Your editing is so sleek. If I just started, you would be the easiest person to understand. Thank you so much for making this, even though I already know everything ;)
He’ll have more subs soon... he’s just started... As soon as he gets more views his videos will be suggested by UA-cam to more and more people. He will definitely improve his knowledge and will be among the greatest channels about FPV drones. I really like what motivates him: sharing what he is learning while he is learning.... this helps a lot of beginners that (some times) cannot follow what more experienced pilots are putting out there. Even though they have more knowledge and experience sometimes they forget all the difficulties and problems they had when they started. Matt is clearly sharing his experiences as he is facing and learning them... Can’t wait to see his progress (as a pilot and content creator) and the growth of his channel. Btw, the quality of the videos, the amount of effort he puts into them, and how natural he is speaking to the camera will definitely make his channel a great channel. I’ve been following since video one. I don’t even remember how I came across his first video, I am glad I did though.
Additional tips and corrections from an RC heli pilot (we demand more out of our LiPos than FPV): 1. You don't need all batteries to be the same brand, or even the same capacity. Critically, they need to be the same cell count. Importantly, their voltages need to be close together. In fact, the reason you need them to be the same cell count is because different cell counts IS a different voltage on the pack. To describe what happens -- it isn't even an overcharge amount issue. The issue is the power delivered to each battery in the circuit, and for that matter -- as they exist in the circuit. The moment you wire up a lower voltage battery with higher voltage batteries, the laws of physics (E&M) will be pumping juice directly from the higher voltage batteries to the lower voltage ones and in an unrestrained manner. Basically, it's the bigger batteries that will start to overload the smaller one. 2. When you parallel charge, you can charge over 1C just the same as you would individual batteries. A parallel charging board presents the charger with a single large battery. Take that total capacity, and you can charge at 2C (or higher if you do) of that. 3. This was missing entirely from the discussion: but always balance charge your packs initially. I have a charger that can fast/slow/normal balance charge. I normal balance charge at the start of day, fast balance on the field. If you're going to discharge your pack promptly (within hours), you really don't need to balance charge it slowly with precision. Example: I always charge pairs of my 6s 5200mAh batteries at 20.8A. This is a 2C charge because in parallel it is logically a single 10400mAh battery, twice that is 20.8A. My 6s 6000mAh pairs are charged at 24A, etc.
Hi, thanks for the comment, it's very informative. I'm curious, if you plug a 6s 1500MAh and a 6s 1300Mah, would you set the charge at 2.8A assuming 1C? Would it spread the 2.8 correctly 1.5/1.3 or 1.4A for each - charging the smaller one faster and somehow balancing between them once the voltage rises and tries to equalize? How does it work?
Dude, you explain this so simple. I am just few days away from buying my first fpv 5 inch mark 5 and I am going thru all your videos one by one. I am a Srilankan and there are probably less than 5 FPV drones/pilots in my country. Thank you so much!!!!
Man... this is so awesome for someone just getting back into the hobby like myself! Too often I feel like I'm lightyears behind and have to gather info from tons of different sources when I just want to know the basics to get started. Keep it up!
I can sympathize. I recently just jumped back in myself after about 5 years away, and the mountain of knowledge that I've forgotten is absolutely frightening. I knew I was in trouble when I picked up my radio for the first time in years, and a big question mark appeared over my head as I wondered what the hell all of these damn buttons and switches were for!
I am absolutely mu to this entire experience but not new to flying drones but I have been asking this question because I don’t know and sometimes it’s better to watch these videos where you can learn tricks and loopholes versus reading and everyone I’ve asked has never answered and here you are posting a video of the number one question I have and has not been answered... So thank you for taking the time
I don't need this information as I have been in the hobby for a few years but for a beginner these tutorials are easy to understand, thoroughly explains everything and has accurate info keep it up man
Great info Matt! I have the same charger and one of the functions I use quite often is the storage function. I tend to bring my lipos up or down to 3.8V with this before parallel charging. This is also really convenient when it's time to charge up all my packs I know they are ready to go.
We couldn't ask for a better video on the subject. I was only looking for information on the parallel board. I have been charging my batteries one by one for a long time!!! Martin from Quebec City, Canada.
Can't tell you how many times I've watched this video and many more of yours. EXTREMELY helpful. I haven't even got my first quad yet (literally sat here waiting for delivery today of a Mobular7 HD and some 2s batteries) but I have my charger (ISDT 608AC), TX16S and Attitude V5's and have used this video to understand all the things I hope I need to to stay safe and efficient with my batteries. Thank you so much. You've made an extremely confusing hobby for a total newb like me so much more understandable and given me much needed confidence. Can't wait to get flying!
Hey Matt! Just getting into flying - really appreciate the video on batteries, really helps take the stress out of such a potentially dangerous process. Keep up the great content!
I like the way you explain all your stuff with writting it on a whiteboard and illustrating it as you go. Often others just spew out a barrage of Volts, Amps, and Watt numbers which makes it hard to follow along in your head. Thanks for the vid! helped me a bunch B-)
I looked all day on the internet while being subscribed to your channel before I got the right answer I was looking for that I found in no other videos about balance board charging and what to set the charger at as far as capacity...at 10:03 or somewhere around that time in the video you draw the diagram with 6 batteries and how they charge 1 ar a time at 1.5. So all day my question was do a multiply mah by the number of batteries. You have the best video on the internet about how to use a balance board and what to set charger at. Thanks very much. Liked, been subbed for a while amd hit the bell for all notifications. I have the dji fpv system and I started watching your videos about it months and months ago. Now I finally got my hands on the setup and love it. Got the built and tuned skyeliner HD with the dji air unit and the goggles and dji transmitter. I have flown about 20 packs with it and love it so much. I am definitely addicted to fpv now. I have been flying the mavic air 2 and the Autel Evo 2 camera drones before getting into fpv. Absolutely love it. Thanks again for the video
You are th eeprfect guide to start into this World Matt, thanks again. I just bought a Lipo charger and the first tbin I did was to enter into your video haha.
Dude I love your videos. I’m waiting on my first FPV drone to get here Monday and I’ve been drowning in your content. I used your affiliate for the charger. Keep it up brotha!
Hi Matt at 2:17 the balance stick is starting at pin no. 1. But at 8:27 it looks like the stick is all the way to the left on pin no. 6. Is it because the multi charger thing has as wider stick end?
I don't know why, but I had a hell of a time trying to find good information on charging Lipo batteries when I got into this hobby. I charged my 450mah 4s batteries at 2 amps for a long time before I found that it's unsafe to do that. Funny though, those batteries still work great and they're over a year old now. It's simple. 1000mah is 1 amp charge rate. 2000mah is 2 amp charge rate. 450mah is 0.4 or 0.5 amp charge rate. I don't know why so many videos didn't just say that.
When parallel charging different cell count batteries, the current will also flow out of the larger batteries and into the smaller one as you plug them in. So the larger cell batteries will also be sumwhat undercharged.
Excellent video, it should be required viewing for anyone starting out in the hobby. Batteries are the most boring, most expensive, and by far the most dangerous aspect to this hobby. What I do is use one expensive 20 amp charger for the heavy lifting and I have a couple of little B6ACs for things like my goggle and ground station batteries (Yes I'm old school, I still use a ground station lol). That was a good tip that the red wire is always on the inside of the balance plug. Unfortunately those little guides on the balance plugs don't provide much protection against stupidity, which I found out the hard way when I got careless once and put on a balance plug backwards. That's why I still watch videos like this, it's not only a good auditing tool for my own practices, but sometimes I pick up a tip that had escaped me!
Subbed! One thing that took me a while to figure out and understand and I'm sure a lot of Newbies are on the same boat is when you storage charge the volts are 15.17v but the cell is 3.8 mV. What is this mV? Awesome videos btw, I've watched a few. I see your in Canada! Very cool, I just moved to Canada from Boston :).
So I was so excited... watched your videos, Mr. Steeles Video, and a few others learning about Lipos... Several hours later, finnally got to my chargers video, ISDT D1 smart charger... received my parallel charging board, connected the parallel port to charger, And than tried to connect my batteries.... NO WAY.... my connector was too small. The batteries for my GEPRC25 (By the way you had recommended it... SO PUMPED TO TRY IT!!!). It has been on back order for several months, and finally found another location that got some in.... SO I need to order some type of converter... what would it be. battery 450 80c and 650 100c.
Please continue to make more instructional videos Matt. You are by far the most helpful FPV UA-camr I've came across, just wish you had more content! Keep it up man!
Hi Matt! Congrats for your videos! Keep going! Just a question when parallel charging. Does your charger recognise the number of cells in each battery ora you have to set it manually. If the manual setting is required, what number would you select? 4s if you're charging 4s batteries?
I just got here, but saw no one answered this very reasonable question. If your particular charger doesn't do this automatically for you (guess at the "S" based on voltage), and even if it does, you should know that each cell in a pack is the same. They're each "1S" cells, and every 1S cell is 4.2v. So multiply that out and you know the max for each pack. Write yourself (or find on the web) a little table that matches the pack size of the ones you have to the voltage. Put it on the wall or tape it to the back of your charger (don't cover vents!). Then you can either pick the voltage from a menu (my charger has a 👍 icon next to the suggested voltage, confirming my choice) or just go with the "S" number if that's an option, It should be safe. Folk who have been doing this a while, these voltages eventually work their way into your brain apparently and they can just rattle them off :)
As I said the first time I saw you, you bring unheard info about this hobby, im grateful ive found your channel. Do you know anything about the Htrc h4ac duo? I saw it in a drone mesh's video and it seems good for 25€.
Thanks! This was exactly what I needed to learn about parallel charging in a short concise video that’s not overwhelmed with UA-cam ads. I just finished my first build last night, plugged in the smoke stopper and battery and I’m good to go. Honestly I didn’t think it would work lol. Do you have any good videos on learning BetaFlight that you can recommend, Matt?
Super well explained! One question though - the batteries stop charging automatically when full? Or do you have to supervise it and deplug them at 'the right time'?
Great video. Quick question: Can you parallell Storage Charge/Discharge with a parallel board by making sure the V is also within 0.1V per cell. If they are not, do you individually discharge them and then do this
If you're discharging, the differences don't matter as much. Worst case your batteries will all be at max. You'd need at least one to be over max to them to "self balance" when connected to the parallel board to be at or over max. Then the trickle-down-discharge of the battery manager (charger) will drain at a set voltage. The higher the difference the faster the highest charge battery will go down, until they're all about the same (within a few hundreths volts on a good charger) at which point they're balananced and they'll all go down until the target voltage is reached.
I did not understand the part about letting the batteries sit in by themsevels for a few minutes, are they plugged to the charger and doing a balancing task before actual charge or not? for everything you are doing: Good Job!
When you plug the batteries into a parallel charging board, they will act as one big battery and I guess the current just naturally flows between them. It's not that the charger is performing a task. I think it would happen even if the parallel board wasn't connected to a charger
Incredible video man, thank you so much! I broke one of the pins on my balance port so I can't plug it anymore, is it okay to charge a lipo battery without connecting the balance port? Thanks !!
Nah mate, I dont think it is a boring part of the hobby, I think its a neat part of it, all the posibilities combinations and so on, and it gives me anxiety as well xD
Sorry about the camera focus in this one. Not sure what happened there...
Cine-nerds like you notice stuff I would never see in a million years. :)
Out of context question :
Is it important to calibrate your charger ?
Hello my friend i have same this charger and my battery its 450 4s Lipo what is the best setup for it please thx 🙏

Hands down the most easily understood video on this topic for those of us who are easily baffled by jargon. The diagrams help a ton. Bless you
Coming back to this video for like the tenth time. Thanks Matt 👍🏻

Thanks man, I appreciate it!
he is the easiest person to understand : )
He is very clear just like amain hobby
Seriously, I just started and I agree, he is very easy to understand.
You won the internet with the most clear and stupid free parallel charge tutorial. Thank you!
Dude your videos are so good, great voice. I really love them you brought me fpv, you deserve so much more subscribers. Keep it going👌👌❤️
Haha thanks!

As someone who is just starting out with FPV, massive thank you for this video! Just THANK YOU!
think this is the best video explanation on parallel charging , so easy to understand . great stuff!
The best explanation of Li-Po batteries charging I've ever seen. Thumbs up
Dude your approach ro teaching people is amazing. Its like the best teachers are never in the classroom but behind a camera.

As a beginner to this kind of stuff, I found this video extremely helpful. Thanks!
Thank you so much! Great info! New to FPV and this is the area I'm the most nervous.
Man, why didn't I find this before! so well explained. thank you!
Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video. It was very helpful!
Best tutorial ever on charging fpv lipos! Bro thanks!!! 🎉
Best explanation of battery charging, subbed 👍
Thanks for this amazing video. No one explained such detail about charging battery.
Best Video about charging. LOVE IT.
YOU GOT ME TO FPV.
And I love it too.
I really like your videos. It's very easy for a beginner to understand. Can you please make videos on lipo storage options ?

Hi Matt

Brilliant video Matt. Just a quick one best way to un do/ disconnect batteries after parrarel charged?
Well done. Extremely professional presentation.
Thank you VERY much for making these videos!

You only should charge lipo’s with same number of cells! Amps on lipo may vary, Not the cells!

Do you have any good videos on learning BetaFlight that you can recommend, Matt?
How do you check your battery voltage? Do plug into your charger, do you have LiPo battery voltage meter? How do you do it?
Super well explained! One question though - the batteries stop charging automatically when full? Or do you have to supervise it and deplug them at 'the right time'?
They stop automatically when they get to the right voltage
@@paulstone2436 appreciate it!
Awesome explanation Sir👍👍
Thanks dude, this was what i needed.
Thanks !!
No
Nah mate, I dont think it is a boring part of the hobby, I think its a neat part of it, all the posibilities combinations and so on, and it gives me anxiety as well xD
No lie, you’re my favorite UA-camr!
Great video nice straight forward and simple 👍🏻
many thanks for the guide, very easy to follow along.
Straight, clear and to the point. Great video, just got new sub. Thank you.
thank you for educating me about batteries. subbed.
Good video, it reconfirmed what I suspected to be accurate.
