. Can you use that same form while playing Beatsaber? Of course. But not on expert mode or higher. There are just too many symbols. You have to use a lot more wrist to hit those. And even on hard, using larger, shoulder-driven movements will not yield the same workout results due to target placement. I'm talking un-modded Beatsaber, of course, which is the only Beatsaber most people will have on the Quest 2. Anyway, I'd recommend if you feel like you are getting amazing workout on Beatsaber to record yourself playing and see what your body is actually doing. You'll probably be surprised.
I love both Beat Saber and Supernatural and since I got my Oculus... SythRiders! That said... I'm a supernatural addict. I genuinely love it, I am healthier for it and so glad to have it in my life.
@@FitProVR scaling the play area works for a lot of people - makes the orbs harder to reach, requiring more movement. Some people scale to where they even have to jump to hit the high ones.
In fact, the beatsaber can be made more suitable for fitness, you can make a mode with short sabers and a lot of sitting, I think such a fitness mode is a matter of time, in the meantime, the supernatural is more suitable for fitness
According to this video I play Beat Saber wrong? I use full arm swings and wrist, and do a range of difficulties for a range of motion. I would try supernatural, but I can't afford another 25+ CAD a month for some time. Maybe when the future seems a bit more financially secure. It's nosedived in the past near half year for me. :/
You are playing beat saber correctly. You must do full swings to score the full points. The little flick wrist thing is going to kill your score. If you are getting at least A rank prefer S rank, then you are definitely getting a workout.
@@DaniGirl6 I get S/SS most songs(expert/expert+) I do actually. I figure with games like this, the best way to play is the way you want to play. I suppose if competitive some ways are better than others, but I'm bloody 42 and there's no way I'm competing with those half my age, so full wacky swings with wrist it is.
Is their a free alternative to Supernatural because as much as I love it I just don't have 15 dollars a month to commit to it. But I want to be able to work out with my Oculus Quest 2.
While you can play beatsaber with your wrists, it is also meant to be played with your arms. The blocks give you bonus points for following through them with your strikes, so someone who can get fast and strike through the blocks will have a higher score.
We just got Oculus 2, my husband and I each got one. He purchased Beat Saber, I purchased Supernatural. The best one is the one that makes you WANT to do it, and I want to do Supernatural. I find it fun, I find the locations beautiful and fascinating, and I have a favorite trainer I gravitate towards. I'm 49 years old, diabetic, have frozen shoulder (which makes Supernatural extremely difficult for me, but I still love it) and not too long ago finished chemo. I'm pretty unhealthy, in other words. I am stunned I get home and want to do Supernatural. I've graduated in a relatively short amount of time from 10 minutes to 30 minutes a day. My husband loves beat Saber. He's in much better shape than I am, and he considers it his workout.
I think we made need to think more about the term "workout". There are aerobic workouts. There are strength workouts. There are endurance workouts. Perhaps we should also be talking about the importance of workouts focused building coordination/developing/maintaining the musculo-nervous system. Movement is as important in exercising the brain as it is the musculoskeletal complex. Thus, perhaps rhythm games are as important for what they can exercise as "fitness-focused" games. Perhaps we can get a rhythm game that has been designed specifically with developing cognitive/brain-muscle health.
If you need to move more, play some 360 stages on beat saber, it works. If you already have beat saber just add thrill of the fight to it if you “really” want to move
Thank you for your video. I am 59 yrs old got me an Oculus Queet 2 for Xmas and have the Beat Saver and Supernatural. I like both but with the workouts of Supernatural and super music it's greater than Beat Saver. I feel work all my muscles and trully break a sweat. I don't know about loosing weight yet but sure I feel a little muscular tone and energetic since I use Supernatural. I highly recommended to people of my age, I love it. ❤
Supernatural is so much more than just some regular VR fitness app. I get a lot of spirited motivation from the coaches/trainers and they take you through a progression increasing your fitness challenges as you go. The carefully curate your preferences according to your selections. The coaches bring humour and personality to each workout and sometimes they even do theatrical stuff to keep it fun and interesting. I get a good laugh out of it. The progression of music, the diversity of movement presented with each successive workout as it learns which music/choices you favor most, it suits the whole package to YOU. Nothing can replace it! I've lost 26 lbs so far and this is just the beginning. In truth, it really doesn't feel like I'm trudging, but succeeding!
HMMMMMMM I really like this video, makes me want to challenge your theory haha. As someone that plays beat saber at a higher level every day, I'm curious how many more calories I'd burn versus playing supernatural. Wrist movement does most certainly come into play at a higher level of the game, but there are quite a few players that use both shoulders and wrists, especially for sliders in beat saber. May make a video about this??
Absolutely! I’d be interested i. What you come up with. That was a big limiting factor for me: not being great at beat saber. How’s your supernatural skills?
I love beat sabre...tried supernatural and it is not nearly as fun. Supernatural has to much talking and the fun is just missing. I personally find the games being called fitness training are just beat sabre repurposed and lacks the fun that beat sabre has making you want to go for more. Two songs on hard and I need a break because I am sweating, my muscles feel it, and my heart rate is up there...I am almost fifty. The only real difference is beat sabre doesn't have a trainer telling you to keep you muscles tight. You have to learn not to extend your arms if you want to stand a chance on not failing past hard. I think he is getting some sort of sponsorship for supernatural. Also, as you get used to the songs, you start moving your body even more and dancing along at the same time. Beat sabre for the win...hands down.
Love your videos! Thanks for the info. I just got the oculus and first purchased Beat Saber. I love the rhythm and hitting to the beat. I think it’s great for reflexes and hand eye coordination. I love the music choices offered too, but did Lady Gaga too. THEN I decided to get SN on its free trial. Now it’s only 14 days. I’m all in. I love the boxing and Flow. Both are definitely an awesome workout. I’m a fitness instructor so I believe in conquering each level before moving to the next. I’m sweating with every workout. Beat Saber is fun…SN is fun and a workout. 👍
I go with "why can't we have both?". I play Beat saber for fun and Supernatural for exercising almost every day and together they are part of my "gym-at-home" routine :D I do only play in the Quest 2 so the only thing I have to complain about is Beat saber really needs more songs. And Supernatural needs the option to turn the coach voice off, hehe
This has been the best review I've watched so far. I don't have an Oculus yet, but I've been debating on this game when I do get it. I'm definitely going to give the month trial a try as soon as I get the Oculus now. Thank you for taking the time to make this.
I’m only a couple of days into Supernatural, but besides your input on the workout, the stunning settings are a great motivator for me vs the dark arcade graphics of Beat Saber.
Actually was searching video reviews if other people thought beat Saber was a workout. I mean it definitely got my heart rate up and I thought it was. You just gave me something else to try. Thanks.
Ok but for beat saber there is "the crab stance" which I use a lot and when you play at any higher level (through custom songs most likely) it makes things like higher accuracy and better scores considerably easier, it also does work out your shoulders, biceps, and few other muscles/joints that the lower difficulty songs don't even expect you to use. The only reason I can say any of this with confidence is because of my experience with the game, I know what muscles and joints are almost always sore after playing half an hour of speed or tech maps. The reason I think it was showing as less active physically is you simply aren't playing songs that are able to get your body moving enough for it to be a work out. And I do know that while your wrists and elbows are a big part of the movement as soon as you start getting to higher speeds you will feel your shoulders being worked and that can cause mild pain at first because you were trained to not give in to your movement in the shoulders, but once you start using them it makes a world of a difference.
Totally agree. I go through song catalog on expert+ with no fail, and it's a much better workout than people give it credit for -- especially if focusing on form.
This is an old video but it is also been a while since I played these games. I also tracked my heart rate when I played beat saber and was consistently over 160, and often close to what I get from running and see as my maximum heart rate. So it depends on how you play it. On the other hand, I didn’t manage that with every song but only songs I bought and quite liked and where at least rock songs.
I started with beat saber then found SN and then tried going back to beat saber after using SN after a while and I didn't like it. SN is superior for me hands down
I love supernatural. I got a 30 day trial and is my first week and I simply love sn the coaches, the sessions, everything and it is a wonderful workout! For someone that hate gyms I am hooked and do the sessions daily and everyday I get out of bed I want to use it! Excellent product!
The first week I tried it I did the training for a whole week so I could learn the proper posture and moves! I think that help me a lot! Highly recommend it! Love it
Frickin love Supernatural. I’ve played Beat Saber since October and am solid in Expert mode, scoring S’s, and can do some Expert+ with A scores. It in no way compares to Supernatural. I have to play Beats on Expert+ for at least an hour to feel my body temp rise a little. I play Low intensity in Supernatural, and am completely drenched after 10 minutes. I don’t even get that going hardcore at the gym. I quit my gym membership after my Supernatual trial. No joke.
Thanks for the review comparison. I'll have to pick SN up now. Started getting into VR fitness with BoxVR and Beatsaber and now really looking for more VR fitness apps. But dude, you have to give custom songs a chance. For me, custom songs changed BS from a a rhythm game to an actual cardio session. Depending on the song layout (further out boxes), playing on only hard or sometimes even expert so you can focus on and have time to swing from the shoulder rather than the elbows or wrists, my HR readily getting into the 120-140bpm range, I find a pretty good workout can be had (enough that I can feel my shoulders getting a bit overused and I need actual recovery days). Anyhoo, nice channel, just stumbled upon it.
@@FitProVR So a little after my comment I ended up trying Supernatural. Didn't realize it wasn't available on Steam so it finally pushed me into getting a Quest 2 for my VR workouts, which I was already looking into before since it's not tethered and I didn't care for getting super sweaty in my PCVR headset. And my already purchased Steam VR games (BS, Synth Riders) are still playable with Airlink. I love it. The H intensity anyway. The L and M levels I just use for warmups. My HR readings comparing BS and SN are actually opposite from yours though which I find interesting. I think the rapid change in directions in BS (song dependent of course) make me have to swing faster than SN (I like to swing hard, imagining it's a sword, and with more shoulders). Have you tried swinging BS lightsabers more like you do the SN bats? I like them both, in different ways though. I think selecting what songs to play make BS more fun and SN more cardio with motivational voiceovers so I end up using them both in my VR cardio workouts now. Wish I could play more but rest days and all. Lol.
Awesome video!!! I cringe when people say Beat Saber is more of a workout than Supernatural. I started with Beat Saber and saw SN and said the same thing, RIP off! BOY WAS I WRONG!!! 2 months into SN now. ❤
I use fit xr and Beat Saber. Both feel very similar for me, just because I do treat beat saber like I'm holding swords. So many people I show typically play only using their wrist, slight elbows, which I find incredibly boring. Fit XR is nice for boxing and proper range of motion, while beat saber is fun and also gives me decent cardio.
I definitely see the inspiration and see what you’re talking about. They are very similar from the outside but man i can’t push a workout hard in beatsaber, even on expert+ which I’m garbage at.
@@jakelingala1546 nah, I’m just not very good at anything beyond hard, i can complete a few expert tracks but they get a little difficult and i haven’t put enough time in to master the rhythm.
@@FitProVR thats a YOU problem, my beatsaber workout spends around 1000 of EXCESS kcal per hour because i force myself to do large super fast swings(up to 150ish kmh) and i use weighted cuffs on E+
While I definitely agree supernatural gives more of a workout than beat saber does, I feel like, depending on the song beat saber can be considered a workout. If you just play the base game, then no it’s not a workout. If you get custom songs and find songs tailored to a workout, then I think in some cases it’s equal to supernatural. I have many different songs for beat saber tailored to a workout, making me do squats, lunges and more. I also use super natural as well. Both are really good.
What Facebook group are you on? I'm on Oculus Quest 2 - Age 40+ and it's the best group I've ever been a part of. Also, I liked Supernatural, but who can afford an extra $20/month? That's the only reason I didn't sign up.
Preach!! I just got my first VR headset, Oculus 2, two days ago and, of course, got Beat Saber right away. I was looking for a good fitness app and am using the 30 day trial. Good video! Thanks man!
Honestly I do play beat saber squatting, stretching bending and using full arms movements to get higher scores bc I'm a damn fixated perfectionist and when I take off my Oculus the clothes I'm wearing are completely wet and my body is sore. Plus at the end of the day, whatever movement is better than no movement at all 🤷🏻♀️
I just got my OQ2 today and I got Beat Saber and Supernatural and did both workouts. I did Beat Saber first and it was fun and I worked up a sweat. However, you are correct...Supernatural is not a knockoff it us a WORKOUT! I was completely out if breath and drenched in sweat. It was a FULL body workout. I am also doing VZFit so between these three and my MYX II bike....I should be getting back to better health quick and fun way!
My vote is Supernatural, the boxing though I find to be a much more intense workout. There’s also a ton of music and you don’t have to purchase song packages. Now that the cost is only $10/month it’s a great price.
Love this. As an older vet out of shape person Supernatural is everything I wanted in a fitness program and has got me from sedentary to daily 40 minute workout since the day I started. Best saber is fun but I hate the music lol. Need some pop and 80s songs lol
Try moonrider on Oculus browser. It's free and considered a beat saber alternative. If you use classic mode, you can do different songs from different decades
I’ve lost 30 lbs in two months of beat saber. lol. It’s what you put into how you workout. Your age and your health. I don’t tuck my arms and I really swing my arms. lol. Maybe when I get bored I will try supernatural. Does look interesting.
Can you turn off 360 on supernatural? The only reason I stopped using it was because I couldn't figure out how to turn it off and I don't have thr space to turn around
I play about 1 hour of beat saber a day and burn anywhere between 900 - 1200 calories playing 7+ star songs. It takes a while to get to that level, but you can get very fit playing this game. Best money I've ever spent honestly.
Great video! I love both games but there’s no doubt that they are completely different. Supernatural is a true fitness game and worth every penny of the monthly subscription for how much I personally get out of it.
I'm sure it is a better workout from the get go, but as someone who doesn't have an Oculus and has a Valve Index, it's not really an option for me since the devs don't want to port it to another platform.
I’ve actually cried the first time I tried Supernatural it! Finally, I found something that motivates me, doesn’t judge me, supports me, doesn’t LOOK at me, let’s me choose when and what I want.... and so many things that brings me back to fitness that I used to know when fitness and being in shape was my life.... Years ago... Finally, something is here that ACTUALLY IS CHANGING MY LIFE! Whoever is crying about membership price of $20-25?! If you can’t afford this, go and work more! Or don’t buy dinner to deliver to you, learn how to cook! This price is NOTHING for a person like me and anyone else who would love to get THE perfect exercise!
Just for completitions sake I would like to point out that it depends a lot on what song you play on beat saber. I usually burn 750 kcal/h on average and I play songs with 9-12 nodes per second but I also get the point that SN is a game designed for fitness.
I love supernatural for a serious workout but i love beat saber if i just want to dance while getting my heart rate up but not for any muscle building. With supernatural i always feel like i did something the next day because i feel the soreness
I did compare the 2 as I have both. Supernatural is definitely worth the money. I bought the ouculus for a specific reason and that was for fitness. I have only had supernatural for 2 days and beat saber for a month or so. Hands down supernatural. Now my question is what about fitxr and supernatural? How do you put supernatural up against Fitxr for fitness? Great video BTW
Thank you! And yes! I plan on doing those two compared because they are probably the two people mention the most. I’m gonna hurt a lot of feelings though lol
Just joined the VR world, just because I wanted to start working out and HAVE FUN. I tried Supernatural and I LOVE IT. The following day all my muscles were aching! It's a whole body workout and exactly what I need. As you said, with Beat Saber you move much less, ypu mostly have to be quick, also I don't like the fact that if you "fail" while playing it stops (not sure if that can be turned off) but that doesn't happen in Supernatural, the let you finish your song/session no matter how you're going. So for me, Supernatural > Beat Saber
I have both, and I love both. One is more fitness, and the other is more game... HOWEVER, I have to say mileage varies depending on how you play. Personally, I'm fairly new to Supernatural, but I have been playing Beat Saber for several years. My son is really good at all the super fat tracks because he uses mostly quick wrist flicks with little body motion. I, on the other hand, tend to take the tempo down a notch and throw my whole body into it as if I were playing Supernatural. Maybe it's my weapons forms martial arts background, but I just love to move like that when I play. All that to say I think that Beat Saber can also be one hell of a workout, too.
I have not played supernatural so I have no say in it. But when you really get into a song in beatsaber and really shake your ass to the beat you can get a very good workout. It all depends on the person and how you play.
Weirdly, as much as supernatural (which I like quite a bit) feels way harder and more exhausting, according to the oculus move app, I burn significantly more calories per minute playing beatsaber. I'm not sure if this is because it doesn't really measure the squats properly, but I also know that I can play beat saber steadily for an hour+ on expert+ whereas I can only do one or two workouts on SN totalling around 30 minutes and needing way more breaks. Still on the fence about if I should keep up with SN
Also, like many of the commenters here, I do not chop. I slash. I put my whole body into that shit because music makes me want to MOVE. I actively avoid wrist flicking because this game isn't just about the rhythm game aspect for me, it's living out my fantasy of being a badass with a sword. My arms get SORE after playing on expert+ for a while. While I do consider myself to be pretty good, I'm definitely not in it for the score like prof streamers are, and I think assuming that the average user is the same is a mistake
Beat Saber has become one of my favorite games. It's pretty much the only thing I use my Quest for anymore. I absolutely do not consider it a workout game at all. That being said...I jumped into Expert level songs a few months ago and play at least an hour 5 or 6 days a week. It gets my heart rate up, gets me sweating, and along with eating better...I am losing weight. I've lost about 20 pounds in the last couple of months. (My A1C is also the best it's ever been and I'm pretty much off insulin at this point (only take it once or twice a week now instead of multiple times everyday).
Thank you for this content. This is what I'm looking for. Chosing a VR game to get rid of daily immobility sometimes seems like a challenge. I can't always play Beat Saber!
I am a drummer and I will just say the Beat Saber is more than 10 times better, more fun, and a better workout. Also, if you are looking for a workout in your shoulders, just get the Green Day pack because the blocks are super high sometimes.
Both games are great, but not even a workout for me compared to Holopoint. Granted I had to get good for a bit, but I can go from "I don't wanna exercise" to literally a shirt mostly soaked with sweat in no time at all, and most muscles sore
I'm a die hard Beat Saber player for sure, but would never ashame others for playing other games for sure! At the end we all should appreciate the creators' efforts for creating such joyful games
100% agree with your assessment. I too like Beat Saber and the music. I was sold on Supernatural from the first workout. Yes, it is similar to Beat Saber, but with purpose. The movements are far more deliberate. I actually squat and lunge with the triangles in SN, and find I cheat more with BS by just leaning my head to avoid the walls. I like the grand arm movements of SN versus the fast "drumming" of BS, it dust feels more fluid and natural. I'm definitely a fan.
I completely agree with you. I think the people who are bashing it the most would not be at all interested in paying a dime for an authentic fitness regimen, but would for a gaming platform. I wouldn’t mind some of the basic Beat Saber music to head over to Supernatural one bit. Like you, I love both, but for very different reasons, and use them for entirely different purposes. I signed up for a year with the trial, and use it daily. I haven’t gone beyond what came with Beat Saber either.
Personally, I pay the monthly subscription for Supernatural because it is a fitness program that I actually love. I also LOVE Beat Saber. I would log into both apps every day, but if I "play" Supernatural before Beat Saber, I will not play Beat Saber. I usually play Beat Saber as a warm-up to Supernatural, and proceed to get my ass handed to me. Supernatural is most definitely more of a workout, even in a "Quick Hits" "light intensity" session. I mostly play Beat Saber just for fun, and it definitely delivers. This is only my opinion, of course. ☺
I use both but SN is absolutely the better cardio. My legs and core get worked in ways that Beat Sabre doesn't. Also the boxing in SN has further diversified the muscle groups used.
I love beat saber it’s always fun but I just started my 30 day trail on SN and in the tutorial I felt so good the outside view and the trainers that talk to u is so motivational I like it alot
Despite my best intentions to NOT keep Supernatural after the free trial last year, alas, I found I really REALLY liked the workout it gave me, so ended up subscribing for the year at their introductory discounted rate. In comparison, I've only played Beat Saber twice since getting Supernatural. BS is a fun GAME, I do like it, bought it twice - once for the Rift and once for the Quest - but SN is a fun WORKOUT, and is my most used Quest app behind VZfit on my stationary bike.
I play both and put expert on no arrows so I can really change my ranges of motion. Sometimes even put it on a slower version of the song. I do beat Saber as a warm up mostly. Then I'll do the 30 min swan lake workout cuz it's sufficiently hard for me or the harder boxing ones and always really focus on good squat and side lunge Form. (U can also turn down or off the trainer voice) I personally like it bc it keeps me focused on my core or whatever technique I might not be completely thorough at yet
I think beat saber can be up there with it depending how you play. Me I play expert or above and dance. Arms arent super tired but legs are. I do other things for arms anyway.
Yeah it's pretty obvious he is not a skilled Beat Saber player
@@Watesoftheoasis I mean, he says so himself, right in the video lmao
@@igo9481 Sure, but then to take his experience as a bad player and extrapolate that is, frankly, idiotic.
Confirmation bias
Confirmation bias
And he is not playing on the difficulty enthusiast play (E+)
Those are a thing??
If you have "More playlists" with Mod Assistant do a search for "Fitbeats" and get ready to SQUAT lol
I had no idea. I’ll look when I get home. Thanks for the info
in the extras volume, "fitbeat" is one of these maps. for anyone not wanting to fiddle with mods
yea some of those idk if there badly made or im just slow as hell lmao.
SN has a 30 day free trial. More than enough time to figure out if it works for you! Cheaper than a gym.
Exactly. I'm happy they are willing to do this.
Agreed! I just finished my first workout. I’m sold!!
I don’t really have the money to use supernatural, I do have beat saber and managed to lose 20 pounds playing it. It truly depends on your play style when playing beat saber.
How often do you play?
@@FirstnameLastname-jo7sc when I lost the weight I played 4-5 times a week for an hour or two at a time, I was also eating very healthy and drinking no soda or anything like that.
Fatal_Corn For how many days ?
@@neosj3003 prolly months
@@fatal_corn8894I can back him. I started a weight loss program recently and was losing .4 pounds a day not working out. Using beat saber I’m currently losing .8-1 pound a day. It’s super useful
The problem is that you don't use your shoulders in Beat Saber like you're doing in Supernatural. My shoulders burn after I intentionally use them for slashing. There's no need to compare them because they're very similar, it just depends how you play them.
I would argue that there is much more leg involvement in SN as well.
@@FitProVR yeah that's true. There are Beat Saber maps that utilizes the walls to push a fitness theme, but I admit there are only a few of these that the community is making.
@@PatrickJoshua 💯💯 thanks for your input! I appreciate it!
SN is pretty amazing. Been doing it for about 6 weeks. Started out twice a week, then 3x now moving to 4x a week. It’s a great workout and I encourage folks to give it a shot. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Im definitely thinking of trying it out,I have the day off from work for 4 days and i think that could be a good thing for me to use during that time.
I like beat Saber and already bought it but realized there's like not much song selection. I'm thinking of getting the supernatural but it's so expensive, does it come with good music or do I have to pay extra like beat saber?
Ashame it doesn't work in every country
@@samanthalebaron2113 It comes with music, and they literally add new workouts every single day...there's currently over 900 workouts that they are still adding to.
It sucks, it isn't fun, and its a ripoff of Beat Saber trying to market as a fitness game.
It definitely has the motivation piece on lock!
Yep! I needed a hook and it has delivered!
Same!!

I avoided SN for so long, and had that same "it's just Beatsaber" mentality. But then decided to try the one month trial a few weeks ago, now I see the value in it and am definitely keeping it with a subscription. Also, I definitely hit a much higher heart rate on SN.
Absolutely! They are very different!
I agree! I love and use both, but the better work out is SN. Mix up Flow with boxing and you will sweat and breathe heavy and be good-tired.
That’s awesome and what working out is all about! Finding what you love and making it work for you! Keep it up!
Absolutely agreed. Beatsaber is fun but for me it’s not a fitness challenge by any stretch.
Same!
Some I use it as warmup
Developers have been creating variations of fun game designs since the beginning. Call Of Duty/Battlefield, Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat, Fortnite/PUBG, Tetris/Puyo Puyo etc. That is how "Game Genre's" are formed. Even subtle tweaks in game design can make for very different emergent gameplay.
Absolutely agreed!!
Welcome to the club!
Me and my dad are gonna play supernatural now and see how it goes
Fantastic! Let me know how it goes and what you thought!
Just signed up for 30 days free myself. Using this with my 18/6 fasting as another weight loss tool. Thanks for making this video.
@@Cabby-om2tv glad i can help :)
Great video! Don't know why this has any downvotes. Both games are great but Supernatural gives me the most amazing cardio workout. I LOVE it.
Spot on
I love both Beat Saber and Supernatural and since I got my Oculus... SythRiders! That said... I'm a supernatural addict. I genuinely love it, I am healthier for it and so glad to have it in my life.
Synthriders is fun! I just can't get my heart rate up in that game lol
Synthriders is just not a work out.
@@picanha694 were all at different fitness level, SR just doesn’t work for me though, not enough gross motor movements
Perhaps we can get a rhythm game that has been designed specifically with developing cognitive/brain-muscle health.
beat saber is just fun, im not really looking for a workout it's more of a "i need to move more today" kind of thing, both games are great imo
Very difficult custom games are certainly a small workout lol
I play Beat saber for fun and Supernatural for exercising almost every day and together they are part of my "gym-at-home" routine :D
I do only play in the Quest 2 so the only thing I have to complain about is Beat saber really needs more songs. And Supernatural needs the option to turn the coach voice off, hehe
Good thing you can turn off the coach voice now
This has been the best review I've watched so far. I don't have an Oculus yet, but I've been debating on this game when I do get it. I'm definitely going to give the month trial a try as soon as I get the Oculus now. Thank you for taking the time to make this.
So instead of smashing blue & red blocks you smash black and white drop shaped objects? How could I have not seen the big difference??
I just had so much fun in a workout it brought me to tears.
No joke.
What expert plus songs are u playing 😂
Custom songs get me sweating and arms sore way more than stock
I totally get that, i just didn’t feel like a modded game vs a non modded game would be a fair comparison
Absolutely!
I still think super natural is a beatsaber knock off
I definitely see the inspiration and see what you’re talking about. They are very similar from the outside but man i can’t push a workout hard in beatsaber, even on expert+ which I’m garbage at.
So your saying beatsaber is to hard for you
@@jakelingala1546 nah, I’m just not very good at anything beyond hard, i can complete a few expert tracks but they get a little difficult and i haven’t put enough time in to master the rhythm.
I'm on Oculus Quest 2 group, Oculus Quest Group, Official Supernatural Group, and some beat saber one!
Go out to eat one less time per month and it's totally covered
Preach!! I just got my first VR headset, Oculus 2, two days ago and, of course, got Beat Saber right away. I was looking for a good fitness app and am using the 30 day trial. Good video! Thanks man!
Same!
Yeah, I'm definitely an 80's child who needs ALL the 80's music. The Retrofit one is pretty solid.
Try moonrider on Oculus browser. It's free and considered a beat saber alternative. If you use classic mode, you can do different songs from different decades
@@natrlchallenge i like moon rider! But for some reason it doesn’t always respond to my hits!
I'd love to try Supernatural but it's not available in my region (Australia) - Kinda makes it hard to use for fitness here...
I’ve lost 30 lbs in two months of beat saber. lol. It’s what you put into how you workout. Your age and your health. I don’t tuck my arms and I really swing my arms. lol. Maybe when I get bored I will try supernatural. Does look interesting.
I’ve been using Supernatural alongside a moderate change in diet for 2 months and I’ve lost 26 lbs so far.
Agreed! The value varies from person to person!
Love Supernatural. For me there is also aa big difference between being in those beautiful locations versus being in the black tunnel.
That was the first thing i noticed about beatsaber too! Pretty bland.
you can customize your location and colors in beat saber it's not just a black tunnel
There are mods to change the environment in beat saber if you don’t like the default ones or just want different scenery
stfu there are so many things in the beat saber maps i fell like ur just salty ur bad, get good scrub
@@shorse4665 another thing i love about beat saber is the warm and welcoming community!
As long as it's subscription based i rather Beat Saber and pay for music packs the right way to ask for more money not but monthly fees.
You can swing your arms in Beat Sabre too. In fact, some levels have more points for a wider swing. Just saying ...
How often did you hit your Quest while playing that intensely? 😅
I mega loveeee SN and I enjoy BeatS. Simple!!!!😅🤣
Great Vid!!!! Keep it up!!!!!
Thank you!
Absolutely, beat saber just isn’t fitness focused, it’s completion focused.
Couldn't have said it better myself! I didn't sign up for the year though, I pay monthly.
Yes, that is EXACTLY what I do!!!
How’d you get a 30 day trial for SuperNatural? All I’ve seen is 7 days.
Oooo i got VZ fit coming up!
I don't have much room in my house but I have a backyard. Will this work outside?
