    My dear friends, I have NEVER once, found any of your videos "boring!" I have been in the hobby for 15+ years, now and I always learn something new from your videos! It's OK to say that if you are a seasoned hobbiest, that some of the content will be "repetitive" but, trust me, The RC Saylors are NEVER BORING! I learned a few things today and was reminded about others. Nate, you are a very good and patient teacher! Abby, you too are great when you excentuate or add something to the subject. And, thank you both for including shots of Popeye, which adds to the cute & fun factor of the video! Can't wait for the next one! ;-) JP

      I have a question how long will a b3 compact 10w charger take to fully charge a 2cell battery. What about a 2 cell? My battery charger has 2 red and 1 green light .

    Just what I needed.
    Got my first hobby grade RC car a few months ago.
    It came with a simple balance charger. Plug in the battery and eventually the red lights turn green (3S battery in my case).
    Recently got a charger with the same functions as the one in your video. The instructions seemed to assume I knew what I was doing.
    Your video was just what I needed.
    Now off to watch your follow up video

    Boring? Maybe just a little, but EXTREMELY helpful to me! Sometimes, part of "paying your dues" means suffering through the boring stuff so you don't make a mistake somewhere down the line. @@TheRcSaylors my battery has the dual battery so it has the 2 harnesses. But my truck (arrma granite 4x4) only uses the main connector and not the smaller one I use on the balancer. So when I'm charging is it still safe to plug both in? Or am I misunderstanding it all completely? lol thank you for your help, time, and response!

      John, most of the time people do not take the time to leave positive reviews if they like something. Do you go to McDonald's and leave positive feedback every time you don't hate your sandwich? Same applies here with the charger sadly. I know tons of people that love this charger ;) Thanks for tuning in :)

This isn't the first RC stuff I've ever messed with but as far as chargers this is the only one I've ever had that wasn't just the usb type that plugged into a laptop or computer usb. So thank you very much for showing step by step instructions on how to set this puppy up, because the instructions they give you in the box had me totally lost for sure. Nice Job Sailors! Good info for beginners . Just to add when your done playing, storage charge all your batteries for the most life out of them . I always charge to 3.85volts per cell. So a 2 cell to 7.7volts a 3 cell to 11.5volts and so on. Batteries last way longer if you do this when done playing. The older cheaper connector is the red t style. the better, safer, newer ,connector is the xt-60 connector and is what 95% of all my stuff uses . I have a T adaptor for the couple of batteries that still use that. Bruce is in New Zealand just fwiw and is a expert on the electronics and an engineer if you really want to learn the tech . Happy RC ing:)

    Well done, I would only add it is best to not leave your batteries to charging unattended. I usually start them charging and work on something nearby to keep an eye on them. Occasionally check on them to make sure they are charging well and not puffing up or getting warm to the touch. You never want to charge a damaged battery, if signs are at all evident. Definitely research charging multiple batteries at the same time if you plan on doing that, there are some great videos on the subject. It was good seeing you do this kind of informative video, I hope to see more.

    Great vid kids but me being me I would suggest two things.
    One is the easiest way to remember cell count is just one wire is always ground and the rest are the cell count. I know you said the same thing, just the long way around and may confuse some.
    Two is you didn't stress enough to NOT leave a battery charged more than a couple days. When I was a noob not only did I ruin a couple of very expensive Yuneec batteries but I ruined two more replacement batteries because I didn't know better. (I kept thinking I was getting bad batteries) That was a $400 rookie mistake.
    And yes I watched a couple videos on charging batteries but no one stressed the importance of the storage of them.

    I bought a bunch of T-60's connectors for all my planes, I am tired of all the different ends. Its no problem soldering them on all my stuff. Banggood sells them 10 pieces for $5. The balance boards are cheap enough too. I got the kind with LED's that indicate each battery condition. I like the Venom charger, you got a great deal on it. I havent seen them at a decent price so I am using my Bangood Multicharger that everyone was buying two years ago. I am not complaining, it works great!

      TheRcSaylors I am on a mission to replace that old DX6i for all my UMX and Horizon planes. I am sticking to my Ttx 850 Tactic for most of my planes but have to get something better. I am currently bidding on a gen 2 Spektrum DX 6. It has voice and some good points. I was informed I will have to upgrade the battery to lithium and add a better antenna for range although I suspect where I fly, range shouldnt be an issue. Oh, and replace the junk speaker they put in them. I already have a laptop speaker that will fit right in there from a stripped out HP. Apparently the DX 6 has really bad speakers in them. If I can get one lightly used, it would be worth it to me. Half the price helps too. I was almost thinking of getting a DX 8 but why if I dont plan on using it for but a few planes anyways.

    • @SpeccyMan
      @SpeccyMan 6 років тому

      My Spektrum DX6 has good audio so maybe it is just the earlier versions? Also I use NiMH batteries as I had serious issues with the Lithium battery, it just wouldn't hold a charge.

      TheRcSaylors I replaced the cheapo charger with the Duo Venom too! I found out my elcheapo was overcharging my batterys and thats trouble big time. I would have never known till I used my multimeter. Not good. I dont think my multimeter lies. I was in Muskegon over the weekend and hit the hobbyshop there. It was $99 but I wanted to suport that hobby shop. Sadly they had no beginner nitro rc cars for sale at all. I guess I was ment to hold off buying one of those.

    Great video guys. However, I think it's wise to inform your "newbie" chargelettes that it is imperative to let your batteries cool down before charging them. As most of you know, the batteries heat up during discharge and you should always wait until they have had a considerable amount of time to cool down prior to charging.

    Great video, really useful information. Maybe a dumb question, but what does the "S" stand for when talking about batteries ie 2S 3S 4S? You seem to be talking about the individual cells within the battery... but cell begins with a "C" (at least here in the UK it does).

    Hi guys, have to correct you on one thing Bruce (Xjet) is from New Zealand not Austrailia. One thing that had me slightly thinking, when you plugged batteries in, you hooked up both leads, I only use balance lead. mind you I only have cheapo charger..one day a Venom

    EDITED: After seeing your follow up video I admit that I was wrong on the point of your tester showing one of the cells was overcharged. Obviously the accuracy of a cheap tester isn't going to be great but I had assumed it was using just one voltage measuring circuit and reading each cell in turn on that one circuit, so a significant difference in cell voltages would be valid regardless if the actual measured voltages were both a bit low or high. However I still maintain you should always balance charge Li-Po batteries regardless of how balanced you think they are prior to charging. Doing so isn't any more of a hardship and you are less likely to damage a cell.

    • @scottfirman
      @scottfirman 6 років тому +2

      Roger Wilco It does take longer to balance charge because most chargers discharge the two higher batterys and then bring them all up together. Its easier if you can isolate that one low cell and charge it on its own by making a single cell charging lead. Once it brings that one cell up even with the others, you shouldnt have to keep balance charging. If you do, then you have a battery with a bad cell.

      @@TurtleTurtle6045 The charging speed depends on how many amps you charge your battery at. Different batteries have different C ratings that detirmins the maximum charging amps. If you are a searious RC person, you should get a Venom charger that has up to 7 amp maximum charge rate and can charge from 1S to 6S batteries as fast as possible. It has several charge options, including standard and fast charge settings. You might look at getting an ImaX B6AC dual power charger. It is cheaper but maxes out at only 5 amps. It will also charge from 1S to 6S batteries. Both chargers do a good job at balance charging and storage charging and battery discharging. both chargers will handle a variety of lithium battery types, not just LiPo.

      They can eventually have one cell over charge or under charge which is bad for the battery and can be dangerous! If your batteries ever start to swell or show signs of wear, have them professionally recycled (usually free).

    For new batteries. Do you recommend charging them out the box to full charge and then using them in RC right away then charging them back up to storage charge? Or should I charge and discharge it the first time on the charger itself before using the battery in a RC?

    You did show a lipo-charge bag, but I did kinda miss one quite important thing: the warning to NEVER let lipos charge unattended!! Always be in the room where you're charging your batteries!! You have to go? Unplug the charger and battery!!

    Wish you had this earlier, when I got my deadbolt and got my battery and charger I had no idea why they were giving me a battery plug! All the batteries I delt with had only one plug for charging and the vehicle. Found out you plugged in both. I have the battery that came with my WL 10428 A (Wraith) I figured out soldering on another plug I use for my Warn winch and controller, Is it a good idea to only use the balance plug or use the charger that came with it? Which only uses the balance plug.

    You should probably mention not to disconnect the battey by the banana plugs. I was teaching my nephew how to charge batteries and he disconected the battery by the bannana plugs on the charger, I quickly grabbed the whole thing and explained to him that a battery could possibly explode in his hands if the two ends of the bannana plugs were to touch each other while there was a battery plugged in at the other end.

    I know this is a bit of an old video but, I have a battery and charger that came with my Aeroscout S2 1.1 which I LOVE TONS!!!! And I also have a separate balance charger that I have from a while ago, and I was wondering if I could use that balance charge that I have with the smart battery that came with my plane? The connectors are different but if I bought an adapter, would it work?

    Very helpful video guys, thanks! Now I have a quad you liked, the JJRC H8D. It's a 7.4v 2 cell but only has 2 wires (no balance port). My charger has died and discharged the batteries to basically nothing. I checked the voltage output on the JJRC charger and it read .155v Now, i'm not sure if the three are dead or will take a charge IF I can find the correct charger. I'm still looking but have not found the charger for the H8D available online
